Hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but Oxybob is referring to the Whitman "Fighting" Missionaries.

Linfield was originally a Baptist school...I think PLU is somehow affiliated with the Lutheran Church.... ;), I'm assuming Lewis and Clark is Rastafarian, uhm.....UPS---what can brown do for you?.....Menlo and Willamette....I dunno......

UPS is/was Methodist.

True enough, Steve.  I definitely needed a road map for this one.

Not only am I bad at reading Bob's mind, I can't even follow a basic hint or do simple research.

I must need to go hydrate... :D

QuoteLewis & Clark's last win over a SCIAC team was against Claremont in 2004. The Pioneers then lost 27 straight before defeating Principia on September 6 in this season's opener.

By the by...the Whitman vs. Lewis and Clark games were always hellacious to watch.

Update. MoMo's is a zoo before game time. Getting a refreshment is a tad like slam dancing at a Metallica concert. Gordon Birsch brewery is about a mile up the road towards the Bay Bridge on your left. The original garlic fries are made there. Much better than at the ball park and the beer, out of this world. Right out of the kegs.  Try the sampler. If your looking for some pre game Stanford Jr vs. Oxy game fun there is a Chevy's right across the street that makes a mean melon margarita. Have fun and be safe.

Thanks for the insight ECS and FTP. I'll keep you updated FTP if I do make the game. That way, we can start going over what will happen the day My Tigers reclaim the Shoes and what your players must do at mid-field to present back the shoes. By the way, did i mention that the players parents from Whitter have to grill burgers for all oxy alum after the game.  :P

I always forget about Gordon Birsch. There is a mexican place about 2 blocks away from ATT, on townsend I think. Good food, not sure about the drinks. There are a few REAL dives as well as you head up 3rd and 4th towards the 80 and Moscone.

Look forward to the SCIAC company at Menlo.

You guys are right, Momo's is a Zoo before and after the game. Especially one that will be crawling with Giants fans crying about what a horrible post-Bonds season they had.  Please do keep the insights coming as I do plan on hanging around that side of the city after a long day at sporting events.

By the way, after Oxy takes care of business against the Oaks this weekend at the Rock, I am sure the Oaks will be on a downward spiral against any other SCIAC teams that they will play for non-conference games.

My favorite is the Earlham College "Fighting" Quakers.  That is truly a non-sequitor.

Well there are some establishments up near Columbus Ave that might keep you entertained..... Of course you better bring lots of $1s....

But near Moscone there is The Thirsty Bear (I think that is the name) - it is a tapas bar w/ really good beer. As for Columbus Ave, there are plenty of little restaurants on it which are very good, in addition to the few establishments of "entertainment". Bubble Lounge is also near there. I've heard good things about it as a jazz lounge / bar / club. As for restaurants alone, my personal suggestion is Belden Place. It is an alley just off of Pine across from 555 California that is fantastic for food. It is all these little restaurants - French, Italian, Modern America.. etc. Tadich is on California. Supposedly one of the oldest restaurants in the city. Good food. Not sure how late it is open on the weekends. The mexican place I was referring to is Tres Agaves (spelling). There is also Jack Falstaff's, but that is just a weeee bit on the pricy side.

If you're looking for more bar-esque joints: Bourbon & Branch is a good old-style speakeasy (it is pretty far up in the 'Loin...). Slide is more of a club, but also a speakeasy (great for getting cougars). Le Colonial (check spelling) is pretty decent, but like Slide becomes more of a club atmosphere (and again, cougars). Harlot is good as well...but as with the others becomes more of a nightclub.

As a UCLA fan I'm terrified now!  Though I'm still not sure about "Fear the Poet"...oh well.....

As a UCLA fan, I'm terrified of USC.

BTW, I'm in Cleveland.  You should hear the  sports talk OSU callers.

There is huge damage from hurricane Ike in the Ohio area. A million people without power. All the utility trucks had gone to Texas and had to drive back.

From what I've seen everyone should be afraid of USC this year.

People should be scared of USC... however, in recent history they have sh*t the bed in at least one game. Like with EVERY team, they are subject to the struggle to maintain focus week in and week out.

GF..my 11 year old ( LR's younger brother )and I went to Pittsburgh to see the opening game against The Texans last week. As we were flying towards the Burgh, the curious young wilcox asked me, "where does all the stuff go from the plane's bathroom when it's flushed?"

Knowing that I needed to think quickly, I replied, "They wait till they get over Cleveland and then dump it."

Very true....though I must say in the recent past I have not been nearly as impressed with USC's teams as I am this year.  I am never suprised when they lose to UCLA but this year I think even on a bad day they should handle the Pac-10 teams.  And their schedule is a cake-walk.  They have all of the "tougher" oponents at home and have notre dame at home as well.....will be very surprised if they don't run the table this year (barring signficant injuries anyway).

Glad to see you separated Notre Dame from the "tougher" opponents.  A very mediocre Michigan team solidly outplayed them, had it not been for SIX TOs (5 of which I would say were unforced).
