Only 139 days until Dubuque!

Sounds like a bad slogan for a mid-level concert tour or something. :)

Haha, i think thats the time when NCdawg and Gray Fox meet up in Dubuqe for the Hannah Montana concert that rolls in to town.  (Just kidding :P)

did someone say they wanted to talk about Little Ricky??

He was in fact a High school scholar and was accepted to Whittier,Oxy,Redlands,Chapman,Holy Cross and Harvard. (no money from Harvard, so it would have been impossible for us to afford it)

He is doing just fine in his college academics. Needs to improve abit, but he will. Had a little college adjustment period.

did I mention he made all conference in Track? (Shot put)

Little Ricky is the real deal. Football defensive starter as a freshman, and all-SCIAC shot putter as a freshman. No hype, no puffery, and no ballyhoo. Well done, LR.

OxyBob

thanks robert..the check is in the mail. :)

Sweet, CMS is getting another (hopefully) good baseball player.. now any news on football guys? I'm in the dark.

Why is Redlands starting Spring Football so late? It is the end of May? They should be finished by now.. that is unless their academic year goes beyond early/mid May. Odd, very odd.

EastCoastStag

Congrats to LR!

Without spitting back the traditional line about "this is what SCIAC athlete / small liberal arts kids are all about", this is most certainly true - LR is accomplishing a tremendous amount as a young player as well as doing well in the classroom.
Good job to him and to FTP & DAW.

You know... CMC has eliminated loans in some cases.. perhaps he would be interested in going a few miles north... hahaha. I'm just kidding (hope I didn't break a rule there).

Drew Carey has a similar piece on the "Bacon Dog" in LA.

The concern is public health.

EastCoastStag

The hot dog thing I can understand, but the taco trucks, no. If for public health reasons, the taco trucks should be allowed to stay put. That makes more sense for monitoring purposes, for the truck vendors and for consumers. This is public health officials gone wild. Rediculous. Sort of like when I was watching a show about "happy ending" massage parlors in my wonderful (note sarcasm) city of San Francisco, and the city's public health inspector (I forget his title, but he was head of public health for the city/county) was so disgustingly overweight that he could only fit through a door sideways. Obviously he is setting a good example for public health... just like our coke snorting, alcoholic, cheating on his wife mayor does when he does nothing about the incredible numbers of homeless popping a squat wherever they want. I'm not going to get into the issues of homelessness, but when, while everyone is walking to or from work during the morning or evening, a person just stops on a corner to take a leak or crap and a police officer 10 ft away turns a blind eye... obviously we have an issue.
But back to the point - a little support for these taco vendors isn't a bad idea at all.

Dr. SCIAC, Esq.

I'm back with some more information about Cal Lu cheating. I am prepared at this time to confirm that Cal Lutheran has cheated, and they have admitted to cheating at a recent SCIAC AD's meeting.

The admitted to visiting players and coaches on high school campuses, which is illegal under SCIAC rules. Their AD claimed they didn't know the rules. There were a bunch of proposed self-sanctions on their own staff because of the cheating, which were basically all slaps on the wrist. In addition, they lost all but 5 spring practices, instead of the usual 16, which is admittedly more than a slap on the wrist.

Still uncomfirmed is the possibility that Cal Lutheran was trying out playing on campus, which would be a violation of NCAA, not SCIAC rules, and may carry more significant penalties.

Now EastCoastStag, I'm sure this is particularly interesting to you, but CMS has not had (and will not have) a single spring practice this year. I'm not certain why, it's not a sanction for any rules violations or anything like that. They've just decided not to have them this year. Apparently a losing record is good enough.

D O.C.

OK...at SCIAC games taco trucks, corn and mango on a stick, oranges, grapes and anything else someone wants to concoct in their kitchen may be sold with out interference from college, city, state or USDA regulation in effect. All that is required is a small sticker underside a cart or truck disclaiming any liabilty or the customer's  right to sue.

What the f*ck. Christ.
Now looking for a new team to root for.
Workouts are not even mandatory. More poorly run than a freakin' bad HS program.
This is an absolute embarassment.
I just cannot believe this. That is not how you build a program. If the NCAA gives you the opportunity, you use every single practice. Next thing you know, we'll stop filming games. I just cannot take this.

SCIAC needs to change those rules - teams should be able to visit schools and players... um hmm that might be one way to improve overall talent level? Just a thought.

Thanks FTP.
I do root for the Poets (in most cases), but I just can't bail on my dear CMC... as much as it frustrates me to no end to see the program spinning its wheels.

Oxy grads in the news, from the Los Angeles Times...

Save The Los Angeles Taco Trucks!

Quote"Carne Asada Is Not A Crime," proclaims a website that has suddenly caught fire to rally food lovers across Los Angeles in defense of the iconic taco truck, now in the sights of a government crackdown.

After county supervisors passed a law two weeks ago, threatening hefty fines or a year in jail against operators who linger too long in any one place, a pair of former Occidental College roommates took it upon themselves to ignite a protest.

So far, Highland Park residents Aaron Sonderleiter and Chris Rutherford have sent Supervisor Gloria Molina more than 2,200 signatures on a petition to overturn the law, which she backed after brick-and-mortar restaurants in East L.A. complained that taco trucks were eating into their business. Their website has also declared this evening to be "Taco Truck Night," calling on residents to turn out to "support your local hard-working taco vendor."
...

Though taco trucks have long been regulated by the county, the previous law carried only a $60 fine for parking in the same spot longer than 30 minutes. Many vendors who got citations simply treated them as a cost of doing business.

The revised law, to take effect May 15, allows mobile eateries to stay put for an hour. But if they fail to move after that they can be slapped with a criminal misdemeanor and face a fine of up to $1,000 or even six months in jail.

Sonderleiter, 28, said he was offended: "It just struck me as so unfair and so ridiculous and so prohibitive and so devastating to something that I love."

Bringing up the website, www.saveourtacotrucks.org, "was a spur of the moment idea." He tends the site after his day job teaching computer skills to middle and high school students in West Los Angeles.

"We're totally new at this," said Rutherford, 27, who also is a teacher. "I think a lot of this -- we're sort of learning as we go."
...

"What is the endgame in this?" Rutherford asked. "Is it we go on a hunger strike? At what point do we call it a day? I don't know. Steam is still building."

They did this in NYC with the dirt water dog vendors and mystery meat on a stick vendors because the restaurant owners complained.  They are back on most corners though.  Nothing beats a couple of dirt water Sabretts dogs or a good street gyro for lunch while sitting in Madison Square Park checking out the scenery.
