Anyway with them as a 7th conference game for SCIAC teams, we would now be allowed to schedule another non-conference and have a normal 10 game schedule like all the big boys??

-Go LU

So the query is whether the SCIAC will change its rules to permit a 10th game (and all the costs, fiscal and otherwise, associated with adding a 10th game).

Good question.  Guess this might be one of those "cultural" questions that the league will face.

Quote from: wildcat11I asked the ref in question why he tossed and his only response was "personal reasons".    I think you're spot on why it was tossed

If he would have known current NCAA rules he could have justified the flag pretty easily. Fisher pretty clearly makes contact with the crown of his helmet against the side of the Cal Lu receiver's helmet...and if you don't agree with that then there is always sub-point "b" . Of course, the rules don't change the fact that I've been watching that play on a loop for the last 24 hours straight lol

QuoteInitiating Contact/Targeting an Opponent
ARTICLE 3. a. No player shall initiate contact and target an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. When in question, it is a foul.
b. No player shall initiate contact and target a defenseless opponent above the shoulders. When in question, it is a foul. (Refer to Points of Emphasis on FR-9 for a description of "Defenseless Player.")
PENALTY (a-B.)—Personal foul. 15 yards from the basic spot, or 15 yards from the succeeding spot for dead-ball fouls. Also, automatic first down for fouls by Team B if not in conflict with other rules. (Exception: Penalties for offensive team personal fouls behind the neutral zone are enforced from the previous spot.

a defenseless receiver can be defined as

So is Chapman going to be better than sub par now that they are back in the SCIAC? No excuses now... right??!

How does Cal Lu compare to compare to Chapman in the other sports ? Would you consider Chapman subpar in every sport or just this one. Last time I checked Chapman did beat SCIAC team 4 times in football this past season with a 4 point loss to Redlands....Not sure I would call this subpar.......

You don't have to call it subpar, but that doesn't affect my view...

2010 (4-5) Low: Loss to Claremont/Menlo, High: Beat Oxy
2009 (4-5) Low: Loss to Whittier, High: NONE (unless beating LA Verne by 3 counts)
2008 (5-4) Low: No noteable wins, High: NONE (unless beating Pomona by 14 counts)
2007 (6-3) Low: 3 Losses (by far most competetive CU team in years) High: Beat CLU
2006 (4-5) Low: Losses to Clairmont/Whittier/Menlo, High: Beat Redlands

Averaging 4.5 wins (lets call it 5) over the last 5 years in my opinion is nothing more than subpar. Feel free to check out the definition of the word below, that should help qualify my statement, feelings, etc.

sub·par (sb-pär), adj.
1. Not measuring up to traditional standards of performance, value, or production.

*Note: This is a football board, and though I too comment on other sports/topics sometimes, I was purely reffering to Chapman Football in my latest post. I do not know enough even about Cal Lu's other sports to talk trash in that sense.

Who Willamette? Yes they do...

haha  :D I did think Linfield did too though at some point. But ... schools in Texas, Wisconsin (Big Boys), and elsewhere play 10 game schedules, and I know I wished I could have had that extra non-conference game for not only the experience of traveling but also the feeling that you were playing a real full season.

Thanks though OB.

+1 Too funny
This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

After 5 straight losses even a subpar team like Chapman is apt to get a win.

By the way, who is CLU bringing in this fall to play a couple of games before they leave for "personal reasons"?

dahlby

I have only been on the boards for a couple of years, and have always respected OXYBOB'S posts  and the facts that he usually uses to support his opinions (posts). But, for some unknown reason, I can not understand his constant "negative" attitude toward the Chapman programs. If anyone can explain this to me, includoing OXYBOB, I would certainly appreciate it. Personally, I have been involved with the CU athletic department for over 20 years. I have seen the changes that have been made.  For the life of me, as much as I respect BOB, I can't figure his attitude out. The rest of the nayesayers, I have been able to deal with, but for the life of me.....please help me understand.

Thanks for any input, Dahlby

Good one !

The "over" was probably an age limit and I qualified for that.
