Mt. Clef Stadium for Cal Lu BEFORE picture. If the new stadium looks like anything the Baseball and Pool Venues I am sure it will be the top D3 faciltiy in SoCal next year.

Ted Runner stadium is and will always be the best football facility in the SCIAC. Got to love a grass field that is maintained well and plays faster than field turf. Chapman's new stadium is okay but they missed the boat on that design.

The lack of an accurate roster for Redlands is not nearly as important as the lack of a posted basketball schedule for Oxy.  BTW the site says "2010 Roster Coming Soon!"

dahlby is laying in the weeds and can't wait to pounce on Oxy for their failure to schedule Chapman.

Sheesh, I guess 0-9 last year and a win over a new program gave our freshman wideout supreme confidence, heading into a game against a traditional SCIAC power. Ah well, I am still looking foward to a 2 game Saturday in sunny southern California. It's 45 in Boise this morning.

Also they still have the nicest D3 stadium and field in SoCal over the current  SCIAC team fields.

Yeah, it's real fun to meet the players and coaches after the game while standing in a drafty hallway rather than out on the field. That's because no one's allowed to walk on Chapman's precious Field Turf. I'll take Mt. Clef, Burns, Merritt, Runner, Patterson or Memorial any day over Chapman's prison-like stadium.

excited to watch CLU vs. Linfield tomorrow. I like Linfields QB and hope to see the CLU defense stop him and the rest of the Linfield offense... maybe he will take one of those hits that WC11 loves to post up. hahaha. Definitely want to see an injury free game because I do not want an excuse for either team in why they did not win the game.

the part about "CLU starting QB list basketball as favorite sport"
- if I remember correctly, the school wants players to list their favorite sport... besides the sport they play at CLU.

looking forward to seeing the CLU and Linfield alum before the game tomorrow. safe travels to all of you.

Ted Runner was my favorite stadium in the SCIAC as well (The Purple Pit doesn't count, of course). I loved most the sloshed students that would stand behind the end zone and heckle. As you can imagine, I enjoyed talking trash back and forth with them every time we were on that side of the field. I also prize the memory of walking off the Runner as my last moment in college football - Best and most accomplished feeling I have had thus far in my young life. Would have loved to finish in the playoffs - but defeating a bitter rival at their place to end your career on a high note was incomparable for me. It was a tough and fun place to play, and for some reason beating a solid team at their place felt so much better.

Saturday Sep. 11  Chapman at Menlo   12:00 PM   ???

Maybe they will get an independent championship this year for "nicest stadium" to supplement their sub .500 win percentage.  :D :D :D

Chapman has a NEW stadium - that is all it has over many of the SCIAC schools. The turf is too stiff. The ground shakes everytime an SUV drives through the parking garage below the field. The fans are too far away, and removed from the feel of the game. The space behind the endzones with nothing there but a big graphic in the turf is awkward and loneley - needs some stands or something. Overall it just feels too spread out and "private/quiet". Would suit a field hockey game well. NOT TO MENTION the position of the light poles in front of the visitor's stands makes watching film a challenge.

You probably would have changed that after all those dunks I laid on you in intramurals. I thought your favorite sport besides football was MarioCart.

Gray Fox,

I already know that they did not schedule that independent team down in Orange County. I am just curious to see who they scheduled outside of conference teams. I know it will be a tough schedule, because they will be hoping for a Pool C bid.

BTW, I am not laying in the weeds, I am  behind the iron gates and moat protecting the precious field turf that is used by football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's  lacrosse, PE classes, and students. The field is used for both games and practices. It is the only field available, so must be taken care of.

hahaha. you did dunk a lot on the 8 ft rims that we played on. hahaha.

I agree with K4 on both counts.  Ted Runner is the best d3 stadium in SoCal hands down in my opinion.  Though I can't remember hearing any hecklers.  Oh wait, that's probably b/c I've never trailed in a game played at Ted Runner  8-)

Putting a parking lot under Chapman's field was a strange choice.  I can understand needing to conserve space, but it's tough to like a field that has the equivalent of a 4.0 earthquake ten times a game.

Looks like I might make it out to Thousand Oaks to see Proud Papa Joe and watch his son play RB.  Hope he's as hard to tackle tomorrow as he was in HS.  Should be a good one.

Nobody indicated they were going when I asked.  So, I hope you see some.

Ill chime in on this "best stadium talk":
In my most unbiased opinion, Ted Runner hands down.... ;)

K4- I think you are 2-2 against UofR correct?

Its kind of interesting, we lost to CU freshmen year at Mt. Clef in 2005
Beat you guys in the Runner w/ Danny Jones on your team in 2006
Beat you guys again at Mt. Clef (that year we went to the Playoffs thanks to Whittier) in 2007
Lost to you guys in the Runner 2008, your short passing game killed us...and I got kicked out of the game for punching a guy in the helmet after he sucker punched my groin...funny thing about that was that I was his host when he was a recruit at Redlands....

Anyways, worst stadium has to be Pomona Pitzers...

Hopefully CU can beat up on Linfield...So  Redlands can beat up on Whitworth and establish the SCIAC as a reputable conference nationally.... Go DOGS!

Nihon- I really cant say much, you guys beat us....fair and square....although I am still missing some money, happen to know where it is? Maybe your locker rooms? haha, cheap shot I know, its all i got!

Unfortunately I will not be at the Redlands game, I'll be at the USC game, tailgating at 12!

Anyways good luck again to all the teams playing this weekend!

It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up.

I'll be leaving the homestaed in at 6 am on Saturday and arriving around 11 at CLU. Hope top meet some of the Kingsmen fans. Then headed over to Eagle Rock for the UPS - Oxy game and meeting some of the Tiger posters. Missed you last year Oxybob. I'll be roaming the sidelines wearing a d3photography shirt. Say hello.

QuoteFinally, Dens, I hope the Hedrick/Hagen flashbacks from '77 aren't keeping you up at night.

Is that a subtlety awesome joke?

I have nothing to lose, I WILL run out on the field to keep a collapse like that from ever happening again.
You will notice we did learn from our mistakes. If this CalLu team is anywhere near as good as as that Hank Bauer gang anything could happen....again.
How's that defense though?

I wasn't trying for subtlety, but hey, if it worked... :)

As for the D, we'll see.  They were pretty tough last year, and it sounds like they've picked up some talented newcomers to replace what they lost to graduation.  I guess we'll find out soon enough.

On the stadium question, Ted Runner is a very nice place to watch a game, it would be even better if they moved the stands on top of the track...  :D  but IMHO nothing in the SCIAC beats watching a last minute game winning score from in front of the snack shack at Mt. Clef.  The new stadium will be an improved facility, here's hoping it offers the same kind of access as its predecessor.
