Article in the Ventura County Star about CLU's proposed new football stadium:

When Ben McEnroe went to play football at California Lutheran University in 1991, he was told he'd be playing in a new stadium by his senior year.

"It went from being a hope to a recurring joke," McEnroe said.

The recurring joke may very well become a reality this week when the proposed William Rolland Stadium goes before the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission on Monday. And McEnroe, now Coach McEnroe to current CLU football players, will be able to tell players there will be a new stadium in all seriousness — if the commission approves the project.

Planning Commission approves CLU stadium application

California Lutheran University employed a full-court press Monday evening with students, staff and supporters packing the council chamber at Thousand Oaks City Hall as the city's Planning Commission considered the university's application to build a new football stadium.

For more than an hour, one speaker after another, mostly people who work at or have some connection with CLU, addressed the commissioners in the public hearing portion of the meeting, expressing support for the private university and extolling the virtues of the project.

While the vast majority of speakers and those who had submitted written comments to the commission supported the planning application, a handful of residents who live near the university campus did express concerns about the affect the new stadium might have on their quality of life, citing problems with noise and traffic.

After almost 2 1/2 hours, the planning commissioners voted unanimously 4-0 to approve the application, which will now be submitted to the Thousand Oaks City Council for final approval.

That is a very nice piece, except that they edited out the parts about all of Selway's victories over Oxy.

As a hard-nosed center on the offensive line, Loren Danielson is used to doing his job without getting much recognition. Maybe that's why he was so stunned when individual awards piled up after his senior football season at Snohomish High School.

"Twin images three years apart," said Snohomish football coach Mark Perry, describing the similarities between Loren Danielson and his older brother Nick Danielson, a 2007 Snohomish grad. The brothers were both standout centers on the Panthers' O-line.

Loren Danielson was recruited to play for the Occidental College (Los Angeles) football team. His brother already plays for Occidental and will be a senior in the upcoming season. Occidental coaches are "looking at me to fill his position at center when he leaves," Danielson said. "It's really special. Being able to play on the same team really means a lot to me."

Great news about Oxy gaining another Danielson.  Nick's an awesome player and teammate, and his parents are great supporters of the team as well.  It'll be great for the program to have another young player from that mold.  Plus we were about to have a serious brother-duo deficiency with C. Washington graduating, so this takes care of that problem too.   

Did Selway make the all-star team in the regular or Master's division?

The opening game for the lu should be a good test for them against linfield at home.. In my opinion Linfield should be a top 3 team behind mount and UWW next seas.. they came close to knocking out WW in 09.. any news on who will be cal lu's QB this year??
