University of Redlands football coach Mike Maynard spent Sunday doing yardwork.

I wonder if RFB was there holding the leaf bag for Maynard?

HAHAHAHAAHHAHAAHAHH Classic. I don't know that there is a visual that would make me smile wider.

He must really have a great garden going with two years of work behind him now, and many more promising days in the yard to come in the future.

Lets hope he doesn't pull weeds or anything after Oxy losses, he may really see some back issues if he doesn't turn this thing around pretty quick!  :D

Love it. Redlands down, Linfield next boys. LUUUU BAALLLLLL

As OxyBob will tell ya, host city for the first round, McMinnville, is a first-class act.

McMinnville is a very nice city. When you drive into town be sure and stop at the traffic signal at the intersection of NE 12th Street and NE Evans Street because McMinnvillers are very proud of it. I understand that it is such a curiosity that many local residents sit through several light changes without moving.

I could stare at it for hours and sometimes I do.

See?

While strolling in downtown McMinnville, be sure to visit the Brett Elliott Museum and Gift Shop, where you can buy framed pieces of authentic game-worn athletic tape which once wrapped Brett Elliott's left ankle. For the more devout, for $5 you can kneel and kiss the feet of the life-sized wax figure of Elliott which is unveiled each day to the strains of Handel's Messiah.

When the weather is nice, Cory Mashburn and Ryan Cornelison set up a card table in front of the courthouse on 2nd Street, and for only $2 each of them will whack you on the butt.

Have fun, Kingsmen.

It's funny that OxyBob has no clue about McMinnville. He got all the streets wrong and forgot about the best place to hang...The Elks Club on 4th and Evans. We'll be there Friday night having a drink and talking about the playoffs.....

Be careful with what you say about the butt whackers, OB. The little guy is reputed to be on Linfield's coaching staff, and the reason for the D line's success. He taught them all he knows.

Yeah, but that doesn't excuse him for trying to grab your chest.   :D

If you do trek up to the Catdome, be sure and stop by the tailgate on the corner ( By the Linfield team bus)
You must have one of my High Octaine Longies.  If it's a cold day it will help, if not cold, it will help.  If your team doesn't do well at the Catdome, it will help--  I think you get the drift here !!

See you all at The Catdome

Don't give up yet...accuweather.com is still calling for 46 and mostly cloudy but the issue might be the wind.  The wind is really suppose to be bad towards the end of the week and we might get hit with wind gusts this weekend.

[trying to beat OxyBob to the punch] and no...the wind gusts are not from all the Linfield windbags on this board [/trying to beat OxyBob to the punch]

News to me, guess I will have to take back all of the purple paint I bought to dump on Maynard's Maroon and Grey Flower garden.  :D

Tooth-

I wish...

I am very fired up about CLU's first outright SCIAC championship, and glad to hear the support from around the board.  Unfortunately, I'll be spending Saturday checking my phone for updates whilst running between a variety of other types of sporting events.  Hopefully, a celebratory Mirror Pond or two will be in order at the game's conclusion.

I did catch the last half hour or so of Saturday's game, arriving just in time to see the Kingsmen shut the Bulldogs down on 4th down in CLU territory.  Great atmosphere, reminiscent of the NAIA playoff games held there in the late 1970s & early 1980s.  Very glad to hear that TGP and others were able to make it out for the game, and had a good time.

I also thought I'd throw my two cents in on the stadium situation.  When it was built, Mt Clef Stadium sat on the outer edge of campus, and that remained true until the late 1970s when the "New West" Dorms were built.  Since that time, the academic/residential campus has grown around the stadium, and athletic facilities have moved across Olsen Road, most recently the new tennis courts that were built to make way for the Swenson Social Sciences Center (currently under construction).  My guess is that the same will be true for the Stadium and football locker rooms, training area, and coaches' offices.  I, like many of you, love the setting of Mt Clef stadium, and wish there was an easy way to upgrade seating and press box facilities on the existing site.

I am fairly sure, however, that the current real estate that Mt Clef sits on will be too valuable to the academic/student life needs of the University, especially as it looks toward building things like a more centralized student union and a performing arts center.  Eventually, the stadium will be headed north of Olsen Road.  My original understanding was that it would sit due west of the Gilbert center, not sure if that's changed, but I know that was the plan when they started construction on Gilbert.  As to funding, Kingsmen4, I like your optimism.  I think the funds could well be out there, and I think it would be awesome if football alums of all ages could launch a coordinated drive to raise the $4-5m that's probably needed to build a new facility north of Olsen.  My guess is, with funds in hand, the stadium would be fast tracked and built relatively quickly.  Until then, I will try to relish the charms of Mt Clef, and the fond memory of the Kingsmen storming back to defeat Linfield in the 1977 semifinals. :D

Question still stands...Hank Bauer ever come back and hang around? Showing up in McMinnville?

Answer: NO, his job with the San Diego Chargers does not allow time. (But just think of the boost if he did!)
