How about football

I agree!

Can everyone put their penis' away and get back on track here! (LOL)  I haven't been following the boards for a couple of months, logged on today to see what I've missed and realized it's been nothing but a pissing contest~!

Hopefully the topics will improve as football season gets closer!

Any relation to this guy?

11 - I guess since you put it that way I have to give you something...

CLU looks like they are very strong coming out of spring, especially on the D side of the ball, and the oline where they have had strong offseason improvement as a unit. Still waiting on some key transfers, and for people to step up and become "the guy" for certain positions. The biggest ? Seems to be the QB position.

Just to make sure this post is well rounded, I want to also include news from the rival doggies. I hear Redlands has hit the weights hard and should have the best looking pre-game squad in the sciac for another year. Their chants, claps, and synchronized barks are on point, and they have installed perfect pushup stations under the bleachers for last minute tricep pump up sessions. Whether they actually took the field for practice or just stayed in the weight room for extra sets of cleans "lattimer style" is still unknown.

That's all I got for now.

Speaking of sons,  snoop's son's best choice would be CLU, but he wants to go Ohio.  Maybe he just wants to get away from home.  Is Bates still taking applications?

OxyBob:
Yes, my son was on the field for the "sixth straight beating" last year and it was the ONE GAME I didn't travel down to see (my bad) I'm still upset about it!  Win or lose I love a good battle on the field.  This year I will make sure that I'm there to see the Bulldogs stop the Tiger's winning streak! ;)

Hopefully by then Redlands will have a "complete" football staff.  Quite a big turnover this past year.  It was almost comical there for a while.  I couldn't keep track of who was coming and going (it was like a revolving door)!   :(

Ok Jodidipero and K4.  What do you have to bring to the table then about football or are you going to only complain about the lack of SCIAC football talk and not actually talk about football?

Wildcat11:
Isn't there a code that you have to be "nice" to fellow "Oregonians"?  I was born and raised in Oregon, tried to talk my son into going to Linfield, but he was born and raised in California and has spent a "TON" of time in Oregon and doesn't like the weather!  I would much rather be watching football in the cold/rain of Oregon than the 100 degree weather in Redlands, LOL! :-\  He is VERY happy with his decision so I just layer on the suncreen and deal with it!

jodidipero,

How come you changed your name from jdD3FBfan last year?

Pat,
Don't punish her.  She was an excellent poster last year.  I think she just is making an honest mistake.  She also threw me off with her first post that was not up to her normal standard.

Oxy recruiting item from the Atascadero News:

Quote
Spinas to play football at Occidental College

Atascadero High School offensive lineman Dalton Spinas has committed to play football at Occidental College next year.

"Between football and academics, it just seemed like it's the best fit for me, because I know I'm going to get a great education there and the coaches really seem to be really interested in my well-being as a football player and an athlete," Spinas said.

The Tigers went 7-2 this past season at the NCAA Division III level. This year, they will open the season at home on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Menlo College, and on Saturday, Nov. 13, Spinas and the rest of the Tigers will travel to Thousand Oaks to take on Cal Lutheran, which is where Atascadero teammate Steven Keezer signed last week.
...

Whittier got a mention in an article about team nicknames in the Andrews Journal (NC):

QuoteAt Washburn College, students are Ichabods (suggested mascot – a crane?). Rhode Island School of Design is the Nads, leading students to chant "Go Nads!" at games. Whittier College is the Poets. They may not win much, but I bet they can reflect on the experience better than their opponents.

Could we get back to penis measuring for just a bit? That metal tape measure from the garage was awfully cold. My effort should not be in ve vain. I now realize I should have gone to the sewing kit in the closet upstairs instead.

Football talk...OK....how about a prediction?  I predict the SCAIC champ,co-champ,tri-champ, will be traveling to McMinnville, Oregon, next November to end their season while playing their hearts out in inclement weather.

Okay guys, I apparently logged in under the "wrong" user name this week.  It's been so long since I had checked out the boards I forgot what I was doing, lol!  I will go back to my original name now that you have pointed it out to me!  THANKS!

Blog entry from Jeffrey Jen of the Redding Record Searchlight:

QuoteCollege football grows, but not so much out West

Ever since the mid-1980s, college football programs have been disappearing particularly in California. Whether it is Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara, Pacific or St. Mary's College, there are fewer four-year options in the state and west of the Rockies. At the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), there are the Pac-10 programs as well as the Mountain West (MWC) and the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), though Louisiana Tech geographically shouldn't be considered west.

Of the 125 programs at the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), you have the Big Sky and the five-team Great West and....that's it. California, the most populated state in the United States, has all of four FCS programs (UC Davis, Sacramento Staet, Cal Poly, Univ. of San Diego).

At D-II, there is the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) which includes Humboldt State and Western Oregon. Then, you have to go to New Mexico to find the next closest football programs. Go further down and there's Menlo, Cal Lutheran and the rest of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). Of course, there is Southern Oregon, Eastern Oregon and Azusa Pacific. While some of the schools are moving up in competition, there still remains a bit of a vacuum in college football in the Western states.

The good news is that there are several new college football programs forming in the next few years. The bad news is that most of them are east of the Rockies.

In 2010, schools such as South Alabama, Georgia State, Lamar and another Notre Dame (a college in South Euclid, Ohio) are starting up programs. The first three are jumping straight into FCS competition. Of the new programs this year, only Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., is a Western school. Pacific is entering the Northwest Conference in NCAA D-III. Over the next three years, University of Texas-San Antonio and Univ. of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC-Charlotte for short) are hoping straight into the FCS.

Only George Fox, another D-III program, is going to start up a new football program. So while the opportunities are cropping up for future collegiate players, most of them are thousands of miles away from here. In short, go East, young man.

SCIAC recruiting news from the San Gabriel Valley Tribune:

QuoteBishop Amat celebrates its super 13 student-athletes

A banner spring signing period for 13 Bishop Amat High School student-athletes ended with a bang at a lunchtime ceremony put on by the school to honor their achievements.
...

The football program was well-represented by signees Matt Johnson (New Mexico), Josh Tierny (University of Redlands), Davis Cazares (New Mexico State), Anthony Avila (Occidental), Daniel Kane (University of Redlands), Alexander Ragsdale (Colorado State) and Anthony Lee (University of La Verne).

Cougar said (Copied from another blog in response to the Amat "signing day"!:
"Yes I would agree that counting the kids that have been recruited, applied, and have been admitted to any school in the SCIAC or any of the other Division 3 schools around the nation is just silly. There is no signing period. But, there is no reason not to celebrate the accomplishment.

That being said the athletics at the SCIAC Schools, like their counter-parts at St. John's (Minnesota), Mt. Union (Ohio), Linfield (Oregon) and any of the other D3 school around the country is still and will always be College Athletics. The longest running football rivalrys West of the Mississippi exist right here in Southern California; Occidental v Pomona, and Pomona v Claremont.

They may not give full scholarships, but I can guarantee that the financial aid packages at these schools will equal if not exceed the full scholarship provided by any D1 school in the nation. Some of these schools have 0 loans, similar to the program instituted by some of the Ivy League Schools; meaning they will give you the money for the education, housing, and books, with no requirement for payback.

Thes kids have the opportunity to be drafted into the profesional leagues just as any D1 athlete. If the kid has the ability the scouts will fins them. Jack Kemp from Occidental comes to mind; NFL, US Senate. I think he did okay for himself.

The bottom-line though is the D3 student-athlete is the cream of the crop. They combine the best of both worlds; athletic ability and academic superiority. They will be productive and successful members of society. "

jdD3FBfan:
This last paragraph wraps up my feelings on D3 football! The first year was a great experience for our entire family!
