Not sure what it's like in SoCal, but many eastern private lib art schools have as much as 70% of students on fin aid...save for many NESCAC institutions (most kids who go there don't even apply for aid - that's a fact).

. . . .

Another way to check on the makeup of the kids attending the school is to go to the student parking lot and count the number of expensive (or new) cars in it.   :)
Several nice cars in NOT SCIAC Chapman's parking lot thats for sure..

NICE new website for SCIAC out there now. Link to Football site

BULLDOGALUM52

Tough loss for the Bulldogs, turnovers were too costly in the end..hats off to the Who, however I think Redlands has an outside shot to go into the Playoffs. If Redlands beats Oxy, then Oxy beats CLU, assuming all teams win out, doesn't Redlands get into the playoffs via Rose Bowl rule?
It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up.

Eyewitness report from Eagle Rock:

Oxy 25, Whittier 22

Oxy had two byes in a row, and they played like it. Rustier than old tin cans. 11 penalties for 83 yards, most of them for illegal procedure.

Uneventful first half. In the first quarter, Whittier kicked a field goal and Oxy came back with a TD, and it was 7-3 at the half.

In the third quarter, Oxy blocked a punt and scored on an 11-yard pass from Luke Collis to Chandler Tunney. Whittier came back with two straight TDs. The Poets burned Oxy on a reverse and Josh Ollison went 73 yards for a score, and on WC's next possession Alesana Sausau went to a wide open Ollison again on a 24-yard pass. The point after was no good, and Whittier led 16-14 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Josh Mun's 35-yard FG gave Oxy the lead 17-16, but after a change of possesions Whittier blocked a punt and scored on a 2-yard run by Rodrigo Muratalla. WC tried for 2 but failed, and the Poets led 22-17. Oxy then put together a 9-play, 65-yard drive, capped by an 8-yard pass from Collis to Nate Sullivan. The 2-point conversion was good, and Oxy led 25-22 at 3:25. Whittier went out on downs, and Oxy ran out the clock.

For Oxy, Collis was 22-for-30 for 214 yards and 3 TDs. His primary targets were Matthew Tuckness with 7 catches and Bobby Phillips with 6. Ryan Nastor and Wes McDaniel rushed for 53 and 51 yards respectively.

For Whittier, Sausau was 9-for-17 for 104 yards and 1 TD, and he rushed for 57 yards. Kimble Tillman rushed for 58 yards.

One of those "we'll take it" wins for Oxy.

Note to Oxy PA guy: The Tigers play at La Verne next week, not at Redlands, as you announced twice. Maybe if you weren't so busy screaming hysterically into the mike the entire game you'd have known that.

Claremont has a new mascot:

Whittier has t-shirts which say "Fear the Poet." I suppose Claremont will have some that say "Fear the Deer."

GREAT football game... a little too close for my liking as a fan. Can't say I enjoyed it, the stress was a little rough...

Loved beating Redlands at their place once again. They were a little bit chapped after the potential game winner was blocked, letting us know that it was still "their house", but I would say the scoreboard in the last 2 meetings at the runner would disagree...  :o

Anyways Redlands has a great team but its up the the LU to to lock up the SCIAC now, they are in the drivers seat and need to stay on their toes to avoid an upset during the drag of the next few games.

Look forward to a beat down next week on the poets... the bad blood always helps put them away quick.

That's mildly put.  I started looking for a wall to put my back to after you guys brought it into "my space."   ;D

What a game!  Hats off to the Bulldog defense for keeping us in the game until the bitter end!  42 passes - 16 catches.........really?  It seemed like  100 passes and only 2 catches.  I cringed every time the offense took the field.  NOT VERY IMPRESSIVE!  It was painful to watch!   Hopefully it was just from having a week off, but it didn't seem like they were "clicking" for some reason.

My heart broke for the kicker at the end (just because I am a mom....and no I AM NOT HIS MOM)!  I felt the weight & pressure he was carrying out onto the field.  I was also disappointed to hear several Redlands' Dad's openly scream, "That damn kicker just caused us the game"!  We were all upset and disappointed, but everyone makes mistakes.  I guess those "dad's" forgot about ALL THE MISTAKES THAT WE MADE IN THE FIRST TWO HOURS OF THE GAME!  (Fumbles, penalties, bad throws & dropped passes, turnovers, missed tackles  ect)!
Let's not forget the offensive coaching decisions.  Remember we went for the "2" point conversion  how many times and DIDN'T MAKE IT? Maybe if we had kicked the extra points instead we would have won the game by "1" point instead of losing by "2"........... so many "what ifs"!

It is what it is, and emotions were running STRONG in the last quarter of the game, but I don't normally hear that kind of negative talk from the Redlands parents (at least about their own players, lol...so as disappointing as the loss was, the verbal attack on the kicker made me feel worse)!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully we can shake off the loss...cheer on OXY to beat LU and then turn around and kick OXY's butt? :-*

Who knows what "upsets" are going to take place between now and then! :D

OxyBob's report on the game was spot on (i.e., a lot of rust and mental mistakes).  But I think it was more than a "we'll take it" win.  The new guys that have had an opportunity to play (especially on offense) are getting a sense of the huge amount of effort it takes to win at this level and that no game is an "easy" win.

Here are some images of the game (I had to press Mrs. Oxy Fan's computer into service because mine died today and I wasn't able to work on them like I usually do):

With Claremont and Pomona-Pitzer playing at the same time Saturday night, does anybody try to hit both games?  Do they let people reenter the stadiums without making a big deal of it?

I don't remember either PP or CMS charging an admission.
