PHEW!
This makes me feel slightly better.
I could not believe that when I heard it. I'm still slightly upset with the pursuit of excellent / lack there of at times.
I know the desire and talent is there among the players to do better... it just needs to be nurtured more. CMC Football was the best 2 years I had and my fellow STAGS remain my best friends, and we all want a winning program.
Hopefully Spring Ball was successful and the groundwork is set for a good season.
I must say, the Whittier game last year was a bit of a surprise. Not necessarily victory, but just the spread.
While there is no such thing as a moral victory, hopefully the players realize that last year's game against Oxy was something more than a fluke. The most important thing is consistency in mindset everyday. In the SCIAC you only get 36 football games... something as a frosh that you don't think much about... but you must be sharp in everyone, even if you start to realize you are off, you must pull through.
(sorry for poor grammar, in the office until 1am)

QuoteNow EastCoastStag, I'm sure this is particularly interesting to you, but CMS has not had (and will not have) a single spring practice this year. I'm not certain why, it's not a sanction for any rules violations or anything like that. They've just decided not to have them this year. Apparently a losing record is good enough.

DR SCIAC....im not sure where you are recieveing your information from, but having personally attended 3 of the Stags spring practices myself, im pretty sure that CMS did conduct spring football...again, maybe you were just misinformed, but that Stags did hold practice...ECS dont jump ship just yet as the Stags return just about everyone...and just a reminder, CMS 50 Whittier 21  :)

I was hoping nobody remembered that. :)  thanks for the reminder.

well what i heard was that CMS' head coach was on sabbatical for the entire spring semester and that there is absolutely zero spring practices involving the coaches....players may be running their own "captain's practices" but those were always allowed and were never regulated...if you are saying that you attended 3 full practices organized and run by the CMS coaches then either you or my source is lying...and I've known my source for the better part of a decade

You did hear correctly that Candaele has been on sabbatical this spring, however he has been back on campus to conduct spring practices....and yes the practices i attended were organized and run by the coaching staff, unless my eyes were lying, and ive known my eyes for quite a few decades... ;D

I should probably keep my mouth shut, but I can't do it.  Does anyone else find it depressing that our discourse has generally degraded to shouts of "LIAR!!!!"?  Why isn't "mistaken" an option?  And why wouldn't "mistaken" be the first option?  Of all the friggin' things to lie about why would anyone pick coaches attending spring training sessions?

I've also seen the word "cheater" thrown around a bit too freely. :'(

I concur with Bob, both my sources (Bob, Tooth, Oswald, BE, and the Oxy website, which has improved dramatically under the SID they stole from Cal Lu  ;)) and my own eyes (although sometimes you have to really fight the glare from the lights at Patterson to be sure what you just saw), confirm that Patterson Field has Field Turf.

Whittier's addition of field turf will be a major improvement, as they have long had one of the more suspect playing surfaces in the conference.  I shudder in fear at the thought of what Scurlock might have been able to accomplish with sure footing.

I don't understand why every team in the SCIAC doesn't go to field turf. Most fields are multi-use and watering costs in CA, esp greater LA have got to be expensive. CMS's problem is the damn track team wanting natural grass.
I would hope in the next several years that everyone goes over to field turf.

Note: Oxy needs to work on those incredibly bright lights...... just blinding....

If cheaters don't like being called cheaters, maybe they should stop cheating

Don't people watch South Park? This isn't cheating! This is the "white people method", we just misinterpreted the rules!
Come on now...most things (outside of pure hard work) edit: could be called cheating by someone. If a player decodes the other teams signals, is he just going to forget about this? Oh hell no son. He's going to watch the sideline and play accordingly. I did this as a player and thousands before me and thousands more will do so each and every year. Cheating in recruiting? If a school happens to give need-based aid to a very good student athlete who has very well-off parents? That could be considered cheating by some.
edit: Skirting and flirting with the rules is ALWAYS going to be out there. Let the authorities, be they conference or NCAA officials deal with it and the punishment.

CLU is trying to set the record for the oldest football facilities in the SCIAC. From time to tome you can see the ghosts of Cowboys gone by walking around muttering what a s*#t hole. :D

There's only one way to find out if a man is honest...ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook.

of course there's going to be questions around the edges of what is and is not cheating, but when there are rules set down and agreed upon by folks, and when someone is caught violating those rules, ultimately admits they violated the rules, and are punished for it...

well that's a pretty open and shut case of cheating...and people who cheat are cheaters. Just because its a "bad word" , doesn't mean it should never be used

SCIAC (Cal Tech) loses to Florida A&M on Jeopardy, they must have dropped their academic standards to compete  :D
