I wish all the SCIAC teams well this week in practice and games, with all the FIRES in the southland, air quality will not be good.Hopefully the winds will calm down and things will get back to normal as soon as possible.

Re air quality:  I wouldn't let them go outside today, the smoke smell is thick here in Pasadena, and we're not right on top of the fires . . . my son's school is keeping them indoors . . . man it's bad out there.

yeah the air quality is horrendous today, but as an indication of how things change..

in '93, my freshman year at Oxy, Coach Widolff had us in pads for 17 straight days of camp before school started, as well as four days a week during the season. When Malibu went up in flames early September that year, and the haze in Eagle Rock was so bad you couldn't see the sun and ash was raining for three straight days, we did catch a break...practice was only one hour for those three days!!!

suffice to say, Oxy doesn't hit during the week like they used to, and I hope ALL afected area schools take it inside for walk-throughs and game planning today!

I just talked to my son,Redlands Football Smoke Contingency, practice is inside until further notice, glad to hear it,he said its bad out there.Told him to stay inside as much as possible.

Don't get me started about back in the 70's when the air was so brown that you could cut it with a knife, we had to wear rebreathers, take salt pills, and practice barefoot before studying by the light of the fire . . . we'd kill for a simple whale oil lamp . . . .

go ahead BE and Oz . . . I'm waitin' on you whippersnappers . . . .  8)

Way back in 2003, when we were supposed to travel to play Claremont, we found out that our game was actually cancelled and rescheduled due to fires as we were about to start loading up the buses. Coach W was nice enough to give us the rest of the day off and we even practiced in the gym for a few days in that week due to poor air quality. Haha, sounds like Coach W is just a lil easier on the players since the turn of the century  ;)
4 is the smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1 and 2. 4 is the smallest squared prime. 4 is the only number in the English language for which the number of letters in its name is equal to the number itself. 4 is also the number of titles in a row the tigers will have in '07!! Of course i would have expected Tooth to bring up his old memories about how in the 1870's (oops i meant 1770's) when both the Oxy fb team and the entire student body had to encounter problems with fires, they all had to temporarly live like if they were in the stone age just to be safe from all the smoke.

Glad that everyone is taking consideration of this horrfic news. Best of luck to everyone and that everyone is safe. (even if it means not practicing under all this smoke or being outside to long. btw, Pasadena police kicked out every person exercising around the rosebowl early in the morning and all day due to all of this smoke....

We've been thinking of you guys down there. That is just a horrible situation.

I heard on the news that the the firefighters told some people to evacuate earlier and the people refused. Now the firefighters are having to go in to rescue those same people, when they could be fighting the fires instead.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm not affected thank goodness but it's a mess down here. Thousands of people have lost eveything, it's really tragic. I don't forsee SCIAC games taking place this weekend. It's probably best as the game of football should be an afterthought right now.

I know Oxy gets the backhand for such a limp out of conference schedule as of late, but in the early 90's when I played, we were regularly playing Azusa Pacific every season until the end of the decade. We also regularly played Trinity (TX) in the early 90's.

Obviously, scheduling some NWC, or even another SCAC opponent will do well for our Strength of Schedule, but don't play it out like we never ever played tough, non-conference opponents.

Oxy has played Trinity seven times.

Year     Oxy    Trinity      Trinity's record

1982    8          16             4-3
1983     31        28            5-3
1984     7          0              3-6

1990      22       10             1-9
1991      17       16             1-9
1992      39         0             2-8
1993      17        13             6-4

1994  No Game                10-1  (Oxy declined for a few years)

Not much has changed.  ::)

The current fires have not caused my family a problem however, the last time was difficult.  We were forced to evacuate twice in 3 days.  I pray for all those who have lost their homes.

You never really appreciate the situation fully until you live through it yourself.

I hope all the SCIAC  teams play this weekend, any distraction from the devistation is welcomed.

, I'll be able to pull out a victory" (talking about the up-coming ass kicking they are about to get from OXY).
wild thing-while I admire your enthusiam and gusto for mighty Oxy, after very average performances against Claremont, Pomona and yes even Redlands (only 7 points diff for the win), an automatic "ass kicking" would seem to be a bit presumptious on Oxy's part against Cal Lu or anybody else for that matter.

Now Oxy deserves to be #1 in SCIAC right now, but it isn't because of dominance.  Oxy is very good.  Probably not the team of the last couple of years. So lets not over exaggerate things.

That being said, if Oxy wins out, represents SCIAC, you bet I want them to be dominate in the playoffs and I would be proud to use your quote then and root for them all the way.

Question...Whats everyone hearing as far as games being played this weekend at this point in the SCIAC?
