Haskell won't be counted by the committee.

Not directly, but indirectly the Haskell game does affect Redlands.  One of the primary criteria for at-large Pool C bids is "Win-loss percentage against regional opponents." If Oxy and Redlands both win this coming Saturday, their season records will both be 8-1, but Oxy's regional record will be 8-1, while Redlands will be 7-1, so Oxy will have a better W-L % against regional opponents as one of the yardsticks to be considered. Plus, Oxy beat Redlands, and one of the other primary criteria is "In-region head-to-head competition."

You keep forgetting to mention Redlands win over Whitworth. They are going to be the NWC Champs. I would think that is more worthy than a win over Chapman by Oxy. Oh yeah, Redlands also beat Chapman in a 12-0 shutout on the road.

There you go again factoring in scores, which is not a criterion for at-large bids. Redlands played Chapman and beat them, and so did Oxy. That's the only comparison that counts. Stuff like running up the score on Whittier the other day counts for squat except in the minds of Redlands fans, who feed off that kind of sportsmanship:

Bob,

I know the criteria for getting in the playoffs. I based my comments on the human element in making decisions. In my opinion I feel those with the power to push a team into the playoffs could possibly be swayed by the non-factor criteria that I mentioned. Either way good luck to both Oxy and Whittier this weekend.

RFB...I don't about point differential and the sort but I agree with your general opinion on the human element.  You just have to be careful stating that on here because I've been told in no uncertain terms that the committee does not factor anything that isn't in the criteria...nothing...they are not permitted to allow any human emotion enter into the equation, so they don't.

I think that the rankings come out on Wednesdays.

From the Oxy website:

Tigers Provide Homecoming Crowd with Exciting Overtime Win

Los Angeles, Calif. (November 3, 2007)

Regulation wasn't quite enough time for the Tigers and the Panthers today on D.W. Patterson Field. Occidental gave alumni an exciting finish to the 2007 Homecoming game after rallying back from 7-0 and 14-7 deficits to send the game into overtime.

It was worth the wait for the 2,200 fans in the stadium as the Tigers walked away with a 21-14 victory.

Occidental won the toss, obtaining possession of the ball first. After an Oxy penalty and quarterback Justin Goltz being sacked, Goltz recovered to complete passes of 25 yards and 10 yards to senior wide receiver Rocky Ciasulli for a touchdown. Neil Martin came in to finish off the play and give the Tigers their first lead of the game at 21-14.

In overtime, Chapman's junior quarterback Eric Marty completed a pair of passes for a total of 18 yards to start the drive, but was unable to convert on second, third and fourth downs with just five yards to go.

The Panthers got on the board in the first quarter after driving 66 yards down the field on 12 plays. The possession ended with a two-yard run by senior Ian Galanis, marking the only score of the opening frame.

On the first drive of the second quarter Occidental quickly reciprocated with a score of their own. Jason Haller picked up 14 yards on the ground and Goltz completed two passes to Ciasulli, including a nine-yard TD completion.

Following a 7-7 halftime score and a scoreless third quarter the Panthers again took the lead in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers opened with the ball, but a 77-yard Tiger drive ended with a turnover on a fumble at the Chapman three-yard line. Chapman ran two short rushing plays before Marty completed a pass to Harrison Dull that turned into a long play as he ran 94 yards down the gridiron into the end zone.

The ensuing drive by the Tigers finished in the end zone when Goltz again found Ciasulli, who tumbled past the goal line, running  21 yards after the play began. Senior Bo Renaud rushed for five yards on the drive and Chris Washington caught a 13-yard pass for a first down to set up the TD pass.

Chapman had a chance to close the door as they regained possession with 4:46 remaining in regulation. After gaining two first downs Marty was sacked by Alex Ochoa, pushing the Panthers back from midfield to their own 39-yard line. Two plays later Occidental defensive back Daniel Tromello intercepted Marty for the second time on the day, ultimately ceasing any chance of Chapman scoring to end the game, with under a minute to play.

Goltz completed 12 of 30 passes for 146 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Oxy had two players total 100 yards or more as Haller rushed for 152 and Ciasulli grabbed eight passes for an even 100. Washington finished the game with 53 all-purpose yards, including 22 on punt returns and 18 on kick returns.

Defensively, Jarred Salha was all over the field, leading all players with 9.5 tackles including nine solo stops with one of his tackles for a loss of seven yards. Senior James Leonard forced a fumble and finished the game with six solo tackles, 7.5 total. Patrick Sarkissian and Tromello had 7.0 and 6.6 tackles respectively. Sarkissian was also credited with 1.5 sacks, while Brian Crider and Alex Ochoa each recorded 1.0. Tim Creamer and James Sabo combined for a sack that pushed the Panthers back two yards. Victor Lopez joined Sarkissian for a sack as well. Tromello broke up three plays to go along with a pair of interceptions that he returned for 13 yards. Salha and Leonard also broke up two plays apiece.

Alex Groh punted the ball five times for an average of 46.6 yards per attempt, with two landing inside the 20-yard line and his longest of the day sailing 50 yards. Joey Coverson averaged 64.0 yards on three kickoffs.

Occidental totaled 320 yards with 174 coming on the ground. The team gained 16 first downs and were 1-1 on fourth-down conversions.

The Tigers improve to 7-1, 4-1 SCIAC while the Panthers fall to 5-3 overall.

Today was the last time 16 senior Tiger players would wear black and orange on Patterson Field. Prior to the game Matt Andersen (injured in the second game of the season), Coverson, Mike Covino, Ciasulli, Crider, Garrett Hostetler, Christopher Kyles, Leonard, Lopez, John Morris, Anthony Ostland, Renaud, Sabo, Cesar Serrano, Danny Southwick and Elen Thompson were recognized and thanked for their contributions for the Tiger football program throughout the last four years.

Next Saturday evening the Tigers will travel to Whittier College to face the Poets in the final SCIAC game of the 2007 season. The "Battle of the Shoes" will begin at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.

Scheduling national ranked teams for non-conference games has been Coach Maynards mantra for the past 5 years at least.
???     ???     :D     ???     ???     :D     ???     ???     :D     ???     ???
D.O.C.-  I'm glad you enjoyed my "mantra" comment. I was just trying to relate to you "sixties' guys". The seventies were just not as pure. I had my tie dye shirt on and everything.

My mantra, "Redlands is the best team, they should go, Redlands is the best team, they should go".

All season long I thought that the Pup nation mantra was "make sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate..... Hahaha (just kidding by the way)

Alright ladies and gentelmen,
here's some info about the little game (just kidding) that will be taking place in T.O. on saturday and what the outsiders believe will be a good game.

From ATW:
It's Show Me Saturday in the West Region as six teams battle to show why they should be in the post season. Three teams will go for sure -- a couple others with have to wait on the selection committee.

From Thousand Oaks, Calif., to Waverly, Iowa, and Arden Hills, Minn., in between, three games are for all the marbles in determining the conference championship.
Far out west, Cal Lutheran and Redlands will determine the SCIAC crown. Upstart Cal Lutheran hosts this match up and will aim for the undefeated conference record. Redlands is riding high averaging 51.5 points per game in their last four conference wins. Cal Lutheran is averaging 42 points per game through five wins so this game could likely be a shootout. Redlands quarterback Dan Selway has thrown for more than 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns while Cal Lutheran has used a committee of quarterbacks due to injury to throw for more than 2,000 yards and 19 touchdowns. Both teams are complemented with solid rushing attacks with several running backs.

"Redlands is playing awfully good right now," said Occidental coach Dale Widolff whose Tigers beat Redlands early in the season and lost to Cal Lutheran. "This game should come down to Cal Lutheran's ability to play pass defense."

Three games, three coaches' opinions and three championships at stake -- that's what Show Me Saturday is all about.

Btw, great to see that Oxy punter Alex Ghor got props for his work this past saturday:
Occidental's Alex Groh punted the ball five times for an average of 46.6 yards per attempt, with two landing inside the 20-yard line and his longest of the day sailing 50 yards.

There you have it. Please enlighten us on what will be occuring this week people. Regional record, SOS, or something beside this silence. I am sure the underclass (young tigers) are learning a lot about the history of Oxy vs. Whitter and what's at stake.  ;D

I'm impressed the reportrix even got that much correct.... but sadly, it is not a championship game.

Nice try, gold star.... how is your self esteem? Want a cookie? It's ok.... we still love you. GROUP HUG!

If Redlands wants to schedule top 25 teams.... they might want to think about approaching Mount.

I would LOVE to see UR posters on that one. A team that wipes the floor with ONU and Capital.....

Pretty please, make my dreams come true. I'd fly down for that one.

(Would also accept UMHB, St. Johns, UWW, Capital, ONU, etc.)

In the words of all youth nowadays: OMG WTF is this reporter doing. Can someone please inform this reporter that logging onto a computer from a cubical, finding wrong info and misinforming the public is not how you doing reporting?
Didn't the New York Team's reporters' scandal on misinforming the public and reporting make believe information not teach all reporters across this country that things like this shouldn't occur?

Our favorite reportrix from the Redlands Daily Facts was up to her usual low standards:

I sure hope she beats the traffic so she can be there by game time at 7:00 p.m. Someone at CLU make sure the nonexistent lights are on at Mt. Clef Stadium.

Redlands is 1-0 against Top 25 competition this year. When was the last time CMS beat a Top 25 team? When was the last time CMS won a SCIAC title? You fired the first volley, I'm just returning it.
