He'll be sorry to learn that most D-3 teams are a bit better than Pacific.

I know... long time, no post.

Unfortunately, kids are more fun as they get older, but their activities make it a heck of a lot harder to keep up with your favorite college football team.  I have enjoyed checking in to read from time to time, and especially appreciated K4's contributions to the discussion. :)

I did want to check and wish the Linfield folks safe travels on their way south, and to say that I am hoping to catch most of the Cal Lu-Linfield game on Saturday.  The soccer gods have kind of smiled on me, and I'm looking forward to seeing the reloaded Kingsmen face such a traditionally great team.  No predictions or prognostications, just feeling that this is likely to be a truly great game, especially for week one.

Finally, Dens, I hope the Hedrick/Hagen flashbacks from '77 aren't keeping you up at night. ;)

Dee,
You know that the Loggers usually play a cupcake pre season so this is no surprise--their new coach should shape this kind of crap up.  Can you say earhole !!!

Whoa, lookie here now, an article about La Verne in the San Bernardino Sun:

QuoteTurnaround time
Leopards aim to shake off losing trend, get back on winning track

Three years ago Andy Ankeny took over a University of La Verne football program in turmoil. Interest was waning, wins were hard to come by and the once-proud football tradition was a distant memory.

A glimpse at the win column doesn't make it appear that the Leopards have progressed. Ankeny, who came to Southern California from East Texas Baptist University, points to some subtle improvements, but even he's tired of moral victories.

The Leopards, 3-24 in the last three years, get the 2010 season under way Saturday when they travel up the road a little to face Azusa Pacific in a 6 p.m. game at Citrus College.
...

The school's last winning season came in 2005, when it went 5-4, but the last SCIAC title came in 1995. That was the last in a run of back-to-back-to-back titles.
...

Ankeny is hoping a couple of major changes pay dividends. First, he wants his team to get physical. The Leopards have routinely gotten manhandled by the upper-echelon teams such as Redlands, Occidental and Cal Lutheran.
...

The other change is in plain, old-fashioned strategy. Ankeny was running a spread offense with multiple receiving threats lined up on both sides. Now he realizes that likely wasn't the best setup for the personnel he had.

The Leopards averaged 249 yards a game passing, which ranked them a respectable third in the SCIAC, but they averaged a minuscule 15.7 yards per game on the ground. For the Leos to get over the hump, they need a more balanced offense.

Candidates for the starting quarterback job vacated by the graduated Anthony Andre are sophomore Jose Garay and junior Josh Ross, both of whom played little last season, and junior Thomas Arguello.

Among those looking to step up the effort in the backfield are sophomore Erek Brown, senior Devon Libran and newcomer Chad Lucas.
...

Boy, I wonder if the Redlands SID will get a roster up before the season starts on Saturday?
It must be right.  They have Selway listed as a senior, but maybe he's been grandfathered in.

Selway's been around long enough to be a grandfather.

GF, that was sublime.

Is that a subtlety awesome joke?

I have nothing to lose, I WILL run out on the field to keep a collapse like that from ever happening again.
You will notice we did learn from our mistakes. If this CalLu team is anywhere near as good as as that Hank Bauer gang anything could happen....again.
How's that defense though?

The "Redlands Roster" is being kept in the same sealed envelope as the evidence against Oxy Coach! Not sure if either will be revealed in the near future!

I got my copy of the Roster today, don't know if it will ever appear on the web site........And YES.......Selway is still listed as a SENIOR and his little brother as a FRESHMEN.  We believe there will come a time that there is only one SELWAY on the roster again, but not sure when that will actually happen......Is Selway Senior out of eligibility yet? (He is like the gift that keeps on giving)! LOL

Word on the coconut telegraph is that Cal Lu is the real deal this year, could be the monsters of the SCIAC. Da Who v Da Cats should be a humdinger, rip snorter, barn burner.

Apparently the Star Chamber has not been able to convene yet.

And the OTHER D3 Football Team in SoCal but NOT IN THE SCIAC opens their season this week. Will Menlo wipe out the Panthers after destroying Oxy last week. Yes I know the SCIAC fans don't care. At least Panthers post their 2010 roster and no National Security blackout on roster or coaching staff. Also they still have the nicest D3 stadium and field in SoCal over the current  SCIAC team fields.

Saturday Sep. 11  Chapman at Menlo   12:00 PM   ???

Mt. Clef Stadium for Cal Lu BEFORE picture. If the new stadium looks like anything the Baseball and Pool Venues I am sure it will be the top D3 faciltiy in SoCal next year.
