Who is running that show? Tell them we want to see the real wildcats for everygame, not just when they "choose" to "show up"    :D

This isn't fencing to keep fans off the field that we're talking about. It's fencing to keep people from walking up and getting in for free.

Interesting point, PC. From the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship handbook:

QuoteAdmission shall be charged at all NCAA championships, unless a governing sports committee determines that charging admission is not feasible due to facility configuration or the expenses relative to the event's attendance history.

Mt. Clef is completely open all the way around. CLU has never charged admission. It'd be darn near impossible to surround it with a fence and make people pay to get in.

Article about CLU's Jordan Barta in the Ventura County Star:

QuoteBarta and CLU a perfect match

As far as recruiting visits go, the one taken by Jordan Barta isn't likely to appear in any how-to manuals.

The morning Barta arrived at Cal Lutheran, he was told the football coach had resigned a day earlier.

If that wasn't enough to dampen Barta's spirits, rain prevented him from receiving a full tour of the campus.

Yet despite the ominous nature of his trip, the Beaverton, Ore., native still decided to attend CLU and play football.
...

Barta's jump has been rewarded. The 6-foot-3, 221-pound senior has flourished in his career at defensive end for the Kingsmen.

Barta is leading the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in sacks (nine) and tackles for loss (12).

He is the most visible member of the first senior class to play four years under CLU head coach Ben McEnroe.

The group will be playing its final home game and the final game ever played at Mount Clef Stadium on Saturday when CLU (7-1, 5-0) hosts Occidental in the SCIAC finale.

The Kingsmen have already clinched their second straight trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs, and can clinch its second straight outright SCIAC title with a win over the Tigers.
...

Nothing in the article about whether Clinton Panton will be listed in the two-deep for the Oxy game.

Wouldn't that rule imply that because Clef is not "feasible due to configuration", that they simply would not charge admission? UNLESS was the key word that stuck out to me...

I know it is not an option because they want the revenue, but I'm just reading the rule as it is...

Quotenot charge admission

!!! You just keep getting cuter every day. Yeah, that's the ticket! "How about a promotional day where the casino just gives everyone their money back one day?"

How about Occidental MAKES a field goal in the last seconds?

Interesting article ... Barta is a solid guy and player. He was on the leadership committee as a freshman and always had some pretty hilarious things to say in meetings ... not too far off from "and just kind of playing with my pants on fire" ...  :D :D :D

Hard to believe that just 4 years ago CLU had its starting QB and entire coaching staff (accept for OC Clay Richardson) leave the program a few weeks before spring football began. Coach Mac has done great things with the program and beyond the jabs and complaints from the teams we are beating, has taken CLU from an inconsistent team into a powerhouse in the SCIAC, and gained the support of the students and administration that the program hasn't had in decades.

Congrats to the seniors and the coaching staff that have made the last 4 years a major turning point in the program's history.

Words out of context, ever thought of being a reporter? I was reading into the NCAA rule, not suggesting free admission.

...And THE RULE doesn't suggest giving money back, it suggests not colleting the money. Bad analogy.

OXY will not be presented that opportunity on Saturday, so no reason to mill around behind the goal posts this time around.  ;)

Sorry, Bob, but you're wrong on both counts.  CLU charged admission for football games well into the 1990s, and the stadium was surrounded by a 10'-12' chain link fence.  You know the kind, every elementary school in the San Fernando Valley had the exact same fence around the playground, Cal Lu probably got theirs surplus from the LAUSD.

10-15 years ago, CLU decided it would stop charging admission to all athletic events, and some time in the last decade the chain link was replaced by a 4'-5' high fence. As DOC pointed out, it's not a tall fence, but CLU can close off the perimeter and charge admission rather easily if they like.

Looking forward to at least one more great fall Saturday at MtClef stadium, and a great game against Oxy.

I've been watching games at Mt. Clef since CLU joined the SCIAC, and I don't recall a fence around the field or ever paying to get in. But no one would know CLU history better than you, so I defer to your knowledge.

The NCAA kept Wesley from hosting in 2000 because of a similar setup. Wesley later upgraded its stadium.

Quotehas taken CLU from an inconsistent team into a powerhouse in the SCIAC

Isn't this fun?

A loss to Nolutes - not in the SCIAC - and a blocked field goal to preserve the powerhouse status?

On any given Saturday, I will assign that status, because I've seen it.

Easy solution the Human Chain Fence. CLU students can do it...
This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."
