Well, if you're admission standards stink it can be a huge difference. The WIAC schools can target a bigger pool of potential players due to cost and standards. Redlands and the SCIAC schools have a much more limited selection pool to choose from. In my opinion state schools should not be playing at the DIII level. They do not fit the academic philosophy of DIII athletics.

I only passed along the info from the selection committee.  No one on the SCIAC had gotten to it yet and I was I being proactive.

Baloney. Ever since Whitewater won in 2007 (with a first team all-SCIAC QB) you've been coming in here to gloat and post your nonsense, most of which you copied from someone else, but when you get a little back you're a big whiny baby. You even reposted the phony, trumped-up D-III attendance figures as a knock, which yet again demonstrated your abysmal lack of knowledge about the SCIAC.

As for the WIAC, I have never been even slightly impressed with its D-III athletic prowess, and I never will be, Kramer.

Here's an article about a Redlands recruit, courtesy of the Fallbrook Village News:

QuoteRedlands collegiate career worth trading scholarships for Hanson

Jeremy Hanson could have had a college football scholarship. He turned down the offer of a full scholarship to NCAA Division II university Fort Lewis in favor of academic scholarships and grants which will pay most of his expenses over the next four years at the University of Redlands.

"Redlands is a Tier 1 school academically," Hanson said.

Redlands is an NCAA Division III school and thus does not offer athletic scholarships. Because Division III does not have athletic scholarships, no official letters of intent are signed. Hanson, however, gave a verbal commitment to Redlands to continue his football career. "It's just great and I'm just blessed to be able to play at the next level and get a good education as well," he said.

Hanson had also been considering Whittier, Cal Lutheran, and Puget Sound as well as Fort Lewis and Redlands.
...

When Hanson was on Fallbrook's freshman football team in 2005, he weighed 120 pounds. The 5'9" Hanson has since grown to 165 pounds. "He's overcome things throughout his high school career in terms of not being the biggest player on the field," [Fallbrook head coach Joe] Silvey said.
...

Hanson's organized football career began with four years in Fallbrook Pop Warner, where Mark Welsh became one of many coaches to whom Hanson now expresses his gratitude for his development as a football player. Bill Atkins was instrumental in Hanson's training and conditioning.

Hanson also commended Greg Madden, who was Fallbrook High School's freshman football coach in 2005. Hanson was also on Fallbrook High School's golf team as a freshman, although he did not compete in any matches. Hanson was on the Fallbrook Rugby Club as a sophomore and junior.

Hanson, who was on the junior varsity football team in tenth grade and on the varsity as a junior and senior, is grateful to the entire staffs of varsity head coaches Patrick Schmidt and Silvey while noting that assistant coach Tony Morrow spearheaded the recruiting assistance. "The coaches have been very helpful," Hanson said.

Hanson did not play defense at Fallbrook High School. He spent part of his junior year as a running back as well as a wide receiver. Hanson also participated on the Warrior special teams units.
...

Hanson hopes to have a career as a physical therapist or an athletic trainer. Although Redlands does not have a physical therapy major, Hanson plans to major in biology or kinesiology and hopes to enroll in graduate school after receiving his undergraduate degree from Redlands.

From the Oxy web site:

QuoteFootball Announces Fall Schedule

The 2009 Occidental College football schedule has been released and among the most notable games of the season is a week three match-up between Occidental and Linfield College (Ore.).

On Sept. 5 the season will kick-off against Menlo College in Atherton, Calif. at 1:00 p.m. for the season opener. Oxy will then use a bye week to prepare for the Linfield Wildcats, who were 6-3 with a 5-1 Northwest Conference record last season, at home on Sept. 19 beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Another bye week will allow the Tigers time to prepare for the SCIAC opener which will be at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 3. Oxy will host the University of Redlands Bulldogs, to start a four-week home-stand. Week seven will be the final non-conference game of the year as Chapman University heads into town. The final home game of 2009 will be against Cal Lutheran on Oct. 31 at 7:00 p.m.

Homecoming is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 1:00 p.m. when the University of La Verne visits Patterson Field.

Occidental will close out the regular season with pair of rivalry road games at Pomona-Pitzer (Nov. 7) and at Whittier College (Nov. 14) in the battle for The Drum and The Shoes, respectively.

In 2008 the Tigers claimed their fourth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in five years after completing an undefeated (9-0) regular season and advancing to the First Round of the NCAA Division III Postseason. During the season they climbed as high as 11th Occidental finished ranked No. 15 in the Nation with a 9-1 mark.

The article says the game at Menlo starts at 1:00 p.m., the schedule says it starts at 7:00 p.m., and the Menlo schedule says it starts at noon. Pick a time, any time.

D O.C. posted on the NWC board the news that Colorado College is dropping football. Geez, all I said was that Oxy shouldn't play them every year, not that CC should drop football altogether.

Hopefully, some of the Colorado College players will end up at SCIAC schools.

Last season CC had 7 players from California, 2 from Arizona, 2 from Washington, 6 from Texas, 23 from Colorado, and 9 from elsewhere. CC had no players chosen to first team all-SCAC, 4 to the second team, and 5 got honorable mention. Slim pickins.
