WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

I'm glad that the pups have returning studs in the L.B., Running back and Wide Reciever crops, but lets be honest here, why doesn't coach Maynard ever talk about his O-line? Cal Lu went ahead and allowed their o-line to be interviewed by the the ventura Star. I am sure T.J. Simmers of the L.A.'s Times will make some funny, yet, true comment about how good Oxy's o-line will be good this season (Well maybe not, but i hope he does). Everyone knows that without that central unit on a team, a lot cannot be done.
Yet, i sure do hope that the young pup o-line will not be excluded in the conversations up ahead.

Young BE . . . let me guess . . . you were an O lineman?   ;)

But what about second string secondary and special teams units . . . can't they get some love too?  ;D

And while I know that the "hydrate, hydrate, hydrate" string has been chewed up with good humor, as I recall the end of the practice session (oh so long ago) where it turns out that I'd lost 10 lbs in water weight from the beginning of the morning session to the end (about 2 hours) . . . and we learned about that weight loss that after I passed out at the end of practice . . . HYDRATE is a key term.

Of course, this was in the old days when only wusses had to drink water at any time other than the single water break we were given, and we ate salt pills with our water . . . wow, it was during my years in college that this transition from salt pills to this new stuff called "gatorade" began.

Sh** I'm old.

ah . . . good times.  :D

Haha, of course tooth. I Just have much respect for the o-line groups. For some odd reason, just like former o-line coaches use to tell me and teammates,it always seems like the O.L never get's the attention for the great jobs they do. Heck, even the special teams players usually get some love, but, the big ugly's never do.

the young Poet was a left guard in high school. The uglies did all the work and the skill guys got all the ink. I always thought the smartest guys on the field are the OL...that was until the young Poet switched to def..now all the smart guys play Defense! :)

BE... Oh so true,it all starts at the LOS,it's all about blocking and tackling.

I agree that the offense starts with the OL.  The ink , good or bad, usually goes to the guys who handle the ball, (I hate the term "skill positions" because it infers that the line positions dont need ...skill), because they score the points.

However, any good QB or RB will always give props to his OL in an interview because they know that without them, they would not be able to perform.  and BTW, by doing so, the OL respects the QB or RB for the props.

Except Peyton Manning after losing a playoff game.  ("I'm trying to be a good teammate here. Let's just say we had some problems in protection.'')

Looking forward to another season (our 8th on the air -- oxybroadcast.com) and working with a new SID at Oxy.  Good to see Oxybob back, too.  (Did I just say that?)

Oxybob isn't back. You're the one who's back. He never left. :)

How about "Glad to be back with Oxybob."  (That doesn't sound right, either).  Regardless, our first cackle-cast will be Sept. 29.

Well, I hope Oxy is as competative as they were these past three years.  I enoyed watching them play with Collins at the helm.  However, times change so we'll see how they do this upcoming season with many questions to be answered.  I think for the first time in a couple years, the SCIAC is up for grabs.  It's exciting! Can't wait for Saturdays.

I'll be at the APU vs. USD game this Saturday.  The Cougs always have some good football to exhibit.

The game I most look forward to is the Oxy-Whittier game on November 10. I am very interested to see if Whittier's ability to keep track of the number of downs and timeouts in a football game is any better than their ability to keep track of the number of fouls in a basketball game.

OxyBob

we will play Canadian league rules. 3 downs....regards

That will indeed be a good game.  The Battle of the Shoes is always a fun rivalry to watch.  However, the Poets haven't won in six years.  It'd be interesting to see them win them back and add some more excitement to the rivalry.  Who knows until gameday, but the Poets will play the Tigers at home this year.

As to another Oxy rivalry, perhaps Pomona can finally get the Drum back. It's been just as long.

The SCIAC website  http://www.thesciac.org/landing/index
has the new Whittier mean logo in place.

I was interested in reading about the new CLU SID, Scott Chisholm.  It has got to be a tough job writing about oneself after the job is secure.  Does it still match the resume?  He wrote a lot about the buildings where he works.

Good luck to Scott at CLU and Tracy Maple, the new SID at Oxy.
