A little disappointed my full Saturday schedule didn't allow me to make it up to Mt Clef to see what sounded like a great game between two top programs.

Does this win for CLU mean they are in the drivers seat to potentially run the table in the SCIAC?  I know CLU has three consecutive road games - do they slip up during this stretch?
I think anybody who has followed the SCIAC knows that winning the conference is a challenge no matter who you beat in the preseason....I suspect CLU will be challenged again by several SCIAC teams--I don't see Redland or Oxy lying down and it seems like every year Whittier upsets or comes close to upsetting somebody....

I don't suspect them to slip... but just because they beat the #4 team in the nation still does not say a lot in the scope of the season ahead. 8 games left to be played, a lot can happen.

-Though PLU has been down for years, for some reason they always play us very tough and the last two trips we have made up there have been close call wins for CAl LU. That NW weather is just depressing to play in  :D

-The bye week is huge for the LU before going to Redlands for an early season "conference championship" type game. NO doubt it will be a tough win to pull out.

-After that it is all about avoiding an upset until the OXY season finale. I always mark Claremont as the team to bring an upset type game to the LU... Whittier I think not. We love blowing them out too much.

Overall Saturday was a feel good win but those can be dangerous early in the season. Over confidence is a killer, we just need to focus on playing each team better than we did the last. Hopefully saturday's trip to PLU will show that.

Cal Lu is the favorite but we already knew that coming into the season as they are the defending SCIAC champs. Even with the win over Linfield and the great talent they brought in the game still has to be played.

Redlands won their first game over a pretty good East Texas Baptist team on the road and had to overcome some big obstacles (Heat/Humidity & early start). Don't forget that East Texas beat a WIAC (LaCrosse) school by two touchdowns on the road and that is never easy to do. My point is that Redlands has a lot of talent as well and could be in the mix for a big upset. Looking forward to it!

CLU is the favorite but that doesn't mean anything. Redlands and Oxy are always great teams and are never easy games. Selway always scares me because he is a dual threat... and we all know about his experience. Injuries can also hurt a teams chances at winning the conference.

In my 4 years, Clairemont always played us tough and brought a lot of pressure. They bring different blitzes and try to confuse the QB. \

K4 is right... Whittier is doubtful because we remember some of the dirty plays that happened in the previous year and really enjoy watching some of the younger guys get experience in the 4th quarter.

On a different note... I would like to see a rematch between CLU and Linfield in the playoffs.

Fear the Poet

a few rounds DEEP in the playoffs. I'm tired of one team from the west (Lets be honest, Wisconsin is not in the west) representing after the first round. The NWC/SCIAC first round matchup is getting old.

Hopefully Either Linfield or Willamette wins out, so that both teams are seeded high enough to avoid a first round match up. Two teams from the far west making it into the deeper rounds would only make all of our cause that much stronger for the future.

Gig Harbor Cat

Dream on k4--  Round one will be played on the west coast-- If there is a second place team in the mix they be headin for Texas !!

In order to get deep into the playoffs, doesn't a SCIAC team have to get out of the first round? And as for wishing against a first round SCIAC-NWC match-up, not happening.

True about all three.

The early start avoided the heat of the day.   ;D

When did Redlands fly home?  Saturday night?

Redlands had a nice following.

It could happen if they take two NWC teams.
Yeah but I don't see them taking a NWC team with 2 losses which assuming Linfield and Willamette perform as expected then they will be the two teams and one will have 2 losses...

The San Bernardino Sun had an article about Whittier:

QuoteWhittier tries to turn the corner

It's been 12 years since the Whittier College football team posted a .500 record.

The Poets finished 7-2 in 1998 when they won their last Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title.

Whittier College since has compiled a 22-77 overall record.

Last year, the Poets were 3-6 under fifth-year coach BJ Hammer, who owns a 10-26 mark.
...

The Poets ranked second in the conference in rushing with a 165.7 yards-per-game average and ran for more than 200 yards in three contests.

Some of the big returners include 5-9, 220-pound sophomore Rodrigo Muratalla (71 rushes for 362 yards) and converted sophomore wide receiver Kimble Tillman, a Cantwell Sacred Heart High alumnus.
...

The team's 4-3 defense depends heavily on the success of ends Ryan Kirkpatrick and Tyson Schilling (four sacks and 10 tackles for loss). They are reinforced by senior middle linebacker Jared Cato (49 tackles and five tackles for losses).
...

Linebacker Daniel Cordova (St. Paul), defensive lineman Richard Duran (Schurr), linebacker Thomas Hawkes (La Mirada resident), offensive lineman James Hoomalu (La Mirada), offensive linemen Daran and David Novak (Whittier Christian), kicker Doug Soriano (El Rancho) and defensive lineman Bryan Turner (El Rancho) round out the team's locals.

D O.C.

After losing to the SoLutes I took a gander at their roster – and then the rest of the SCIAC.
I do not purport to know what all non-public high schools are but if the school had prep, St., academy, Bishop, Christian, Don, and so on, I counted it. I am familiar with So Cal non public schools.
CMS 25

La Verne 14

Occidental 26

Pomona-Pitzer 14

Redlands 21 (no, I did not count Valhalla H.S.)

Whittier 16 (no, not Bishop, CA)

CLU  31 (Sidelight, the SoLutes had only one recruit from a Lutheran private school and none from Orange Lutheran.)

LINFIELD 13
UW Whitewater 4

What's the point?
I dunno. Just the facts, Ma'am.

Shoot, to get in there all you have to do is walk into the admissions office and breathe on a mirror. "You're alive? Welcome to Whitewater."
