-- when did Whittier change its colors?

OxyBob

I think the proper question is who did'nt change to black home unis?  From recent pics, both Cal Lu and La Verne did as well.  You can see Cal Lu's on d3football's home page and here is La Verne's: http://www.leopardathletics.com/sports/fball/2011-12/Releases/10-1-1_cms

From what I heard the CLU black uni's were only for the Redlands game. We only have 2 more home games this year, prob won't wear them again.

As far as I can remember the game has always been played around this time.  Too bad Pat Coleman and company don't have the resources to do a college gameday deal at the D3 level.  This would be a great one to be at.

Redlands CLU played in the final game of the year from 06-09 ... The conference/coaches wanted to have more rivalry games in the final game of the year like the big schools.

Hell of a comeback by Cal Lu tonight. Redlands played a perfect first half and so did Cal Lu in the second. Both teams played with a lot of guts and that's to be commended.

It sucks that the SCIAC can't get two teams in the playoffs because Redlands has an outstanding team. Of course they need to win out and even if that happens history says it's not happening. If they do it's time for the NCAA to do the right thing and give the SCIAC a chance. Go Dawgs!

Great game to witness. I think that a lot of Cal Lu fans had given up hope, and that a lot of Redlands fans had gotten a little too confident. Showed a lot about the Cal Lu team, we have some gamers for sure. Still don't know why Rogers doesn't get the ball more, he should have 10 receptions a game.

Redlands is a dangerous team... their QB is solid. Could have gone either way, just glad that we once again proved we are the better team  ;D

Might have something to do with the double and triple teams on him....I don't get why CLU isn't running the triple option--QB is a beast to take down :)
Go Cats!

Congrats to Clu.Redlands is a very good and talented team and this win was huge.Hopefully soon we can play all 4 qtrs.D played much better the second half once they quit over shooting gaps.holding Ru to 64 yds in the half was awesome.I also liked the shorter  quicker routs in the scond half on O.The new stadium is great, but it looks like they under built the seating. All in all a good night for CLU football but its time to really start stepping it up.IF all goes right dawgs,we shall meet again in round 1. ;)

He was in single coverage on average (not their best player on the field) Redlands DB's more than a few occasions. Even if he is double covered... our QB has the arm and the confidence in Rogers to put it up as a jump ball. No one is going to out jump Rogers and worst case scenario he plays DB and knocks it down. We take 2-3 shots per game deep to Rogers he will convert at least one, and it will give Mosier a lot more room to run the ball. Comparable to what Stafford and Johnson have going for the Lions if you have had a chance to watch them this season. The closest I have been to coaching is playing Madden so I am obviously not the most reputable source for a game plan, but as a former receiver I love the way that Rogers plays and feel like he needs more opportunities to stretch the field. We have 4-6 solid receivers that can dominate the short/mid game as well so if the full attention gets turned to Rogers there are plenty of places to put the ball.

Still room for seating in the far endzone across from the scoreboard. It's never too early for expansion right?

The front loaded schedule is tough but the first hurdle is done... watch out for trap games and take every week like it is a playoff game and we will keep rolling. If Redlands wins out you would think they will come back to CLU and possibly send a pool C to Linfield?

Home field advantage in round 1 would be huge and this scenario actually plays in our favor... otherwise we would be back to McMinnville again I would think...

Hey everyone,
Just joined the boards and wanted to wish everyone a healthy 2011 season. Saturday night at the LU was pretty crazy, definitely had some doubts headed into half time.  Hard fought game by both teams, but a very long bus ride home for the puppies.

Pomona is plucky, and Sweeney is probably the top back in the SCIAC,....

In other news, this is a pretty bold statement when CLU has the First Team All SCIAC RB not even getting the majority of the carries.  Plus, Sweeny ran for 74 on 20 carries against the LU last year while Deme'Trek Chambers ran for 131 and 2 TDs.

DoubleDomer

I doubt that calling Sweeney the best back in the SCIAC is very bold.  I've seen both teams play, and I'm quite comfortable predicting what those numbers would look like if you put Sweeney behind CLC's line and Chambers behind Pomona's.

dahlby

I saw Sweeney Saturday night against Chapman....the guy is like an "eveready battery", he just keeps going, and going and..... He makes his own yardage after the first and second hits.

I will have to wait until CU plays CLU before I can comment on Chambers.

LuBallWalkOn

You'll see him (Chambers) in the slot and as a returner more than RB, Danny Mosier is the starting RB for CLU this year.

I am also comfortable thinking that anyone who gets the ball 40 times a game is going to put up big numbers.  It's a useless argument unless both get the ball the same and are on the same team, which they are not.  Either way, Sweeney has put up some darn good numbers.

LuBallWalkOn

Saturday's games should be pretty easy to predict except for Chapman vs. CMS.  Gonna be interesting to see if CMS can continue it's campaign to be part of the "Big 4" as they said before their matchup with the LU last year. (CLU 41 CMS 14)

CLU vs Whittier: Whittier throws the ball A LOT.  Should be fun watching their receivers battle two lockdown corners in Villavicencio and Haulcy-Bateman.  Coming over the middle shouldn't be too fun either with Galbreth laying bricks. Whittier also did a bit of talking in the offseason, bulletin board material.  Prediction 38-10 CLU

Redlands and Oxy both win handily.

Sweeny is the new "guy" for Pomona. Because of their low roster numbers year to year and academic standards - they always have only 1 or 2 "guys" that standout and get ALL of the time with the ball. Caron to Maki encompassed that for the last 4 years ... with them gone Sweeny is their "guy". Not taking away from Pomona or Sweeny - I respect the way they play and carry themselves ... but his stats are going to be inflated because no one else will touch the ball as much as he does. Plug in Mosier or Chambers in that spot and they would likely have the same success if not more just from the sheer number of carries against a lot of sub par SCIAC and non-conference teams.

Whittier always talks, the funny thing is ... no one listens. Look for CLU to drop 50 on them, and Whittier to rack up personal fouls.

I suppose that's one way to look at it--he's always going to get the numbers because he's the one-eyed among the blind. (Assuming here that you Cal Lutherans read your Erasmus as dutifully as us Midwestern Lutherans do.)  But I suppose another way to look at it is that he's a kid with the brains to get into one of the 10 best liberal arts colleges in the land and the balls to take the rock 30 times a game and try to find a crease behind 5 guys who'd average 2.5 on the depth chart at a CLC--and put 6 yards per carry in the rack in the process.  And, mind you, I hate Pomona.

By the way, LuBallWalkOn, as a tuition payer for a player in the SCIAC, I probably have a rather different definition of the "Big 4" in the conference.  But, nonetheless, to quote Kingsmen, "I respect the way [those who go to CaLu] carry themselves."

Cal Lu joined the SCIAC in 1992. The head to head record is below.

Redlands 13 Wins
Cal Lu 6 Wins

From 1992-2003 Redlands won 11/12. Since then Cal Lu has won 5/7. The game this weekend is going to be a good one.

The rivalry started in 91 when redlands lost 24-14 to cal lutheran.

Must u pad ur win loss record the same way u over pad ur pants?

We may have knocked u out of the play offs again. . . Makes my evil heart grow a little everytime.   ;)

Rogers was all SCIAC 2010 also  and not many throws to him.Why nobody seems to know. Two big play makers not being used. What is the deal?

Eric will start getting more looks I bet. Clu has 4-5 really good rec., getting everyone involved seems to be the problem, but this may have changed in the 2nd half of sat. game.8 different rec. touched the ball.Redlands really had no answer for the passing game after half time,Ilook for more of this in weeks to come. This will also help to free Mosier to have some good games. The scoring drives we have had this year seem tobe10-12 play drives and not so explosive,i kinda like that approach.
