Surely you jest.

Let's get back to how many of those Solute transfers are still on the squad.  I like human interest stories.

My two biggest questions this year are PLU and Claremont. They both are always tough teams but have consistently landed in the mid to bottom of their conferences as of late. They normally have smaller teams with less athletes, but play hard and find ways to win games.

Will either emerge as a top team in their leagues this year or will they fizzle out???

PLU NCAA history looks good to me.

NCAA DIVISION III NATIONAL PLAYOFFS
1998    at Saint John's 33, PLU 20
1999    PLU 28, at Willamette 24
     PLU 49, at Wartburg 14
     PLU 19, at Saint John's 9
     PLU 49, at Trinity 28
PLU 42, Rowan 13 (at Salem, Va.)
-- National Champion
2000    PLU 41, at Bethel 13
     Saint John's 28, at PLU 21 (OT)
2001    PLU 27, at Whitworth 26 (OT)
PLU 27, at Central 21 (OT)
     at Saint John's 31, PLU 6

2001 was a looongggg time ago. Much has changed, that's why I said "as of late"... When was the last time PLU was 4-0?

They are obviously playing well but I have a hard time seeing them taking it further and beating teams like wilamette and Linfield. Same with claremont in the sciac.

4 of the last 5 seasons have resulted in losing records for the Lutes, including 3-6 the past two years.  2007 was the exception with the 4-0 start and 7-2 finish.  I don't know yet either if they are a serious threat for the NWC crown, but I'm certainly encouraged by the improved play.

I think a better question is when was the last time PLU beat Linfield?  Seems like the Wildcats have their number, and whoever the other conference power is that year (Wil/Whit) usually does as well.  Then again it's a new year so you never know.

As for Claremont, they usually have a couple of good athletes, but not enough to seriously challenge the big boys.  Maybe enough of a team for an upset of one of the big three, but not enough for a conference title.  See no reason for that to change this year.

2001 was the last year the Lutes beat the Cats.

Ah you are right - 2007 they were a good team with a lot of seniors, if I remember right - and a pretty pretty solid QB/WR combo along with some tough LB's and DE's.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the rest of their schedule - I would love to see them make a run and at least knock off Linfield... They do have a good RB ............ ;-)

Looks like CLU still has around around 20 transfers.

QuoteMy two biggest questions this year are PLU and Claremont.

Seriously, are you comparing CLU to Claremont?

To hear Kingsmen4 talk, I assumed that CLU had dominated PLU. Yet in 11 games since 1997, PLU is 7-4.

The other SoCal D3 football team based in the OC continues to play at the level of the SCIAC bottom feeders, like Pomona, La Verne, Whittier while CMS this year is having a year to compete with the SCIAC big boys like Redlands, Cal Who, and Oxy. Great to see it looks like a 4 team race this year in the SCIAC.

Has CMS played any of the "BIG BOY's" Yet?  Redlands, Cal Who or Oxy?  I think they have had an easy schedule so far, but as usual, I didn't check my "facts" before I posted so I just might not know what I am talking about, LOL! :o

OB has never heard me talk thankfully ... Yet in 5 games from 2005-2009 CLU is 4-1, so in that sense your assumption was correct ... Statistics are funny like that.

Hubris is a stretch, I would go with confident.

Maybe this will help understand what I was getting at:

PLU:
2010 (3-0, 1-0 NWC)
2009 (3-6, 3-3 NWC)
2008 (3-6, 3-3 NWC)
2007 (7-2, 4-2 NWC)
2006 (4-5, 4-2 NWC)

Claremont:
2010 (3-0, 1-0 SCIAC)
2009 (5-4, 3-3 SCIAC)
2008 (4-5, 3-3 SCIAC)
2007 (3-6, 2-4 SCIAC)
2006 (4-5, 2-4 SCIAC)

Two very similar teams having two very similar years so far.

Your obviously going back to Joan Rivers again ... Give her a break. She didn't know that badminton in the 40's took up all of her eligibility. She's still in school - studying rocket science with OB. No telling whether she can stand another whole semester with him so maybe your right ...
