CLU item from the Los Angeles Times:

QuoteCal Lutheran linebacker Brian Kelley elected to the College Football Hall of Fame

Former California Lutheran linebacker Brian Kelley has been elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Kelley, who grew up in Fullerton and graduated from Sunny Hills High, is among four players and two coaches in this year's divisional class, which features players and coaches from the Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA.

Kelley helped the Kingsmen win the 1971 NAIA Division II title and was a first-team NAIA All-American in 1972. He went on to play 10 [11] years in the NFL, all with the New York Giants.
...

Kelley was in the same defensive backfield with Brad Van Pelt, Harry Carson, and Lawrence Taylor. Suffice to say, Kelley's life has turned out better than LT's:

More importantly, Brian Kelley also played rugby for Santa Monica RFC.

Starting a few years ago, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo wanted to be called just Cal Poly.

SLO is Cal Poly. The red-headed stepchild satellite campus is Cal Poly Pomona.

It's not really worth getting into it with you...after all, you are only an Occidental grad.    8-)
You can't leave me....all the plants will die.

SF, looks like you riled up "Glory Days" RFB. All of those third place finishes have made him mighty cranky.

Speaking of CLU, one of TGP's co-workers brought in his son's SCIAC championship ring.  Pretty flashy stuff.  Looking forward to seeing some more SCIAC ball this fall up in T.O. (and hopefully I'll even get off my keister and drive out to Eagle Rock).

I see it but I do not have to comment.

SCIAC recruiting news from the Victorville Daily Press:

QuoteCrigler signs with Occidental

Sultana senior John Crigler signed a letter of intent on Friday to play football at Occidental College next school year.
...

Crigler made visits to Malone University, William Penn University, the University of Redlands and Tabor College.

Crigler attended Sultana for his first three years. Prior to his junior season, he broke his collarbone and had to sit out the season. He transferred to Granite Hills for his senior year of football to be with two of his good friends Joey Lopez and James Lovato, who had transferred the prior year, and coach Justin Price, who had coached him his freshman and sophomore years at Sultana.

As a senior, Crigler started at safety and made the Daily Press all-area team. This spring he transferred back to Sultana to graduate with his classmates.

What is with dopey sports hacks who still don't know that no D-III schools are members of the National Letter of Intent program? So if Crigler did sign something, what exactly was it?

From the Bakersfield Californian:

QuoteHigh school notebook: Stockdale celebrates its college signings

There were plenty of ways to count accomplishments inside Stockdale's library Thursday.
...

Two football players also joined in the festivities -- running backs Malik Henderson (Whittier College) and Spenser Prince (University of Redlands)...

From Palo Alto Online, a rare Pomona sighting:

QuoteSHP boys run away with WBAL track and field championship

...
Sacred Heart Prep and Menlo finally discovered which team was the best as the Gators ran away with the boys' title by winning eight of the 15 events at the WBAL Championships on Thursday at College of San Mateo.
...

Senior captains Chris Gaertner, Greg Hook and John Oppenheimer achieved their season-long goal of winning the league title, and did so in impressive fashion.
...

Hook, another two-sport standout who plans on doing both track and football at Pomona-Pitzer College in the fall, won the 400 with a personal best of 50.87 and took the triple jump with a best mark of 39-9 1/2.
