GHC: Now I keep hearing that famous Jim Mora rant.......PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS?

Wasn't able to make it out to the Oxy-UPS game. The Tigers whomped the Loggers, 44-14. Oxy outgained UPS 472-289. Ryan Rodriguez started at QB for Oxy and was 13-for-27 for 206 yds, 3 TDs, and 2 INTs. Ryan Nastor gained 128 yds on 33 carries and scored one TD. Nate Sullivan had 5 catches for 123 yds and 2 TDs.

UPS scored first on a 10-yd run by Kapuno Park, but Oxy reeled off 3 TDs and a couple of Josh Mun FGs and led 27-6 at the half. A 72-yd bomb from Rodriguez to Sullivan put Oxy up 37-14, and LB Greg Holsworth completed the scoring with a pick-6.

Way to put a pounding on Oxy, Thiesen Chang.

nothing in the SCIAC beats watching a last minute game winning score from in front of the snack shack at Mt. Clef.

Or watching the 59-yard game-winning FG go just under the crossbar, or the 30-yard game-tying FG go wide left in a driving rainstorm.

OxyBob

I knew OB wouldn't be able to resist that one, and don't let him fool you.  He stands across the field from the snack stand, which is apparently the best place to focus all of your element bending powers to either stop the prevailing wind or summon random October thunder showers...

Might have been wide left from your viewpoint behind the goalposts... but from the holder's perspective it went directly over the right upright, and in my eyes I had no doubt it was good.

I give K4 a pass on not remembering which upright, because I would have been in a state of shock too if I was holding for that kick.  Besides, a very reliable eye-witness, who lives in my house, was standing under the left upright, and he says it was good.  :P

Can't 'et this one go... it was "wide right"... That stat must have been like a spotter giving the "pile-diver" a tackle...

Quote of the day: "Realistically, this game doesn't mean anything in our conference chase for the automatic qualifying spot for playoffs," McEnroe said.

If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?

First of all props to The CLU players and coaching staff on the W.  The Cats were in it all of the way to the late onside kick that we pulled out of the pile .  We play again-- We win it.

K4, thanks for the heads up on CLU being a dry campus. Nice Prank Dude.

We did our usual set up food ole blue and all of the fixings of a great Cats tiilgate on the road.  All of a suddun the CLU DEA was all over us like a bad rash.  This dude in his golf cart with the shiny badge just came over and stood by us and lurked.  Then advised us that drinking is not allowed in any form-- we needed to dump it and he had to watch..  I advised him that anywhere I pour the contents of blue out the grass will not return.

So K4 I will be billing you $58.25 for the contents of blue plus freight and handling from Seattle to LA.

You see for me-- some things are not priceless--Like class !!!

Peace Out

I had warned everyone on the boards about the "CLU PO" A.K.A. CLU Police/Rent-a-cops that roam around in over priced vehicles abusing their "power". It really sucks that you guys got hosed like that - I think if I remember right that Oxy had the same issue on that side of the field a few years back.

The best thing you can do is keep your cups down - but the fact that they poured out your drink – that is just not right, and they should be punished for criminal acts of wasting booze.

Like it or not for CLU's security - people have enjoying themselves drinking ALCOHOL/BEER/WINE on campus, before the games, for years - probably decades. I know there are rules for everything... but come on - its NCAA sports, and as long as you have of age and under control patrons and fans that have given more than imaginable amounts of TIME, MONEY, and SWEAT for their program – I just don’t see the issue and it is pretty lame.

CLU-PO has to do their job of course, but why not just focus on keeping people safe instead of ruining people’s celebrations. Sorry about that guys – serious bummer.  Get me the name from the “officers” “badge”, and I will seek your reimbursement directly from him… but unfortunately I can’t say I am willing to cover that. Because we were able to get our tailgate on and avoid getting our loot poured out by the man, I will chalk it up that maybe it was just our day Saturday!

As far as the final score –can’t say I’m sorry at all…  :D WHAT a great game and effort.

I know there were a lot of comments about the language and demeanor of the CLUers … but like everyone else has been saying – every school and game has fans that are going to act out and mis-represent the majority. I love the fact that when I was on the sidelines at Linfield last year, that I had to freeze my ass off, watch my team get there asses kicked, and at the same time deal with the shirtless ravaging Linfield faithful that had grouped behind the fence directly behind our sidelines and were slinging around some great trash talk. They were loud, offensive, and most importantly hilariously effective in what they did. I think it’s merely part of the game/atmosphere, and I find it all entertaining and enjoyable. As long as it is not taken too far and both sides can laugh at it afterward then that is all that matters.

I hope all of the Linfield fans had a great trip overall and enjoyed the Mt. Clef football experience. The best team on that day won the game – but we all know that this is going to likely send Linfield on a rampage, and I can imagine they can’t wait to see us again for payback. Seemed like there were no major injuries – that’s a win/win for everyone.

I felt that way too, but I'm not in a position to verify it.
Considering some of the hitting going on, that's something.

You will hear from CatFan longer than you care to as you prepare to move on to NoLutes because LINFIELD has that lick-your-wounds-bye week.

Always good seeing you. Good luck to Oxy the rest of the season.

Claremont got some press in the San Bernardino Sun:

QuoteRetzlaff's debut as coach a breeze

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team picked up a 65-21 victory over Lewis & Clark on Saturday night at Zinda Field in the debut of interim coach Steve Retzlaff, who took over the reins from longtime mentor Rick Candaele, who retired last month.
...

There wasn't a lot for Retzlaff to be displeased about. The Stags rolled up 491 yards in offense, 345 of that on the ground. They did give up 234 yards and 21 points but most of the yardage and all of the points came in the second half after he substituted freely.

Nine players contributed to the gaudy rushing total, with Spencer Clark and Peter Kimmey both totaling 81 yards and Alex Wheatley next at 80. Quarterback Patrick Rooney threw for 146 yards, evenly distributed to five receivers.

As a former defensive coach, Retzlaff was thrilled with the play on that side of the ball. The defense forced a safety, returned a blocked punt for a touchdown and David Spiller ran back an interception 75 yards for another score.
...

The Stags look to have another rather easy game on hand next week as they will play Pacific University (Ore.), which just revived its football program after a 19-year respite. The freshmen-heavy Boxers dropped their opener to Puget Sound 36-19 a week ago. They were idle this week.
...

Some bad news for La Verne, which got whacked around pretty good by Azusa Pacific, 59-14:

Quote[Head coach Andy] Ankeny said that wide receiver Cedric Ho will probably not return this season. Ho was the Leopards' top player last year when he caught 81 passes for 894 yards, but has been slow in recovering from ankle surgery in January.

Understatement:

QuoteThe nonconference schedule isn't making it any easier for the Leopards to get back on the winning track. They are idle this week but the next game in two weeks will be against No. 4 Linfield (Ore.), which is likely stewing after a 47-42 loss to Cal Lutheran.

Thanks for the pics OxyFan. I found several of my son.

It was a great atmosphere at Eagle Rock. Unfortunately, seven UPS turnovers sealed the deal. It did get interesting late when UPS had the ball at the Oxy 9 down two scores, but another interception ended the threat.

Oxy's shifty running back was tough, and the QB made all of the critical throws. Nice win for the Tigers, and more work to do for the Loggers.

A little disappointed my full Saturday schedule didn't allow me to make it up to Mt Clef to see what sounded like a great game between two top programs.

Does this win for CLU mean they are in the drivers seat to potentially run the table in the SCIAC?  I know CLU has three consecutive road games - do they slip up during this stretch?
