Great job by the tigers.

Thanks Cal Cat for that much needed update. Any insights or reports about the game??????

Pomona played Oxy tough and led 15 to 9 at half.  Oxy just wore down Pomona's hardy but over matched defense.

Wow, i wonder if the boys came in over looking the hens. That update just seems uncharacteristic of Oxy style during the 1st and 2nd quarters. Maybe, Pomona did a great job in not cutting the grass on their field and painting each endzone with special extra strength smelly cheap paint that caused the tigers to slow down. Pomona usually does this just to get the advantage by the way.

My guess would be to quote GHC Oxy probably thought they would just "phone it in".  Pomona came to play and Oxy made some good adjustments at half and keep Pomona's defence on the field just to long and wore them out.  I am off now to go see APU and Whitworth.

I know I will catch a whole lot of crap for this but maybe the OXy and the SCIAC in general is just not that good.  Anyone ever thought of that?  Will anyone admit to that?

In my opinion the top tier of the SCIAC (Oxy, Redlands, Cal Lu) is traditionally very good. The SCIAC is like most of the conferences nationwide. Some have a few good and bad teams. There are also some conferences that have one traditonal dominant power and then not much else such as the MIAC. Playoffs is where it counts and that is where conferences are judged so as of right now the SCIAC is lacking in success. The SCIAC has also got some very difficult first round draws outside of 2004 when Oxy won two games. Here is a snapshot of the SCIAC in past playoffs.

2006: Whitworth 27, Oxy 23 (Whitworth NCW Champ)
2005: Linfield 63, Oxy 21 (Please don't go here, all first round opponents would have met this fate)
2004: Oxy 28, Willamette 24 (Willamette NWC runner-up)
          Oxy 42, Concordia-Moorhead 40 (Concordia-MIAC Champ)
Linfield 56, Oxy 27 (Linfield National Champions/NWC Champ)
2003: Linfield 31, Redlands 23 (Linfield NWC Champ)
2002: St. Johns 31, Redlands 24 (St. Johns MIAC Champ)
1994: St. Johns 51, La Verne 12  (St. Johns MIAC Champ)
1992: UW-Lacrosse 47, Redlands 26 (UW-Lacrosse National Champions/WIAC Champ)
1990: Central 20, Redlands 13 (Central IIAC Champ)

In all cases except 2004, the SCIAC champion has had to play on the road usually at the #1 seed. Only once has the SCIAC champ had a home playoff game and that was in 2004 and you could see the results. Overall, the succes is lacking but history shows that the SCIAC is no pushover and that it is a very competitive conference.

I have seen Linfield,Whitworth,Oxy,Redlands, CMS,and Pomona and RFB is right the SCIAC top teams can play with NWC top teams.  If Linfield brings their A game they win but that can be a big "if".  Linfield/Whitworth should be a lot of fun.

Maybe that was a little harsh but playoff history has not been kind to the SCIAC.  Maybe this could be the year???

As always, Nice picture Cawcdad.

Wooooo Nelly, In the years that I've played football, i have to honestly say that I have never seen a guy go airborne like that due to one of the blocks that we mentioned before. (Usually, the guy goes straight down)
If this was the result of such a block, i must admit that i am glad that we now have evidence that such block can do this to an opposing player. ;D

Thanks for the compliment Browneagle. I didn't even notice it when it happened. I got home and was going through my pics and Holy Cow!

Eye of da TIGER

haha thats pretty funny. DIII football also got a mention on Sportscenter last night when Stuart Scott said that the New England Patriots are kicking so much arse and playing so well that they are making teams in the NFL look like they were DIII teams! Oouch!
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Go Oxy

Haven't posted in a while but have enjoyed reading the comments this season.

I see our persistent comments on non conference schedules have arisen again like the phoenix.  Thanks to RFB for the recent rundown on the postseason for the SCIAC teams.

It appears that since SCIAC champion gets the auto bid this topic is getting a little stale except if you are playing for second place in the conference.  You win the conference you go to the playoffs.  The only question would then be the home away issue since the money/travel issue makes it almost certain the SCIAC champ will either host an NWC team or travel to the NWC.  Given that it seems the strength of schedule question is not that big of an issue for the SCIAC champ.

The real topic concerning non conference schedule seems only to exist to ensure a continuing topic of discussion for the board (which isn't a bad thing when posting gets slow!).  Of course, I might change my tune if Oxy loses to Cal Lu!

Go Tigers!

For those of you who missed the Whittier - ULV game, it was a good one. Real heartbreaker for the Leopard faithful...

Poets took it by a score of 31-28

ULV's Taylor Hart missed a 59 yard field goal wide left by a few feet (Yes it had the distance...) as time expired. La Verne really had two chances to score in the closing minutes but couldn't capitilize...  They had a hook and ladder play that was key, but was hurt by an illegal motion penalty on the following play...

I wasn't too impresed with with what I saw from the Leopards, but they hung in and fought... I think they should get Chris Handy the ball more.

I was suprised to see coach Ankeny's style to be so calm and uninvolved. It seams like he really lets his cordinators make the calls. Very different style from what we are used to at La Verne.

At 0-6, looks like we may be on the road to the perfect season, much like the Rams and Dolphins...

Maybe something miraculous will happen... we'll see... ::)
Hail to the Orange, Hail to the Green,
Hail to the Leos, FIGHT ULV!!!
