Tum Tum played football at CLU, that's all the recruiting any school should ever need!

Oh the sideline heckling that allowed me as a frosh.  It was any benchwarmers' dream...

QuoteNow, Oxy does have a great campus

I love it, but that has been disputed before.  Enter the 2006 Oxy Redlands game, just after Andy Collins' naked bootleg run for the clinching TD:
[Me smack talking on PAT] "Bet you wish you'd studied harder and got into Oxy now, huh meathead?"

[Redlands Guy]  "Nah, way too many hills.  Hills suck."

The perfect comeback.  He didn't even hesitate.  I was speechless.  ;D

Getting mugged in front of 7/11 or inside In-N-Out is a vital part of the College experience.  I'm sorry you missed out.  (Both of those actually happened to friends, btw :o)

Here's an article in the New York Times about the awesome Highland Park scene.  Great shout-outs to Oxy and local bars The York and Johnny's:

QuoteOn weekends, the L-shaped bar is often five deep with floppy-haired students from Occidental College nearby, local women in short skirts and high heels and artist types from Silver Lake with shaggy beards and trucker hats.

Edit: If you're ever in the neighborhood after an Oxy game, The York has great food and drink.  You can try a Craftsman beer on tap, brewed locally in Pasadena.

The York is outstanding . . . but the best draft beer in the area is at La Grande Orange in Pasadena where they pour Deschutes Brewery Mirror Pond Pale Ale . . . hmmmmm.  Try it with the swordfish soft tacos.

Go Oxy, pound the Poets!!  IO TRIUMPHE!!

FLASH EDIT:  Sierra Nevada Brewery's 2009 edition of its famed Celebration Ale is now available!!! Life, she is very good.

I'm from near Chico, where the Sierra Nevada brewery is.  In and around Chico it costs the same as domestic, and at the Madison Bear Garden bar you can get pitchers of it for $5 on Tuesdays (maybe Wednesdays, can't remember).   If you're ever up that far north the brewery has a fantastic restaurant and music venue that's a must-visit.

All you diapers...Hennessey Privledge - after you win....only.

But then, I see why I'm one of the few who order it.

This Saturday's regular season finales:

Chapman (3-5) @ La Verne (0-8, 0-6 SCIAC) 1:00 p.m.
Oxy (6-2, 4-1) @ Whittier (1-4, 3-5) 1:00 p.m.
Pomona (4-4, 2-3) @ Claremont (4-4, 2-3) 1:00 p.m.
Redlands (7-1, 4-1) @ Cal Lutheran (7-1, 5-0) 1:05 p.m.

Chapman vs. La Verne: It's been a long season for the Leopards. Pick: Chapman.

Pomona vs. Claremont: Pomona overcomes travel delays and jet lag to beat CMS. Pick: Pomona.

Redlands vs. Cal Lutheran: A CLU victory secures the Kingsmen's first outright SCIAC title since CLU joined the conference in 1991. Pick: Cal Lutheran, strictly out of antipathy for Redlands.

EDIT: Note that the UR-CLU game starts at 1:05 rather than the usual 1:00 start, so no need to rush to get there.

Oxy vs. Whittier: If The Shoes fit, keep them. Pick: Oxy.

Even if they do still smell of malt Liquor and cheap perfume after a night in the dorms of Whittier...

Perfect So-Cal fall weather for the big one tommorrow.

GO LU

dawgs57

I haven't posted in a LONG time, but I do still check the boards.  Being out here in Colorado, I only get to analyze based on numbers and stats.  It would appear Cal Who has the better resume than my Dawgs based on common opponents and such.

No headlines here that I'm picking Redlands in a close game, but lightning can't strike twice with Whittier v. OXY.  Can it???

I can't believe I will put this in print, but here's to CLU repping the SCIAC in Rd 1.  Stupid Rose Bowl Rule - and if UR is ever a beneficiary of this rule, I will be happy Redlands benefits but still acknowledge that it is a stupid tiebreaker.

Suppose I should not call out one guy in the Division III lovefest but if one player had not messed up his assignment at the end of the Occidental game, Redlands would be among the undefeated.

That's typical Redlands postgame loss analysis: "Except for losing the game, we would have won the game."

Hey, you folks were there.
Selway scored.

When you punish your people for making a mistake or falling short of a goal, you create an environment of extreme caution, even fearfulness. In sports it's similar to playing "not to lose" - a formula that often brings on defeat.  John Wooden

Okay here I go again!  I'd hate to blame a loss "ON ONE PLAYER" just because a mistake was made at the END of the game!  There were mistakes throughout the entire game made by TEAMMATES!  You win as a team, you lose as a team. Unfortunately, the last "mistake" is often the only one remembered!

A team with a star player is a good team, but a team without one is a great team! (author unknown)
