Assuming that Cal Lutheran and Redlands both win this weekend and Linfield completes its NWC sweep, it seems likely that either Linfield and Cal Lutheran meet (again) or Redlands goes to Cal Lutheran (again). I know you have to play in your region, but it's kind of a bummer tio have to play a team twice when that second game's in the first round. I wonderful if that happens elsewhere?

Actually you don't necessarily have to play in your region--they do ship teams to other regions when it suits a purpose but avoiding a rematch has never been one of the reasons for the West Coast teams.  It will most likely be Redlands to Cal Lu and somebody else to Linfield---after that who knows.

Whatever saves money.  Similar bad match-ups have happened in Texas, another "island" area.

Congrats to La Verne's Matthew Biggers for being named to the D3football.com team of the week.

Pomona was not a good team, but when you are coming from where ULV was coming from, a win is a win, and a blowout win is huge for them.

QuoteK4 <> DAWGS bark at anything and be so stupid to chase their own wagging tail !.So take it easy on the Redlands Dawgs in those ugly uniforms for they know not what they do !

Okay, fair enough for Kingsmen4 to hold a 7-year grudge (I still hold a
grudge against Whittier going waaay back), but this slanderous cheap-shot at Redlands' uniforms is taking things too far!   ;)

It was great to see the Dawgs give fans a big win over Poets in a year with only 4 home games and move up to 13 in DIIIfootball.com ranks. I have no idea why SCIAC teams play only 9 regular season games while the high school teams in Redlands play 11 games before a CIA tournament similar to DIII playoffs.

Whatever our playoff fate might be if UR can win a tough one at Chapman, next year the Dawgs play CLU, Oxy, CMS at home with one of SCIAC's top QB's and WR's as well as two good RB's returning. Does anyone know when Chapman is going to be allowed to compete for a SCIAC championship?

Dawgs' new Co-ordinator, Jim Goode, should be fully clued into Coach Maynard's strategies next season. It's not far-fetched that Goode could be UR's next Head Coach in 4 or 5 years.

Hemingway13:

Nine game limit is due to cost considerations. The extra game (to make 10) would require a flight every other year if that extra game were to be a D3 game. I believe the cost now is somewhere around $30,000 or so.

Chapman will be eligible to play for the auto-bid starting in 2012, in all sports.

Hope this answers your questions.

rfb,

it could be worth a rematch with Solute's   :)

Have to get by Chapman first. Even then it's a doubtful reality.
I know where your skepticism comes from RFB, but if Redlands wins out I don't really see how the committee leaves them at home this year.  The win against NCC and the fact that there just aren't that many Pool C teams with only one loss and a win against a Quality opponent.  St. Olaf's loss this week solidified the Bulldogs (assuming they take care of Chapman) play-off spot, IMO.

I sure hope you're right. There's nothing I'd like more than to see Redlands get revenge against Cal Lutheran in the playoffs and then hopefully get to host a game in the next round. Even if the Bulldogs do beat Chapman and then Cal Lutheran, I don't know if they'll get to host a home playoff game or not? It's just my hope as I return home to SoCal from a far too long stay in Texas in two weeks. Rah! Rah! Redlands!

The fans may dis the other team, but I'll guarantee that the players, coaches, former coaches and players, and anyone else involved have a lot of respect for the other side. As Cal Lutheran's SID in 1966-68 and 1972-74, I know that the Bulldogs are our fiercest rival and have been all the way back to 1965, when they handed us our only loss and probably kept us out of the NAIA playoffs.

IF Redlands goes to CLU for round 1 ... the winner (CLU  ;)) would likely travel to Linfield the following week I would think. Redlands is still a long shot to make the playoffs due to the history with this scenario, and in my opinion hosting is a whole 'nother ball game at this point.

The CLU - OXY game has had a pattern of the visiting team winning in past years. CLU can't get trapped this week and needs to play their best game to beat OXY at "the Rock" and finish out another undefeated SCIAC year.

K-4 ,you are right. CLu cannot sleep walk through another half like at chapman(although chapman played very well). coach mac kept some dinged up starters out and i dont know if they will play this week either.(going into the playoffs healthy imo would take priority). It should would be nice to finish another undefeated sciac year though ;D

CLU fans can stay home and watch the eight teams battle it out for the first rounds of the NCAA volleyball playoffs.  Teams include CLU, Oxy and Chapman from the SCIAC and PLU and Whitworth from the NWC.

Thank's for the respectful words about Redlands, the feeling is mutual. You only beat us by 4 points last time, so it would be great to meet up again in a playoff setting.

Oh good lord, I hope not!  No offense, but I don't see anyting good that Goode has done this year.

I have to agree with you on that one.  UR dominated Cal Lu for a half and changed their game plan in the 2nd half.  There were a lot of passes thrown later in the game when running the clock should have been the plan.  I don't see Redlands play often but they confuse the heck out of me.
I do think it will be a rematch in the 1st round but I have to think it would be another close game.  Cal Lu has blown everyone in the SCIAC out while UR has had a few tight ones.  Obviously I wouldn't think Cal Lu could blow out UR (I think they will play a much closer game with Oxy this weekend) and I think both teams learned a lot about each other last time.
