SF Chronicle Article about the passing of legendary Oxy/Stanford/USA T&F Coach Payton Jordan.  He also coached football at Occidental.

Gig Harbor Cat

Cal Cat,
OK its on, GHC will be heading to So Cal for the Oxy game.  Of course we will need to set up the basic tailgate action.  I will make room in my bag for old blue,  I hear longies help with night vision,  we will just have to wait and see.

Let me know who else is going to trek down

GHC looking forward to the September invasion as I am sure many of the faithfull will make the trek.  With the 7pm start time the tailgate will have plenty of time to take on epic proportions.  I am sure many of us down here are marking  days off the calendar pointing towards the 19th.  Tigers and Cats that early in the season will be a lot fun for both programs  and deserves a lot of attention :)

It's been some time since I popped in to see what the latest and greatest news from the SCIAC is. The Stealths wish the best to you all
TGP,
We had this discussion many moons ago with mixed reveiws. I happen to know Coach Bryan on a personal level, our sons play football together, and have seen the A-11 in action. It's really fun to watch but as with many innovative ideas it probably will get squashed. But there once was a guy named Alonzo Stagg who made some minor contributions to changing the game as we know it today.  ;) The system is not designed to break any rules it is designed to benefit the smaller schools that don't have huge student bodies to pick from, figuratively and literally within the current rules. Will the governing bodies change the rules ? Probably so enjoy it while we can

Item from the Akron Beacon Journal:

QuoteBrowns hire assistant coaches

Browns coach Eric Mangini has hired former NFL running back Gary Brown to handle his old position and ex-Butch Davis assistant Steve Hagen to direct tight ends.
...

Hagen returns to the Browns, where he worked with tight ends (2001-03) and quarterbacks (2004) under Davis. After leaving Cleveland, Hagen spent one season as offensive coordinator at Fresno State, then rejoined Davis at the University of North Carolina for two years as tight ends coach.

Hagen's college experience also includes stops at Cal, San Jose State, Wartburg College (Iowa), UNLV, Nevada, Notre Dame, Northern Arizona, Illinois, Kansas and Kent State, where he directed quarterbacks in 1991. Hagen played wide receiver at Cal Lutheran.

According to Scout.com, "Hagen played at CLU from 1979-83, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in business."

2008 offical home attendance stats. Rough showing for the SCIAC. Redlands and Oxy surprised me.

What surprised me more than the Oxy or Redlands numbers was the fact that Pomona-Pitzer was ranked near the top with an average of more than 3,600 per game.  I was at a couple of Pomona Pitzer games seven or eight years ago, and based on those games I'd be surprised if the Sagehens drew 3,600 for an entire season.  But I looked and found that Pomona has 47,000 for home games against both Whittier and Claremont.  Now that's impressive  ::)  I am sure there are a lot of Asst. ADs for Marketing at D1 schools throughout the country who'd love to find out how the Sagehens drew so many fans for those games.

This may explain it.

I highly doubt those numbers are accurate.
As do I.  I'm not sure exactly how they would estimate this.  I've been to many SCIAC/D3 games and never paid for a ticket.  I know students don't pay at most schools either.  I can understand keeping stats on the D1 level where everyone pays and security is tight, but when it comes down to it campus safety officers at D3 schools aren't exactly worrying about securing the perimeter and getting acurate attendence numbers.

Unless they've got someone sitting across from the stands counting...  ???
Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Pomona attendance numbers have always been a joke and completely made up...sorta like claiming that your kid turned down a bunch of D1 offers to play at Redlands

How in the world can 3, 000 people fit into the Hens limited/cramped high school style bleachers???? Geeze, when I used to inflate the number of attendance for winter basketball games at Oxy, I even knew that i should never try to jot down a ridiciously large amount of people in attendance. What's even  more funny is that they are being nationally recognized as a school that has good attendance  at their football games. Lol
