OxyBob, gotta love this spelling out of the SCIAC:

Offensive Player of the Year: Justin Goltz, Seinor, Occidental College
Defensive Player of the Year: Jacob Calderon, Seinor, California Lutheran University

Way to find the typo, Einstein.

Was that a senior moment OB?   ;D ;D

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Seems the first (possibly only?) coaching shoe might have dropped at Whittier. Scape goat? Possibly.

The new OC  is Coach O' Boyle?

As inconsistent as the O was this year, the D was just as inconsistent.  IMO a combo of not enough talent and some questionable play calling.

I hope everyone lands on their feet.........

Depending on which local edition you read, here's a couple of items from the "Campus Life 5.0" column in the San Bernardino Sun:

Quote
The University of Redlands had 15 players earn All-SCIAC recognition in football.

That contingent is led by five first-team selections: senior running back Zack Schafer, senior defensive lineman Brock Arndt and Gavril Gabriel, junior linebacker Eddie Stamm and sophomore defensive back Mike Nicolini.

The second team included senior running back Tom Romaine, senior tight end Nick Schroeder, junior receiver Brendan Barkate, senior lineman Jared Schwass, junior lineman Travis McBride and sophomore kicker Joe MacMillan.

The second-team defense featured senior defensive lineman Tyler Sutton, freshman linebacker Ian Sluss, senior defensive back Conor Drake and freshman punter Wes Norris.

Among the other selections was junior linebacker Brandon Boehm of Whittier, a product of Serrano High School.

Offensive player of the year honors went to Occidental quarterback Justin Goltz. Cal Lutheran lineman Jacob Calderon took defensive honors for the second straight season.

QuoteSCIAC football honors have been doled out and Pomona-Pitzer fared best of the locals with six selections.

The Sagehens are represented on the first team by sophomore quarterback Jacob Caron and senior wide receiver Kevin Kelley. The second team includes freshman defensive lineman Steve Collison (Los Osos HS), senior defensive back Tyler Barbour, sophomore receiver R.J. Maki and junior offensive lineman Augie Lagermann.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps had four players tabbed, led by sophomore offensive lineman Matt Pautler, senior linebacker Ashton Clarke and junior defensive back Brock Olson who are on the first team. The second team included junior receiver Mike Hirokawa.

Clarke was also named winner of the John Zinda Award for character and leadership.

La Verne had senior linebacker Jason Carpenter and senior offensive lineman Kenny Andrew on first team and sophomore defensive back Taylor Hart (Alta Loma HS) on second team.

Among the other selections were Redlands senior defensive lineman Tylor Sutton, son of CMS athletic director Mike Sutton, was chosen to the second team and was one of 15 Bulldogs named.

Coach O' Boyle has been at Whittier for a couple of years...He came to Whittier right after he was let go by Redlands

I know it's a year and half down the road but I can shut up now about the SCIAC ducking Linfield.  Starting 2010 the 'Cats will be playing Cal Lu and LaVerne.

Of course, Redlands ducked us again.  ;)

He's too, too modest...

From the NWC page today 12 11 2008:

QuoteD O.C., yes 2009 is going to look like 2008 in terms of our schedule but all that will change starting in 2010.

In the most recent "Carney's Corner" the article that Linfield AD Scott Carnahan typically sends out during the year he addresses Linfield's football schedule and developments for 2010-2011.  Carney talks about how they've contacted the SCIAC over and over again with no takers but we finally have two starting in 2010.

"Since the fall began, both Joseph Smith and I have called every Division III football playing institution in the SCIAC. We have finally been able to make some headway and have scheduled California Lutheran and La Verne for the 2010 and 2011 football seasons. Obviously, this is going to create a big increase in our budget, but we all feel it is in the best interest of our student-athletes and institution to move in this direction."

This is really great news for the 'Cats and it's great to see that we will have at least 8 DIII games starting 2010.  I suspect that SOU will be the non-DIII team we keep playing and if Pacific does come back we can dump the Raiders or go to a 10 game schedule and keep SOU.

Here's the link:  Carney's Corner

Hooray! for Monrovia Cat, CalCat, DO.C. and OxyBob!!!

Gosh darn it, I'm so mad at Redlands for making Linfield lose and miss the playoffs the last three years.

I thought that Linfield was the reigning NWC champ for the last three seasons because from reading posts by Linfield fans you'd sure think they were.
