After losing to the SoLutes I took a gander at their roster – and then the rest of the SCIAC.
I do not purport to know what all non-public high schools are but if the school had prep, St., academy, Bishop, Christian, Don, and so on, I counted it. I am familiar with So Cal non public schools.
CMS 25

La Verne 14

Occidental 26

Pomona-Pitzer 14

Redlands 21 (no, I did not count Valhalla H.S.)

Whittier 16 (no, not Bishop, CA)

CLU  31 (Sidelight, the SoLutes had only one recruit from a Lutheran private school and none from Orange Lutheran.)

LINFIELD 13
UW Whitewater 4

What’s the point?
I dunno. Just the facts, Ma’am.

I think you have something...Top 3 SCIAC football schools also the top 3 with private school HS grads on roster....Mean anything....maybe, maybe not...

P.S. Vinny didn't make up that quote.

The reason you see so many Private School attending SCIAC schools is the cost.  Redlands is almost $45,000 a year to live on campus.  If you can afford a Private School you can afford Redlands or you go to a JC, Cal State, like a majority of Public School kids in CA.  Linfield is about $30,000, but non of the JC's in Oregon play football, so the public school kids gotta go somewhere.  UW Whitewater is $6500 a semester or $13,000 a year.  Redlands is around 2,000 students, Linfield is over 2,500 students, and UW Whitewater has 10,700 students.  That would be like a Cal State or UC system school playing D3 football.

The way UCLA played the other day, the Bruins just might consider it.

With the private school discussion, I would say parents play a big role in that too. If their kid went to a private high school, likely it was through their parent's encouragement, and I'm sure that carries over when selecting a college to play at. I don't know that just because a kid went to a private high school, that it automatically means they can afford a private college edu. Don't many of the private high schools offer scholarships? At schools like brophy and st. Mary's in phoenix I know a number of high caliber athletes that received scholarships to attend those prep schools.

Grants and acedemic money only goes so far at sciac schools, so unfortunately a lot of these kids not only leave college with a ton of great memories, but a large sum of loans that they have to carry along.

I don't think UCLA has the talent to play D3 this year....maybe they could pull a Menlo and go NAIA...

Dear Kingsmen,

You guys fooled me on Saturday.  I thought we were going to get spanked.  What I saw in the first half was a disappointment.  I watched 11 penalties and an o-line trying to figure out how to pick up the blitz.  Run blocking was ok.   It was 28-7 when I left.  I had seen this movie before and had seen enough of the Lynnfield track meet.  I was thirsty, my head hurt and I remembered this beverage called beer that makes disappointments fade, women good looking and me witty.

So I bailed out, pulled the rip cord, exited stage right.  I had other things to do, like mow the lawn.

I figured I would not miss anything.  DOH!!!!  I was wrong.

Good job Kingsmen!

You have got game after all.

i look forward to the rest of the season.

Yes SCIAC needs a team to fill the void of Cal Tech not playing football. The Bruins could indeed rejoin the SCIAC. Then the top 3 could have another team to play and drop those Chapman guys...

SCIAC HISTORY
1920  UCLA joins (then known as the Southern Branch of the University of California)
1927  UCLA leaves

Just pulled out my sons financial aid package=Total $48,294 (on Campus) and since these football players eat like they have bottomless stomachs, it will cost even more when his meal plan money runs out!    ;D

Thank goodness he is a smart kid! (NO HE DID NOT GO TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL)!!! I have to say, Redlands absolutely offered him the BEST financial aid package (Scholarships/Grants)especially compared to all the other schools (From the East Coast to the West Coast)!

Only "4" more days until another great "SCIAC" football weekend!  Good luck and an injury free weekend to all!

CAL LU - 31
Oxy - 26
CMS - 25
Redlands - 21

I wouldn't rank CMS in the top three over Redlands!  LOL

Do you think the recruiting from private school produce better players?  I'd be curious to see how many of the starters are from private vs. public if that is the case.

I glanced at the "Redlands Roster" and only having a sophmore on the team I would say the players that I know that are stand-out athletes don't necessarily have the private school history! (Of course I don't claim to know who all the STAND OUT ATHLETES ARE) Just something to think about..........More DRUNK STATISTICS TO PONDER LOL!

BTW Yes I have two "log in names"!  When I am at work my computer auto logs me in as jodidipiero and when I am at home (those late night posts that don't make sense) I am logged in as jdD3FBfan (or something like that)!  Sorry to confuse everyone!

OMG Really?  $80 caused all of this fuss?  He should have been smart enough to just have SOMEONE ELSE hand the kid the $80! Who was the Snitch?

I guess breaking a rule is breaking a rule!

I'd be more worried about having "off season" workouts........

I'm glad that the OXY coaches and players can move on now!  Lesson learned.......keep your cash to yourself and don't practice before the rest of us!

NCAA is ridiculous.....They take in billons, pay NCAA officials ridiculous obscene salaries and then actually suspend a coach over this....A written warning with some other punishment would have been better than to impact a team and coach in season to be suspended.

Of course at the D1 level the level of NCAA violations that goes on at some places is ridiculous...who gets hurt are always the student athletes on the teams that have nothing to do with the violations.

Here is a look at NCAA DIII Rules book....

A test will be held soon.....

Crash:

Remember, it was the school that suspended him. The NCAA may indeed have been more lenient if it had handed down punishment.
