Btw... Saban blames this on the agents... Is that the case? I know that the kids have to accept the payment/deals in order for it to happen, but if the agents weren't offering there would be nothing to accept. Its easy to say, why didn't they just say no, but when your talking about young kids that come from nothing and are offered more money then they have ever seen, I see where the temptation is. Yes, why not just wait till the draft... I just think these kids are under tough circumstances with no guidance and are getting greased by slimy agents.

Kingsmen4. I think it goes back to the parents, as usual. And the parents were involved directly in this situation.

LA Times (Thursday 7/22 morning edition) reported  that Bush's records will carry asterisks in all publications.  The front page article also indicated that the school is looking into the basketball record book (OJ Mayo)  as well as the women's tennis record book.

Furthermore, the Times reported that the Heisman Trophy Trust has not set a timetable for deciding if Bush will remain the official winner  for the 2005 season.

The beat goes on................

I wonder if he is still on the alumni association mailing list?! :D  (Oh, wait, he has money - of course he is. ::))

Presumably one has to actually graduate to get on the alumni association mailing list?  Any odds on RB ever graduating - from USC or any other four year college? 8-)

Bush skipped his senior year at USC to enter the draft.

StagAlum

Seems we have some turnover at CMS. Just the other day OxyBob was complaining of no action at either CMS or PP. If only he had waited a few days to browse their sites for news.

Actually, most schools consider you an alumnus if you attended for a semester or two, regardless of whether you've earned a degree from the school.

For example:

Who's in the Alumni Association?

You're automatically in if you attended Saint John's for at least a year as an undergraduate or a School of Theology student.

i'm sure as long as your willing to donate money, they don't care if you graduated or not.

tmerton

Certainly it's in the interest of the schools to have as big a tent as possible and not exclude anyone who might be a potential donor, so I'll concede my error that graduation from a school is necessarily required to join its alumni association.  My point, poorly made, is that RB likely never will graduate from SC, and thus become an actual alumnus, especially under the circumstances (or, I suspect, from any other college not on a matchbook cover).  It will be interesting to watch how things work out at SC now that there is a new sheriff in town.

USC will still win more than their fair share of games, they usually have a deep squad, but they will be in front of the TV's for the bowl games.

Basketball will remain average, as they usually do.

I know nothing about women's tennis, except that they are usually pretty strong.

Which brings up another interesting pondering: If Reggie Bush offered a big donation, would USC accept it?

By the way, Ralph looped me in on the back-channel conversation as to whether the USC discussion should be on this board or on a separate topic. If it continues, I can definitely split it off but if it's just one of the many topics people discuss in the offseason, I'm OK with it staying.

I'm sure it is a topic of interest for the SCIAC Board due to several SCIAC current members having played USC in football in the past ;)

Many of the USC loyal fans have put their banners, caps, sweatshirts and the like in temporary storage. I have asked a few or my friends in that group about the situation and they say they are embarrassed. Most of us out here are following the story closely, whether a fan of the Trojans or otherwise.

Obviously it is your call, but I suspect it is a moot point.  With Garrett being toast, Bush being persona non grata (unlless it was a helluva big donation? ;)), and O J Mayo now considered as "WHO?", I'd assume the discussion is dead.

A sad demise to a once respected program.

USC and their fans will rally...they have to do the time but I think they will be just fine down the road with Hayden in control.  Lots of haters out there are happy to see the Trojans in trouble and I just chalk that up to jealously.  With what  is going on in the SEC they may have some company...just another reason to be a D3 junkie where its pure.  ;D

I think that two years of attendance triggers "alumni" status at most 4 year institutions.  "Graduates" and "alumni" are distinct classifications, with alumni being the broader scoop.
