Speaking of admissions:

UCSD sends 29,000 acceptance emails - TO THE WRONG GROUP OF STUDENTS

With all the budget cutbacks, it is real tough nowadays to get into a UC. There are about 22,500 undergrads at UCSD, where the average high school GPA of applicants is 3.9, and 80% of applicants have GPAs of 3.75 or higher. (Contrast: UW-Whitewater, where a mere 14% of applicants have GPAs of 3.75 or higher.) Out of the 47,000 who apply for admission to UCSD, about 42% are accepted, and out of those who are accepted about 22% enroll as freshmen, so only about 9% of those who apply to UCSD actually end up going there.

OxyBob grew up in god knows where, then attended Occidental College, proceeded to cheat, lie and slander his way through law school. So now he thinks he is the big man in town and on the D3 Post Pattern. He really wanted to impress everyone with how smart he thinks he was due to his deep seeded liberal inferiority complex, disrespect of the military and total lack of athletic ability. So he opened his new law office, but business was very slow at first.
One day, he saw a man coming up the sidewalk in Eagle Rock. He decided to make a big impression on this new client when he arrived. As the man came to the door, OxyBob picked up the phone. He motioned the man in, all the while talking. "No. Absolutely not. You tell the rest of those clowns not from Occidental College that I won't settle this case for less than one million. Yes. The Appeals Court has agreed to hear that case next week. I'll be handling the primary argument and the other members of my team will provide support. Okay. Tell the DA that I'll meet with her after I waste more countless hours surfing the internet for academic statistics that only I care about and then I'll discuss the details with her."
This sort of thing went on for almost five minutes. All the while the man with the common sense sat patiently thinking to himself, this guy is either crazy or a fool but probably a bit of both,  as OxyBob rattled instructions and stroked his own ego. Finally, OxyBob put down the phone and turned to the man. "I'm sorry for the delay, but as you can see, I'm very busy. What can I do for you?"
The UWW graduate with a 100k per year job replied, "I'm from the phone company. I came to connect your phone service."
There's only one way to find out if a man is honest...ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook.

Outside of the Southwest one may have never viewed the young ones pointing and saying "Ooohhhhhh! You got moted!!" (sic)

"Word on the street" is that Jim Fenwick who was Oxy's OC for the past 3 years is going to be named head coach at LA Valley College where he coached from '91-'96.

From the Valley Star, the school newspaper of LA Valley College:

QuoteJim Fenwick Accepts Offer for Valley Head Football Coach

Described as "just" a long-term Physical Education substitute at Valley College earlier this semester, Mr. James Fenwick will now be labeled as coach.

After months of narrowing down the reported seventeen candidates, Jimmy Fenwick was announced Wednesday morning as Valley's new head football coach.

"It's a great opportunity for Valley to get back to a competitive nature," former player for Coach Fenwick and current defensive line coach Julio Gramajo said. "When you think of Jim Fenwick coming back, you think of tradition coming back...that's what Valley needs."

Fenwick will be replacing former Coach Jimmy Simms, who stepped down after the conclusion of the 2008 season.

Though some modifications have been made to the stadium, workout facilities, and staff offices, Coach Fenwick will be no stranger to the Monarchs. He coached the team from 1991-96, and led the green and gold to an impressive four bowl games, a number one ranking, and a conference championship in the 1995 season.

After successfully taking over for former head coach and current Athletic Director Chuck Ferrero in 1991, the football staff has high hopes of what Fenwick will be able to accomplish.

"That was a big goal of mine to get Jim back here," Athletic Director Chuck Fererro stated. "To get him back is great...and great for the program."

Commencement of Coach Fenwick's work as coach will begin immediately with coach and player meetings starting today according to the Athletic Department. The seasoned Fenwick will have to quickly complete his surrounding staff while taking the reigns on the team's current spring training and weight lifting sessions.

Nice call, SCIAC Fan.

Had 3 Cal Lu shirts and a Cal Tech shirt in my AP Physics class today. All 4 recently completed visits and will be attending those schools, two playing sports. One is a baseball player and one in track.

So you're saying that three CLU physics students are equivalent to one Caltech physics student. I'd have thought the ratio to be more like 10:1.
