What is great about Cal Lu field is your father can get a parking spot on the street right outside the stands if you get there a reasonable time. I would bet someone would even move their car for you if you don't get there early enough.

I will not let that Stuart injury inquiry go unacknowledged. What source did you hear a rumor? That's a major rumor. Anybody talking? Please feel free to IM. Of course, I am looking down the road a week.

Hmm,

I guess the consensus is I should say sorry for being a d**k today.  Sorry.  Must've had low blood sugar this morning or something.  I was mostly trying to give Redlands and Cal Lu posters a little ribbing, but I guess I went a bit too far, and sometimes its hard to tell someone's intention just reading something they typed.  Cal Lu is a respectable school, especially for being relatively new, and the football team represents it well; they play hard and let their play do the talking for the most part.  I thought the comment about drinking beer in the parking lot made it clear that I was only joking about the rest of the stuff, but I guess not.

Also I have read all of FTP and DAW's posts over the past year and its not hard to tell they and their son are quality people.  I shouldn't have directed my post at them, I should have just posted it separately.

The rest of the past few years' Whittier teams and their coach unfortunately I'm not always so sure about.  Any coach that would let a team haul off into the night with a 60 year old trophy to do as they please makes me wonder.  Especially one with only a short length of association with that program.  Obviously I can't comment on what EVERY SINGLE Oxy team in the history of the shoes has ever done with them.  However, I can say that when we had the shoes for two years, they went in the trophy case.  When we won them back last year, we took some pictures with them on the field, then put them back in the trophy case.   I can't imagine anything else being the case under Dale Widolff's tenure.  Also, Whittier beat us in '07 fair and square, and I don't think I've ever implied otherwise, so I don't know why you don't think I've given them their 'props'.

please be sure and have the shoes shined nice and pretty for their return to Whittier College on Saturday evening.
Actually, I think we did have to re-shine the shoes last year, after your classless players took them to a party and drank beer out of them and god knows what else in '07.

Drinking beer out of The Shoes is disrespectful, disgusting, and beyond the pale. Here is the proper way to act when your team wins a revered trophy:

no worries here. I was just having some fun with my friend Bob. I have said on this board and in person to Bob that I was disapointed how the team stormed the Oxy sidelines after the victory in 07 to claim the trophy.

I would have hoped it would have been handled better...but it was a big day for them.

Hopefully the revamped Poet defense will be able to slow down the Tigers and make it a game. My guess is it will be a good one.

best of luck on saturday. Lets stay injury free and finish strong.

Fear the Poet is a great person and just having fun with Oxy Bob.  Whatever the Poets did or did not do with the "Shoes"  has nothing to do with them.  Besides, the "Shoes" are not the property of either school.  You know how every Oxy team has handled them? Having spent some time at Oxy at football games and not even being able to go to the restroom without being harassed by crazed and rude Oxy students and basketball players, you should be careful at pointing a finger.

That loss still gets your goat. Still can't give the Poets their props for that game? Wow You can say whatever you want. Make all the excuses you want. The scoreboard does not lie. On that night, the Whittier Poets were better then Oxy. Time to let it go.

After your comments to Fear the Poet....As far as classless......

Young man, I'll leave it at that.........

thanks my man...GO POETS!!

I thought we were trying to tell 1Buckeye some info on Claremont, not talk about how awesome our respective school is.  My short few sentences on Oxy were meant as an aside, not a complete shift in discussion to which SCIAC school is best.

That being said:

Hmm, I could take an easy pot shot at CLU's academic reputation (weak), campus (ugly), football facilities (crap), etc.  but that would be too easy, and I'm sure there are lots of awesome things to make up for it (good football team, close to the beach).  The only real thing I have against CLU and can't get over is this:

TAILGATERS CANT DRINK BEER IN THE PARKING LOT.

Your school is an abomination.   ;D

-I can't help my natural intuition to recruit at any given moment, with my totally humble and honest opinion - Yes, I do think my school is the best in the SCIAC, so why wouldn't I highlight why I beleive so to potential readers looking at it as an option? I'm in Sales, give me a break.

-Now, Oxy does have a great campus - I would never argue that. It is kind of like a tiny UCLA with the cool cohesive architecture, buildings stacked upon each other all amidst a hilly landscape. THERE IS ONE HUGE DIFFERENCE THOUGH, UCLA = WESTWOOD ... OXY = EAGLE ROCK! UCLA students jog through Beverly Hills for exercise, Oxy students don't venture too far off campus because they might end up in Lincoln Heights if they aren't careful...  :D

All I said was that Eagle Rock was the armpit of Pasadena - allow me to explain. If the 210 Freeway east to La Canada represents Pasadena's outstretched arm, and the 110 South to Los Angeles represents Pasadena's side, tell me where Eagle Rock is located? In essence - the armpit of Pasadena.  ;D

-Drinking beer on CLU's campus IS NOT PERMITTED and all will be IMMIDIATELY ARRESTED and sent to Ventura County jail. Do not even attempt it as it is strictly FORBIDDEN, and NO ONE does it. Just to make that clear.

-Stuart is ?!!??!??!?!? I will let you all wonder longer.

-Parking for the game, as already said will be easy for you father if you arrive early. My grandfather used to go to the games and had no trouble as long as he got there around noon, maybe a bit earlier. There is a section just to the side of the home stands (the visitors stands will be sold out after the first 15 Redlands fans arrive) that is designated for handicapped, but there is never anyone in it. I used to set up a chair there for my grandpa and he was able to watch the whole game without having to move, as it is elevated above the sideline level. If you ask around someone will help you - look for STOONK, he will be roaming around in a hat, CLU gear, and a bandana. He can make it happen for you.

Looks like its shaping up to be a great game Saturday! Unfortunately, not for Redlands. CLU snatches Redlands playoff and conference title sharing hopes...

With its collection of trendy restaurants, cozy coffee houses, a new brew pub, and old standbys like The Bucket, Casa Bianca, and The Oinkster, Eagle Rock is quite hip.

On the other hand, with its collection of numerous senior living facilities, including University Village, which is practically located on the CLU campus, Thousand Oaks is quite replacement hip.

The Black Boar on Colorado is pretty great. I stop in to a little burger place as well closer to Oxy Campus I think its Foster Freeze or something, good shakes and fries.

Who needs a bar when you can go party with the most vibrant folk in T.O. down at the lovely University Village "apartments"?! Thats a classy joint with some real animals in terms of nightlife, don't discount them for a second. You can't place an age on a good time.

At the end of the day, even though OB always provides great rebuttles I still feel like:

T.O. > Eagle Rock
CLU > OXY
24 >14

Its basic math in my eyes  :D

What does this have to do with football!? I forgot, I just enjoy debating, and probably just opened a large can of nightcrawlers...

As a CLU alum, it does my heart good to hear Kingsmen4 discuss the positives of his CLU experience much in the same way I would describe my experiences of 20+ years ago.  I am firm believer that it is the opportunity to interact with the entire campus community, and participate in variety of aspects of student life that define the small college experience.  I think CLU has always done an exceptional job in this regard, and I hope that remains true...

CLU, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of it's founding this year, has grown tremendously, especially in the years since it joined the SCIAC.  It has more than doubled its on-campus student housing, built a chapel and two other major academic buildings (with one more under construction), and the best athletic facilities in the conference.  I know that, especially from a visitor's perspective, the football facilities might seem subpar (it would suck to meet out in the open or up in Nygreen at halftime), but they've actually improved a great deal in recent years as well.  MtClef stadium is not without its flaws, but is still a great place to watch a small college football game on a Saturday afternoon.  Heck, your eleven year old son can even stand under the goal post and watch the game tying field goal sail through the uprights, only to have his heart broken by the referees.  ;)

Additionally, like Kingsmen4, I never drank beer on campus, but if I wanted to before a football game I would just try to keep it low key and not make a big deal out of it.  Cozies are good, cups are better.  ;)  Bob's suggestion on locale is a good one, people with all kinds of hips are welcome there.

I don't doubt Eagle Rock has a more eclectic collection of quality independent dining establishments than T.O., but I'm fairly sure that none of them can top the pure joy of a chocolate chip roll from Fresh Donuts (gratuitous plug for the year).

Finally, as to the game, I am looking forward to a good one.  Stuart has been a real asset, and I certainly hope he's feeling ready, but he has a few able backups, including Antoine Adams - who was the Kingsmen's leading rusher last year.

P.S.  Nihon-
Even though my participation in this discussion is way down this year, I'd like to say that I've enjoyed your posts... right up until your low blood sugar moment.  Apology accepted.  :)
