Quote from: Keith McMillanRedlands won 24-12 at Whitworth and Whittier won 28-26 at Puget Sound, leaving us to question the NWC's overall strength this year.

My comments were focused directly on this statement from Around the Nation.  I was taking exception to the idea that the only possible solution to Redlands' and Whittier's performances against the NWC is due to the fact that the NWC has gotten weaker and not that the SCIAC is getting stronger as a conference.  But I realize this point it moot until the SCIAC takes on a 10th game and schedules teams like Linfield/Whitworth/Willamette on a regular basis.

Those two games don't speak to the strength of the SCIAC overall as much as those two schools. Both Redlands and Whittier got big bumps off the end of 2006 in our Kickoff 1-238 ranking, so we knew those individual teams would be better. But the bottom four in the SCIAC are not improving.

Much as I do not like to think it, all our 10th game talk has to be academically viable or I like a snowballs chances better.   8)

How is a tenth game not academically viable?  Correct me if I'm wrong , but that first game would be in August and I don't think school has even started.  If it has...it's just started...

D O.C.

Point taken.

There are Sticklers and Fuddy Duddys out there, you know.

Sabretooth Tiger

It's not viable because there is no indication, whatsoever, that you'd get the presidents of the SCIAC member schools to agree to a 10th game.

No indication of an appetite from the presidents.  Don't have a clue about the ADs . . . save for the fact that adding a 10th game would necessarily up the football costs, thus the football budgets, thus impacting title IX issues . . . and on, and on, and on, and on . . .

Not impossible, not not bloody likely.

Football this weekend...

Pomona (1-1) @ Whittier (1-1)
Cal Lutheran (0-2) @ La Verne (0-2)
Redlands (1-1) @ Chapman (1-1)
Oxy (2-0) @ Claremont (1-1)

Whittier played well last week and should take care of business against Pomona. Redlands will avenge last season's loss to Chapman. CLU-ULV is a tough call, since both looked dreadful in their first two games. I'll go with La Verne to get Andrew Ankeny his first win as ULV head coach. Oxy finally gets to play a game against a real opponent, and should get the win against Claremont, though I don't think it'll be another shutout.

Ex-CLU QB Danny Jones has a tough assignment for No. 3 UW-Whitewater at No. 6 UW-La Crosse. I'll take Whitewater in a close one. Finally, No. 23 St. Olaf should have enough to win at home against Gustavus Adolphus.

Eye of da TIGER

Looks like it will be a great weekend for some SCIAC football, hopefully the weather will clear up so we dont have any rain at game time! Im actually looking forward to heading out to Claremont, as it will be my first game there as a spectator. Im anxious to watch Oxy play a little tougher competition this week, and perhaps get a better taste of what the '07 Tigers are capable of. We'll see if the Offense can continue to put up big numbers and if the Defense is truly as stingy as the first two games hinted at. As always, myself and many other recent Oxy Alum will be tailgating before and after the game and we welcome all to join in! Go Pack, Go Pack! I mean Go tigers!

Younger guys on the board should get that!
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Bob, just a question, why comment on the Olaf-Gustavus game?

There's apparent local interest in the Gusties.

Good idea.  Exposure to other West Region schools besides the NWC will enhance our knowledge of d3.  If the SCIAC can get past the NWC one of the MIAC teams may be next.

How can St. Olaf not beat the Gusties with this fight song?

The CLU-ULV game should be nothing if not a good indicator of how far the teams have come given the benefit of two weeks of practice that I'm sure was a lot like a return to camp in some ways for both schools.  In a shocking moment of disagreement with Bob, I'll take the Kingsmen to win their first game of the season against the Leos. ;)

I liked it.  I had to play it about three times to get the full meaning.  It has a Lawrence Welk feel to it. 8)

Cal Lu will beat La verne handily. Cal Lu has scored more points against a very good PLU team (lots of Seniors, great talent, keep your eye on them) and Willamette who is always competitve. La Verne has only scored a mere 7 points in two games against Puget Sound (weak-- Oxy take note) and a very tough Whitworth team. Cal Lu wins. As for SCIAC teams scheduling NWC teams, Redlands, Cal Lu and La verne are doing their part. How about Oxy? Playing some ranked teams before League action should be expected for our SCIAC champions!!!

How about we just worry about this weekends games And forget about scheduling.

Lewis & Clark and Menlo are a combined 0-6 and have been outscored 216-39. How much more rank can you get?

I would like to examine the quote "Where Redlands comes to die."  You forgot the last word in that sentence...It should read "Where Redlands comes to die...of laughter" after we open up a good ol' can of whupass.  O'boy, now thats funny, lol....getting side stitch from laughing so hard... :D
