The first being that if the SCIAC was to allow Chapman in, then recruiting talent would be significantly difficult for the current SCIAC schools. Therefore, current coaches would not vote Chapman in.

Second, apparently Chapman violated rules in terms of eligibility requirements in the 1990's. Some players were playing past their eligibility.

==========================================================================

So fear of Chapman recruiting and rule violations from the 90's. Wow....I guess you never get out of the jail house for the rules violation and Why could the SCIAC not compete in recruitment..

They seem to do ok in Football. The top tier competes against Chapman in Basketball and Baseball and with wins over Chapman  .SCIAC games with Chapman are very close in Soccer. Softball SCIAC team regularly beat Chapman. The SCIAC has schools with Majors that Chapman does not offer.  Facilities at Cal Lu that exceeed Chapman's.

So there is no real GOOD REASON. I always thought to be the best you play the best not fear competion. WHY would anything change ? You really think players choose SCIAC over Chapman because Chapman in not in SCIAC. It really makes no difference in recruitment in my opinion.

If there was no good reason, I would SPECULATE that they would be in the SCIAC.

On a brighter note, there is a great Q&A with CLU's coach Ben "Big Mac" McEnroe in d3football.com's "Kickoff 2010 Season Preview". Buy it, and you can read the story.

On a brighter note, there is a great Q&A with CLU's coach Ben "Big Mac" McEnroe in d3football.com's "Kickoff 2010 Season Preview". Buy it, and you can read the story.

Let me take a shot at the interview without buying it:

QuoteQ: Coach McEnroe, what's the prospects for CLU this season?

A: This team is going to make some noise. We could be a sleeper team, and a team to be reckoned with. Our players have bought into our system, everybody's on the same page, and all of the coaches think we'll be able to do all the little things you need to win in the SCIAC.

Q: Your quarterback from last season, Jericho Toilolo, graduated. Can you tell us a bit about the players who are going to replace him?

A: We have a couple of guys we're considering. We have Jacob Laudenslayer, a transfer from Marshall University. Laudenslayer is an impact player. He's physical, hard-nosed, tough, and scrappy. He can flat-out play. He can take over a game, and he's a proven player. Plus, he's the consumate team player. He's a good guy to have in our locker room. We think we'll be able to count on him week in and week out.

Q: Which teams do you think will be your toughest competition in the SCIAC?

A: Redlands and Oxy will be our main competition. Playing Oxy is always a challenge. They're a multi-faceted team with a high-octane offense. You have to respect their quickness and their athleticism. As for Redlands, as usual, they've got a lot of depth. They pride themselves on their defense. It's tough to score on UR because they have a stingy, tenacious, swarming, tough, punishing defense. As for the other SCIAC teams, there are no pushovers. Claremont gives you so many different looks, and they have a lot of weapons. Then there's Pomona. In the last couple of seasons they've been headed in the right direction. They've got great team chemistry. Whittier is always a better team than their record indicates. They've got die-hard fans. If everything clicks they could be a real Cinderella story. As for La Verne, they can put up big numbers, and they play with swagger.

Q: What can we look for from this Kingsmen team?

A: On offense, we need to dominate the line of scrimmage, and pound it out on the ground. On the other hand, we need to air it out more and open up the passing lanes. If we take care of the football and just go out and execute, we should be able to make plays on both sides of the ball. One thing I can tell you, the Kingsmen will go out there and play Cal Lutheran football.

Q: Any last words?

A: Chapman should be in the SCIAC.

That tops any "Do we have to play LINFIELD first?" I might have thrown in.

NOT bad OB! That was actually not too far off. BUT FOR THE REAL STORY, BUY KICKOFF.

Here is a more accurate account of the SCIAC from MY point of view. Had to add some items here as I had a chuckle reading through...

They pride themselves on their defense ability to take-over a pre-game and spend all of their energy chest bumping, barking, and getting the crowd hyped for warm-ups. It's tough fairly easy to score on UR because they have a stingy, tenacious, swarming, tough, punishing defense knack for allowing receivers to catch a lot of passes on them while they are trying to knock heads off unsuccessfully . As for the other SCIAC teams, there aren't shouldn't be any pushovers, but usually there is 2-3 of them a season. Claremont gives you so many different looks, and they have a lot of weapons speedy Hawaiians to choose from for runningback. Then there's Pomona. In the last couple of seasons they The Caron to Maki connection has been headed in the right direction. They've got great team chemistry brains. Whittier is not always a better team than their record indicates. They've got great, loyal, respectfuldie-hard fans. If everything clicks they got rid of the punks, and let their real players lead they could be a real Cinderella story. As for La Verne, they can put up big numbers, and they Cedric Ho thinks heplays with swagger.

Easy on my boy K4.  I'm looking forward to meeting C-Ho in a few short weeks.  I'm hoping he has his cell phone on him and he'll snap a photo of us that he can post on his twitter.  That's my dood.

That's alright, rumor has it that Oxy has found an unused year of eligibility for Andy Collins so we can look forward to another Collins-Selway matchup! ;D
;)

I would pay to see that, Andy was a great quarterback.

BULLDOGALUM52,

Correct me if I am wrong, but football coaches do not vote who gets in to a conference. It is the President of the college/university.

Regarding the eligibility situation at Chapman back in the early 90's, I am very familiar with the situation. When you cut to the chase, after a certain SCIAC school  (which I will not name) turned Chapman in to the NCAA, an investigation was done and the NCAA ruled that CU did not violate any rules.
NCAA D3 compliance rules for transfers varies from the other divisions. I suggest that you read the rules/policies regarding the situation and better your knowledge of what happened before you make generic statements.

Regarding CU joining the SCIAC, this has been an ongoing topic since CU switched to D3 and has been argued on these boards since I began following D3sports.com. Unlike a conversation regarding which team will win a game, which is settled after the final horn, this one won't be settled here. Plus, if it was settled, what would we have to debate about during the off-season? In the meantime, CU will play its schedules in the various sports which will continue to include  some NACC, NAIA and other unaffiliated schools.

I would be happy to "read the rules/policies regarding the situation and better my knowledge of what happened before I make generic statements," however I do not know the facts of the situation, therefore reading rules wont help me. Would you care to offer additional facts to clear up a situation that almost everyone on the board would be interested in hearing?

Second, I do not know the bylaws of how schools are voted in, however, if we were to assume President's have the final vote, obviously I think we can all agree that coaches have great influence on that decision.

haha, "freakish alien robots," I won't take it as an insult, but if looking good on the field was being judge, then Danny Hernandez might have won lololol...

Nothing against Cedric Ho. Gotta love his enthusiasm for technology and modern day expression  :D

At the same time, when it comes to La Verne, what else am I going to comment on??? Gotta take shots where I can.

Ya man, we used to sit outside the locker room before games and just watch your RB's walking back and forth to the training room and joke whether they were getting fueled up with regular or unleaded in the training rooms ... Probably deisel, just glad I wasn't responsible for tackling anyone.

DH was/is an all around physical and mental specimen that prided himself on a in season diet of Cheeto's Hot Fries and AZ Iced Tea. One of the best athletes to ever play at CLU, and by far the best hair.

I see that Oxy's 3rd leading tackler from last year, Josh Beck (LB), is on Pacific's roster this year.  Curious on why he would transfer for his Senior year?

We will be there GHC Saturday and will be at La Verne in two weeks.  Should be a great game as Cal Lu will be ready.  Marshal transfer QB has some impressive prior J.C. numbers and I would be surprised if he wasn't the starter.  He has a great target in Sophomore Eric Rogers who earned all SCIAC as a freshmen.  Rogers only had 50 yards receiving in the playoff but with Cal Lu's upgrades with the O line and more time for the QB I would expect Rogers to have a better game.

As I wait for the pharmacist I want to thank the powers-that-be at Laverne for the game on the 25th.
Now the 11th.....that's going to be a tussle with the uncertainty of who will be so pumped up they over run the play or whack a runner out of bounds at a critical time.
But, hey, we EXPECT TO WIN.
See you early Saturday stoonk.

Cal Cat-- I expect our Cats to show off our A game.  Insider information says that
Rocketman & Crew are ready to roll, and the D is as Salty as ever.  speed+salt+special teams is a W in my book.

See you in LA

Highlights from the Article:

ABOUT THE COACH: Jeff Thomas was named Puget Sound head coach on Jan, 26, 2010.  The 2009 American Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year accepted his first head coaching position after six seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Redlands, including three years as offensive coordinator.  Thomas had been a member of the Redlands coaching staff since 2003 where the team has been a conference title contender each year while winning the championship twice in that time.  He has worked both sides of the ball serving as coach of the defensive backs and wide receivers as well as serving as special teams coordinator.  As the offensive coordinator, Thomas helped lead the Bulldogs to various school-record performances, including total offense in a single game with 677 yards on Nov. 3, 2007.  In addition to his coaching duties, Thomas serves as Puget Sound's recruiting coordinator and the athletic department's technology liaison.

• Three upperclassmen appear at the top of their position on Pacific's two-deep depth chart, including wide receiver Drew Steindl, linebackers Marc Moody and Josh Beck and place kicker Jon Lee.

Maybe he wanted to play for a great coach!  You know I am only saying this to egg you guys on and see where it will lead...Boards have been kind of slow the last few days!
