Former Tiger Turns Raider

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 19, 2009) – Following a whirlwind collegiate career that concluded at Occidental College after stints at the Division I , II and Junior College levels, 2008 graduate Danny Southwick has signed a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League.

Two weeks ago Southwick was invited to the Raiders mini-camp as a tryout participant and last week signed a free agent contract.

At Oxy, Southwick held a 174.12 quarterback rating with a 67 percent completion percentage as a Tiger. Prior to joining the black and orange, Southwick led Dixie State (JC) to a 15-3 record as a starter. He earned NJCAA National Offensive Player of the Week honors after passing for 506 yards and five touchdowns in a single game.

Most recently, in 2008, the Provo, Utah native played for the Louisville Fire of the Arena Football League. He completed 98 passes, including 15 touchdowns, with six TD passes in the final game of the season against Peoria.

Good for him! I hope you guys get to see him play.

DAW and FTP, it's hard to believe that your daughter wouldn't want you two participating with her. Are these Undie Runs a SoCal deal at most of the colleges?

I wonder if the Chapman coaches slip this news item into their recruiting info:

Chapman Undie Run (w/ pics and video)
Being a mom... all I can think is... "WHY" My daugther just told me that they have their "Undie" run for CSUF tonight...  I didn't understand it when she was a freshman, a sophmore and still as Junior I don't get it!!  But it's safe cause the police are following them....  riiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggghhhhhtttt

Your daughter and her girlfriends had better be careful when it comes to the police. If they attract the attention of an overzealous, dyslexic officer, then your daughter and the other gals might end up spending the night behind bras.

Bob this is for you and your Tigers.

Hey! That one's still spinning honey!

Could this event alone be the reason the SCIAC glances and then turns away at every mention of Chapman entering the conference officially?

Wildcat11....I know you're a busy guy but it would help if you alerted us BEFORE these events.

WHY? Because they're young and they'll never be in better shape. The boys are all lean and fit, with their paunches far in the future. The girls are trim, with great skin and no cellulite, and nothing sagging or drooping yet. And foremost, because they can.
C'mon, admit it DAW. If you had had the chance to do something like this when you were 19 or 20 you would have been right out there with everyone else. I know I would have.

Hold on....these folks got nothing on OxyBob and Sabertooth, right DAW?
Well, actually they DO have something on them and that's undies. Google - streaking - and see the real deal.

The Orange County Register

SANTA ANA Steve Rocco, the former Orange Unified School District trustee found guilty of swiping a half-full bottle of ketchup from Chapman University, was sentenced today to two years informal probation, fined $150 and ordered to stay away from all Chapman campuses.

Rocco, who has accused his political enemies of setting him up and said he took the bottle to recycle it, said he will appeal the case.

Rocco and his attorney, public defender Erica Gambale, met with Superior Court Judge Jacki C. Brown in closed session before the sentence was handed down. Rocco, who had wanted to defend himself, was denied a request this morning to dismiss his attorney and the sentencing went forward.

Brown asked Rocco if he wanted to address the court, but quickly reminded him that anything he said could be used against him by prosecutors.

"I think it's probably best  that I speak somewhere else," Rocco told the judge.

After the sentencing, Rocco declined to speak to a Register reporter.

A jury found Rocco guilty of one count of petty theft on April 16 after less than one day of deliberation.

Rocco was set to be booked then immediately released from Orange County Jail today, which will give him credit for the minimum sentence of one day served.

For the next two years, Rocco must stay at least 100 yards away from Chapman University, the law school and any Chapman-owned property.

In addition to the $150 in fines he must pay, another $100 fine was stayed, meaning Rocco will only have to pay the $100 if he violates his probation.

Some criticized the District Attorney's Office for spending thousands of dollars to prosecute the case.

"This is the standard sentencing for any petty theft case," said Assistant District Attorney Lynda Fernandez, who prosecuted the case. "The same argument could be made for any petty theft case, but our hope all along was to get (Rocco) to stay off the (Chapman) campus. … The law entitles him to a jury trial. That's what he asked for, so that's what he got."

Rocco served on the Orange Unified board from 2004 to 2008. He routinely preached about a group he called the Partnership that he said conspired against him.

Dear Gray Fox,

Great job by the Orange County DA. Now if they can convict someone who stole some lunch meat we'll be able to make a sandwich.

Sincerely,
