adcac....If it is accurate that if UR wins they get the pool c bid then, the only way I could see Oxy getting the bid is if CLU beats UR and, Oxy wins and then gets a pool c bid.  Even if that hppens, I dont think Oxy is a shoe in for the pool c. I think.......

All true . . . and here's an interesting question . . . what would Oxy fans rather see:

A.  Oxy win, Cal Lu win.  Cal Lu takes the SCIAC outright and Oxy gets a Pool C shot; or
B.  Oxy win, Redlands win.  Oxy gets share of SCIAC title and gives up the Pool C shot to Redlands.

I have to say . . . speaking personally only . . . given a choice between the championship and the playoffs, I'd be inclined to take the championship this year.

Discuss.
I prefer true/false tests rather than filling up a blue book, but I think a fourpeat should satisfy Oxy fans this year.  I don't think they are quite as strong and dominant as in prior years.  Assuming they have a lot of players returning they can prepare to "leave no doubt" next year.  (I know Linfield guys, that is YOUR slogan, but it applies here.)

I would take A.

Cal lu wins, Oxy wins and  Redlands sits.

and C   Oxy goes in pool C

and D  Cal lu faces Oxy later in the playoffs.       Maybe first round.

Either way what a great opportunity for all three teams.

Go kingsmen!!!

I think that's what I was trying to do as well tooth, as i tried to get more attention on "the battle for the shoes" then getting a nod and invitation to the dance. But, i think they would rather listen to the Old guy instead of the young buck.

That's just because I'm so much better looking.

You are indeed better looking than a pair of old shoes.

Is "Leave No Doubt" Linfield's equivalent of "Mission Accomplished"?

OxyBob

I'm trying to think of some witty banter to express how My Poets will reclaim the shoes, but nothing is coming to me. ;D

Hahaha. Good one bob.

FTP, i hope that both you and your son learn about "the Shoes" through out his undergrad days. Believe me, it sure is fun to learn the history of this game when the tigers always get ready for the Poets. I am sure Tooth and Bob can attest to that.

Btw, it sure did suck in 2001 when my teammates and I learned that there was no way or shot of getting into the dance. That's like being the fat kid who loves cake and is never picked by the hot girl to go to the dance. (i am just kidding around here, i need a beer, i am done with work and just throwing crap out. Happy friday and enjoy happy hour   ;D

I can't imagine you'd rather tie for a conference championship than have a chance to play for so much more.  Do you think the 2000 St. John's team would tell you they'd rather have been conference champs than come three points away from beating mount union for the national title...Or 2004 Mary Hardin-Baylor, who didn't win the conference but beat Mount Union and then came an eyelash away from upsetting Linfield for the National title...I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree here...Don't get me wrong, 8 up and 1 down is a great year, I just don't buy the "we're happy with that and nothing more" camp... :)

redlandsfan

I believe that once the Redlands team of 2002 went to St. Johns and nearly pulled off the upset it put the SCIAC on the map.  The Oxy team of 2001 should have gone to the playoffs, but the SCIAC had done nothing for many years before the dogs went to Minn.....Oxy assisted in winning a playoff game, and now another step would be for two SCIAC teams to get selected.  I predict that in 3-5 years the SCIAC and NWC will be very evenly matched.

Good luck to all SCIAC teams this week. I'll be at the ORT (See ya there carlorossilep) to see the Leos try to upset the Chapman Panthers...

Any before any whining starts about not making the playoffs from CLU/UR/OXY...

Just remember that ULV went 9-0 in 95 and got no invite >:(
It even prompted a column by Bill Plaske.
Hail to the Orange, Hail to the Green,
Hail to the Leos, FIGHT ULV!!!

I hear that brother!  But I remember also hearing that they didn't get that invite because of some indiscretions in a hotel the last time they were invited to the playoffs :-\

You know I'll be there tomorrow with a jug of my namesake.
Hail to the Orange!!!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but remember that BEFORE we can be grateful for a FOURPEAT . . . Oxy has to beat Whittier and Cal Lu has to fall to Redlands.

Just sayin . . . it ain't over 'til it's over. ;)

I've said it before, Oxy and Redlands will both win. OXY in a monkey stomp and Redlands by 10.

QuoteA lot of football has yet to be played.

Truth. One can assume no team is sitting around reminiscing about good ole two-a-days of last August.

QuoteFor those of you who have not watched or seen Redlands play this year go check them out.

I did! They looked a lot like LINFIELD... playing Whitworth.

(There, OxyBob, I'm back on track.)
