Went to LV vs CMS but I missed the game last night!!! DAMN IT! Maybe the leo's have finally figured it out!! and can turn this year into something. Or maybe it was a fluke.. I'll be ready to cheer them on vs Cal Lu that's for sure..

While reviewing the Redlands/Pomona stats, I noticed Pomona's Luke Sweeney had no stats. Does anyone know the reason?

The Redlands announcers were talking about it. He was suited up on the sideline and looked ready to play. Not sure if he was dinged up or has an injury. He has been getting close to 40 carries a game coming into the Redlands game. They are going to need him healthy the rest of the season to have any chance of getting some wins so it would not surprise me if they kept him out last night as a precaution.

I am waiting for some OXY posters comments regarding their game last night, I couldn't believe the score when I got home last night and brought up the scores on my computer.....

. . . I think the box score answers most of your question (5 turnovers, 42 rushing yards for, 321 rushing yards against).  That and taking La Verne lightly and coming out flat in the first half answers the rest of your question.  There was nothing wrong with the intensity of the Oxy D in the second half, however, where they played some very inspired ball.

Here are some pics from the game:  http://gallery.me.com/aybates#100392

Oxy Fan:
Great shots, thanks for sharing.
You are right about the stats.

Chapman has the talent on offense and defense to at least be respectable, but it neeeds to
start scoring on more drives and take some of the pressure off of the defense.

I do agree that Chapman has some tools on offense.  Having seen them play both Pomona and CMS now, however, I really don't see the defense. Frankly, CU was not at all stout against either ground game.  (In fact, I'd say that LaVerne's defensive front is probably better.)  I'd expect CLC to have its choice of running at will behind its hosses or of firing up its impressive passing game--and suspect that Redlands well-balanced offensive attack will find lots of opportunities against the Panthers D.  But perhaps I missed something in Chapman that a stronger opponent might reveal.

DoubleDomer:

On Chapman's web site (chapmanathletics.com) you can click on the stats and bring up the play by play. If you do this you will see that CMS ran the ball something like 14 times out of 16 opportunities
on their last drive. They also only ran the ball pretty much inside the tackles on their last six or seven attempts down at the goal line. This resulted in the clock continuing to run. Either it was questionable play calling by the staff at CMS, or it was good defense within the red zone by Chapman. Take your pick...I probably am not qualified to choose, and besides may be a little bias.
Remember, CMS only scored against the CU defense on the first series (the offense gave up the saftey. The defense was tough in the red zone, and also blocked a field goal.

On offense, the line is blocking good this year and affording the QB protection. We had a few dropped or missed catch opportunities, and a few errant tosses to open receivers that could have led to some big plays.

Fortunately, Chapman does not play CLU or Redlands until the end of the year. In the meantime CU
will have its work cut out for itself with Whittier (CU Homecoming, with the a former CU coach and former CU player now coaching at Whittier) , at ULV (always a close game regardless of either team's record) and at OXY (which I think is their homecoming) still to play. Those games are challenge enough now for the Panthers. What happens against CLU and Redlands remains to be seen....they do play the games for a reason. I know the coaches and some of the players with Chapman, and have no doubt that win or lose, every member of the team will walk off the field
having given more than 100%.

By the way, isn't our pep band great, and our yell squad cheers the whole game. The game was competitive, the brats good and the atmosphere super...D3 football...what's better!?

Not only 321 yards rushing, but 2 backs and the QB all over 100 yards. Yikes.

I can't remember the last time Oxy lost to La Verne. Must have been when Don Morel was coach. Usually I'd look up the answer in 2 seconds, but Oxy in its infinite wisdom took the past seasons archive down or hid it somewhere.

2002, last game of the season at La Verne. 24-22. If I remember correctly I think we used a fake FG and a fake punt to help win that game.
Hail to the Orange, Hail to the Green,
Hail to the Leos, FIGHT ULV!!!

So does this mean Sweeney won't play against CLU or Claremont either?     You gotta think he is going to play every game unless he was injured.

I must have been right, 0 yards against Redlands!

Since McEnroe became the head coach at CLU, the Kingsmen have outscored the Leopards of La Verne 176-51. Should be looking for something similar to last weeks Poet crushing, although they took one from Oxy last week.  Going to be interesting to see how the Tigers bounce back this week against Pomona and the "nation's leading rusher."

HOLY #()*#_)*($!   Nail biting, foot stomp'n, pants peeing ending!  Congratulations Redlands!  That hail mary pass should be up for the D3 PLAY OF THE WEEK for sure!   ;)

QuoteCongratulations Redlands!
For what? Holding CMS on their last drive? Making North Central look really bad? Showing the CLU second half was no fluke? Perhaps losing your playoff chance?
Oh! you must mean the lucky bounce around winning 6!
Congratulations.   ;D
