McMinnville is a very nice city. When you drive into town be sure and stop at the traffic signal at the intersection of NE 12th Street and NE Evans Street because McMinnvillers are very proud of it. I understand that it is such a curiosity that many local residents sit through several light changes without moving.

I could stare at it for hours and sometimes I do.

While strolling in downtown McMinnville, be sure to visit the Brett Elliott Museum and Gift Shop, where you can buy framed pieces of authentic game-worn athletic tape which once wrapped Brett Elliott's left ankle. For the more devout, for $5 you can kneel and kiss the feet of the life-sized wax figure of Elliott which is unveiled each day to the strains of Handel's Messiah.

When the weather is nice, Cory Mashburn and Ryan Cornelison set up a card table in front of the courthouse on 2nd Street, and for only $2 each of them will whack you on the butt.

Breaking News:  Cal Tech will revive its football program after a controversial SCIAC coaches meeting this morning.  The revival hinges on a new rule passed at the meeting which allows each team to carry up to 6 robots in their respective starting lineups.  Look for Tech to compete for a SCIAC championship next year with the Mars Rover at running back.

To my Tigers, coaches, players et al, Thanks again for another exciting year. Sure would have been great to see another SCIAC crown, but, i can assure you that we will only be better from here on out. Great job.

Whittier has a beautiful facility, great fan support and a lot of talent.

Congratulations to Cal Lu for winning the SCIAC championship out right.  They have been in playoff mode for three weeks now and if they are lucky, they just may catch the Wildcats napping since they have not had a meaningful game since Oct. 24.

An even better option is to continue on down 12th St. to the intersection with Baker, where you will find McMinnville's only fine dining establishment -- Muchas Gracias. According to the Health Dept. it should be allowed to reopen by this weekend.

thanks..I know Poet fans are frustrated, and probably rightfully so..but I'm telling you, the AD and President started the job of changing the face of Poet athletics and have done a fine job with the facilities to get the ball rolling. First the football,baseball and Tennis courts. The aquatics area is next.

I have confidence that things will get better....

At the game saturday, I told Pomponio,Reeber and Arlo to go kick OxyBobs ass, but unfortunately, they made nice with him instead.

They were far too polite and well-mannered to pummel an old man.

By the way, the Whittier student who paraded around the stands with a pair of shoes tied to the end of a baseball bat, and who taunted we Oxy fans with stuff like, "Obama left your school!" was hilarious. The young fellow appeared to be fully functional at 0.15% BAC (± 0.05%). He and his pals might be interested in this, courtesy of The Onion:

Redlands ends on downer

University of Redlands football coach Mike Maynard spent Sunday doing yardwork. He would rather have been preparing for an upcoming opponent.

But the Bulldogs saw any hope of a possible shared conference title or at-large playoff berth squashed with a 30-21 loss at Cal Lutheran on Saturday.

Three turnovers in the second quarter helped propel the Kingsmen to a 27-7 lead. Redlands was able to make it a game in the second half, at 27-21, but that was as close as it got.

Maynard didn't want to make much out of the four flags on what seemed to be personal-foul calls against Cal Lutheran that were waved off. Three of those came in the first quarter and one would have given the Bulldogs a key first down.

"It was peculiar. That's about the only word I can come up with," he said. "You rarely see that, let alone that many. It was just a case where one guy saw it differently than the other and they huddled and that was the decision they come up with. It wasn't the reason we didn't win. It was more the turnovers. We're not good enough to do that and win."
