I started following this board last spring when the news that the Cali QB was going to join the Hawks came out.  After the initial conversation, some supporting his decision and some criticizing it, the majority of posters seemed to make peace with it and wished Jones well for the most part.  That still holds true, IMHO.  While he is stuggling at times to find his way as he gets comfortable with his new team and offense, he and the entire team came through for each other and executed one of the most amazing comeback that it has ever been my pleasure to witness!  Having come through the, "Trial By Fire," that is a UWW/UWLC game, he is a true Warhawk now!  I am sure that he was told about the legendary rivalry from the first day he set foot on campus.  The pressure on him must have been enormous!  A sincere good luck to all the SCIAC teams this season.

I know it is unbecoming and self serving to toot my son's horn, but you must give a proud parent a break. :)  Little Ricky was named defensive player of the week for his performance against Pomona-Pitzer.

Little Ricky would never brag about it, but as parents, Lucy and I will.
FTP - Congrats, 7 tackles by a dlineman is fine stuff.  ;D Keep up the good work.

6 unassited, 5 assited and 3 of the six for loss of yardage..but who's counting  ;D

(CLC not CLU, thank you) - Redbulldog is showing off "original Kingsman" membership card... ;D
Have fun at your reunion!  It should be a great Homecoming Weekend.

FTP-
Props to your son for a good start to his playing days - I hope he continues to enjoy his time at Whittier.  I know that the UR-Oxy game is the biggest game in the SCIAC this weekend, but I am excited about the Whittier-CLU matchup as well.  Right now, the Poets, Kingsmen, and CMS all have the chance to put together solid seasons, and it will be fun to watch them sort that out.  Should be a great game...

BrownEagle-
I have seen Tooth play if the Tigers ever played at CLC/U during his time at Oxy.  I was in my prime years of childhood football fandom and never missed a game.

stealth-
no cheap 'shoting' here, just calling a spade a spade.  BTW - the facilities whining makes him sound even more selfish, given that a new weight room and practice field were built during his three years at CLU.  That's it - I am done talking about DJ.  I expect OxyBob, RFB and D.O.C. to hold me to that promise :)

Well said Wildman. I take it all back. Back to my "juvenile" classes for some etiquette refresher. Love your passion. Hope CLU sees brighter days and if your QB can stay consistent the rest of the league has some serious competition.

Uhhhhhh, did I miss something, or does this  ;D not show a little bit of sarcasm?  Stealth, you really need to relax a little bit and understand it was a JOKE.  I watched DJ play his tail off at CLU and am glad to see him doing well at UWW.  Do I think it was a selfish move, yes.  Do I blame the kid, not at all.  CLU has a whole lot of ground to cover before playing with the top of the D-III world and it is good to see a kid that came from CLU doing well.  I really don't know what else to say right now.  I will not resort to your name calling and juvenile chatter at me and will just let it go becuase many of the other SCIAC posters realized it was a joke.  I said a few things on here earlier this year about the current Kingsman QB and I quickly ate those words after seeing his stats from this past saturday.  That is the ONLY reason DJ's name was even put in my post.  It was a joke and you seriously need to calm down after reading some of these posts.  Seriously man (or woman), we are all here to talk about our favorite SCIAC teams.  Take a deap breath and settle down.

PS- Peace is always with me as I do not get upset at the things people say on here, and yes, that even means some of OxyBob's comments  ;)  <------see, that was a joke.
One other thing, I never wore a helmut, but I did strap on a helmet a few times in my days.
There's only one way to find out if a man is honest...ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook.

DAW - that's as it should be.  Little Ricky lets his work on the field do his talkin'.  Nonetheless, you and Desi have to be proud (and have every right to be so).

thank you..it does look like the conference will be very competitive this season. Not Oxy, Redlands and then everyone else anymore. I think it will be a battle to the end. I'm trying to talk the Redhead into stopping by Oxy after the Poet-CLU game. :)  She is the boss afterall!

Good luck with the convincing, those are two great match-ups on Saturday.  I'm pretty confident I'll be at both.

From the Occidental Website:

QuoteBy the Skin of their Teeth, Tigers Win SCIAC Opener, Extend Win Streak to 29
Claremont, Calif. (October 29, 2007)

Two weeks worth of practices and preparation came down to a 45-yard field goal attempt off the foot of the opposition with 13 seconds on the clock. Although on target, the pigskin sailed just 43 yards afte, putting the ball back in the hands of the Tigers who held on for a 28-27 victory being tipped by senior James Sabo, in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener tonight at Fritz B. Burns Stadium on the campus of CMS.

The teams battled throughout the game as the scoreboard showed two ties and an ultimate final score that separated the teams by a mere point. No one could have written a script for the way the final six minutes panned out, but the Tigers managed to extend their regular season winning streak to 29 games while improving to 3-0 overall, 1-0 in SCIAC play.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps struck first, leaving the Tigers trailing for the first time all season. With 7:44 remaining in the first half Oxy knotted the game at 7-7 as freshman Ryan Nastor ran four yards into the end zone and sophomore Neil Martin finished off the play.

Fifty-four seconds from the half way mark junior quarterback Justin Goltz found an open Rocky Ciasulli in the end zone for the Tigers' second score of the game. Again Martin's PAT kick was good.

The 14-7 lead quickly turned into a tie the Stags drove 55 yards down the field in four plays to add a second score before the teams headed to the locker rooms.

Senior running back Jason Haller ran 14 yards for his first touchdown of the 2007 season. accounted for the only scoring in the third quarter.

Goltz and Caisulli connected again for an 18-yard pass completion in the fourth quarter to cap off a nine-play, 63 yard drive.

What unfolded after that brought Tigers and Stags fans to the edge of their seats.

With 11 minutes remaining in regulation the Stags blocked a Tigers punt attempt, recovering the ball at the Oxy 16 yard line.

During the next ten plays CMS drove down the field into the end zone, cutting their deficit to 28-21. An Oxy fumble put the ball back in the hands of the Stags, who took advantage. CMS quarterback Ryan Larsen threw the ball long and it found the hands of junior wide receiver Andrew Doyle for a 33-yard touchdown.

Occidental senior Daniel Tromello flung himself in font of the PAT attempt, blocking the kick, preserving the one point Oxy edge with under five minutes to play.

Haller spent the next 2:53 carrying the ball  six times for19 yards. The Tigers however failed to convert a fourth and three, turning the ball back over to the Stags with 1:44 to play in regulation.

Two first downs, and two Oxy timeouts later, the game ended when Zach Mallove's 45-yard field goal attempt came up short.

The running duo of Haller and Nastor racked up 85 and 61 yards respectively. Through the air Ciasulli caught five passes for a total of 67 yards. Goltz finished 14-29 with his longest completion a 29-yard pass to Chris Washington. He added two touchdowns and was picked off once.

Defensively Anthony Ostland led all players with seven tackles. Right behind him was Tim Creamer who contributed 6.5 total tackles. Both players had six solo tackles and a sack for a loss of eight and seven yards respectively. Ostland finished with 2.0 tackles for a loss of ten yards while Creamer had 3.5 for 14. JD Ciasulli intercepted Larsen and returned the ball 24 yards and Jarred Salha picked off the CMS quarterback, running back 21 yards. Ciasulli also broke up three plays for the Tigers.

According to Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette the Tigers are currently ranked # 16 in Division III.

Occidental will play their first home game of 2007 on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they host SCIAC foe Redlands (3-0; 0-0 SCIAC) at D.W. Patterson Field. Redlands is currently # 35 in the Top-40 poll. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
