D O.C. and you couldn't figure out a way to get me in?

The 'light a match' post (roundabout, of course) referred to ROY CAMANELLA NIGHT at the L.A. Coliseum in 1959 where the Dodgers and the Yankees stopped, the Coliseum lights were turned off, and 100,000 people lit a match-and then probably a Camel straight.

Gotcha D.O.C.,

Thanks for the brief histroy lesson sir. I once heard Vin Scully talk about this special event during a recent game but never heard anyone's testimony. I bet it was a special sight to see how much people really cared about Mr. Campanella after having such horrific accident.

Scary, OB's been in my neighborhood, literally.
Pete's is not a bad place. How long ago were you up here for the Giants Dodgers? There are some good places on the side streets to grab a bite to eat before or after a game.

I confess, despite being chained to my cube 24/7, I managed to nab some mini packs to both the Giants and A's. Although, I am a fan of neither. I do admit to being a born and raised Red Sox fan. Got up (rather just didn't go to bed) to watch both games in Japan and have tickets for opening day against the A's I'll be that loser with Red Sox tie, cufflinks, sweatervest, jersey, hat and jacket. At least I am not one of those obnoxious members of Red Sox Nation...wait yes I am. :)

On a SoCal baseball note: the Angels need to change the name back. Come on.... LA Angels of whatchamacallit... SO LAME!

You guys aren't nearly as obnoxious as Yankees fans at the Oakland Coliseum. ;D

Great line OB. I will remember that one and use it.

Hey, I got to thank each and everyone of you for adding some insight into So. cal baseball. As we eagerly await for SCIAC football to start  (Note: See tooth and Oxybob for the offical countdown time keepers), i am usually thankful that we have baseball, basketball and soccer around here to keep me sane. Tomorrow should be a great day to be around L.A., as the city offically pays tribute to the late 1950's, sells out the infamous L.A. Coliseum and puts this young buck and others in awe upon seeing such a big crowd for a baseball game.  It should be fun watching the champs crumble.

btw. any word spring practices across all SCIAC schools. I still haven't since the Leo's on the field, but definately in the weight room as of late.

Thanks for the heads up on this subject.  I went and read the article and video on the LA times website. I didn't see many games there, but it was fun to see some of the stars I had been hearing about.  Many seem to have retired shortly after I saw them play there.
