OUCHIE!!  However I believe in an off handed way this was a compliment for the poets!!!!   :D

Oxy has consistently clobbered Whittier, and I have repeatedly pointed out that Whittier is terrible, yet the Poets didn't up and quit like Colorado College did, which is a real tribute to the fighting spirit of Whittier, which endeavors to persevere despite not being any good.

Off-handed? No, that was a carefully prepared remark, though I admit I stole "endeavor to persevere" from The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Also, nice to know that the Bat Phone still works in Sabretooth Tiger's office.

"Word on the street" is that Jim Fenwick who was Oxy's OC for the past 3 years is going to be named head coach at LA Valley College where he coached from '91-'96. Fenwick was a big success at Valley who he led to a conference championship and four bowl games.

Also thanks to the posters who boosted my karma!

Whittier College: Kicker Jellerson has joined the Whittier College staff as defensive coordinator.  Jellerson previously served as defensive backs coach at Western Washington.  We hear Walt Fletcher is moving from offensive line to defensive line.  Also, Chris Anderson will move from defensive line to tight ends / running backs.  Former Whittier College wide receiver Shawn Briggs has been hired as wide receivers coach.  Bill O'Boyle will move from linebackers to offensive coordinator / associate head coach.  Jared Izidoro will move from rovers to linebackers.  Chasen Eddow remains as defensive backs coach.  Whittier is still in the process of hiring a quarterbacks coach.

WOW I GUESS WHEN THE MUSIC STOPPED ANDY AND CHRIS DIDN'T HAVE A SEAT....

Will the new DC also coach the kickers?  They should be outstanding if he does. :)

College applications now an open (Face)book

For a generation of students who share every detail of their personal lives in text messages, MySpace pages and other online postings, the college admissions chase is offering a lesson that some things are best kept private.
...

But, for every member of the Facebook nation, even a successful admissions season poses challenges: Should you post your good fortune on your home page before learning whether your best friend got in? Or check your iPhone for online decisions, with everyone watching? If you put your college wish list online, will you be humiliated if the rejections come thick and fast?

The admissions process this year is particularly fraught. Competition is shaping up to be the toughest in years at the University of California, which, facing budget cutbacks, capped freshman enrollment while fielding a jump in applications, UC admissions director Susan Wilbur said.
...

In December, Amaru Tejeda made a pact with his friend, Yureli Lopez, to post Pomona College's response to their applications on Facebook.

That way, the seniors at Bravo Medical Magnet east of downtown Los Angeles wouldn't have to deal with each other face to face if one lost out.

Amaru, 18, of Lincoln Heights got home and found a large envelope from Pomona but waited until Yureli, 17, of Boyle Heights posted "Future Sagehen" (Pomona College's mascot) in her "status update" window before he sent an instant message that he had gotten in too.

Because they had applied for an early decision, Yureli and Amaru were committed to attending Pomona. But on Friday, Yureli learned she had also been accepted to Occidental College, the dream school of another friend.

As of Sunday, she hadn't heard how her friend had fared and was nervous about being perceived as getting her slot.

"That's the worst-case scenario: When one of your best friends got accepted to the school you really wanted to get into and you didn't," said Yureli.
...

Luckily there's no such anxiety and apprehension for high school students who applied to UW-Whitewater, where a staggering 75% of applicants are admitted. I suppose the 25% who didn't get into Whitewater can always switch to Plan B and enroll here:

QuoteMy Experience Teaching Apathetic Students at a School with Open Admissions

Since 1970 I have taught history at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, in Kenosha. This campus admits 95 percent of its applicants and boasts in newspaper ads that acceptance can be granted almost immediately. In the fall of 2000, only 8 percent of its incoming freshmen ranked in the top ten percent of their high school class. A whopping 42 percent ranked in the bottom half of their high school class.
...

Created in 1968, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside was designed, along with a sister campus in Green Bay, to be on a tier with the huge and internationally known University of Wisconsin in Madison. The initial plan predicted 25,000 students and a thriving graduate program. In 1972, the University of Wisconsin System was created, and Parkside and Green Bay fell into the ranks of old state campuses at Oshkosh, Stevens Point, Whitewater, and elsewhere.
...

Nice choice between nowhere and elsewhere.

Tom Green. Exactly what I'd expect from a Whitewater grad as an example of humor. Even odds that you own a copy of Freddy Got Fingered.

First fun fact that I've seen you miss. Never attended UWW except to watch football. USAF Academy class of 82. Two tours of duty one out of Beale and one out of Okinawa. Thus the Stealth tag. Now you have the facts for future reference. Never heard of Freddy Got Fingered. You naughty old man. Stay away from kiddie porn.

Andy Collins update, courtesy of OurSports Central:

QuoteAndy Collins Named af2 Offensive Player of the Week

The Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league announced in conjunction with the af2 League Office that QB Andy Collins has been named Russell Athletic af2 Offensive Player of the Week (ending Mar. 29).

Collins (6-2, 215, Occidental College), in his second af2 season, led the Lightning to a 68-54 Week 1 road victory at West Division rival Central Valley. The 25-year old signal caller completed 24-of-28 passes (85.7 percent) in the contest for 287 yards and six touchdowns with just one interception.

He also scored a career-high three rushing touchdowns to lead the Lightning to their biggest offensive output to open a season in team history. This is the first af2 weekly award of Collins' career.

Last season, Collins threw for 1,689 passing yards, 35 touchdowns and 146 completions in just seven games for the Lightning and broke the single-season franchise record with 212 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.
