Umhb2001,

Good to hear from someone with in-depth knowledge of UR's opponents on Saturday. Your analysis was lucid and compelling.

Our passing Dee ranking near the bottom of DIII is a fair indicator of how the secondary has struggled this year, albiet against some SCIAC teams that had pass-heavy attacks.  Feature this: for Oxy's six Conference games, their ace QB Collis averaged 50 attempts. Crikey!

The other pain in the proverbial for Dawg alums has been our egregious personal foul count, often for hitting players out of bounds. I'll be very surprised if we continue with this nonsensical lack of discipline in Belton.

Chad Hurst is a genuine double threat QB with enough experience now to take his game up to the next level. Getting this playoff bid is just what the Dawgs needed for Hurst, WR Irwin and our So/Jr RB's to gain invaluable experience for next season.  ;D

I don't have any stats for you....just going on gut instincts on this one.  In my opinion I believe that Redlands is under-rated.  They are not going to be the marshmellows you played the last few games.  I think it's going to come down to turnovers and who wants it more.  Just my opinion, nothing more.

Speaking of marshmallows it looks like Redlands soundly beat the not so good teams of the SCIAC this year but played some pretty close games throughout the year, is this due to the level of talent in the SCIAC or maybe the Bulldogs playing down to the level of talent they are playing against?

cludad

Hem, collis passed for 390 against the dawgs and only 190 against CLU.THe one thing that may help the dawgs is mhb looks like they may use alot of 2 rec. sets as opposed to the 4-5 rec. they usually see.Cru  Redlands can play and are good,if they play to the level of their competition you may be in for a game.

RFB

The level of talent in the SCIAC this year has improved drastically. Redlands, Cal Lu, and Oxy are always talented across the board. The big jump this year was ULV & CMS stepping up their games.

Pomona will always have issues as their academic entrance requirements are at the highest for all colleges in the US. As for Whitter I just don't know. They have a revolving door for coaches who seem to have trouble getting it done. There are no reasons that they should not have a decent program. The SCIAC needs the bottom tier programs to become better to raise the national profile of the conference.

Chapman enters the conference next year and they are the unknown factor. They have not been relevant in football since the 90's when they restarted their football program and stocked their team with tranfers from Cal State Fullerton & Long Beach after they both folded their programs.

Chapman is a national player in baseball and have a very good basketball program as well. In my opinion they have the most upside to become a big time program. They have top notch facilities and their campus sits in the heart of Orange County. It should be a pretty easy sell to recruits to come play there. A good school, phenomenal weather, and the hottest women on the planet. What's not to like about that? Can I please be 18 again?

Oxy ruled the conference for a decade and Cal Lu is a step away from becoming a national player. Redlands under Mike Maynard has always been good to great as a program. There have been few down years here and there but those usually are 5-4 type seasons. Overall, Redlands dominated the 90's, Oxy owned the 00's, and Cal Lu is setting themselves up to be the next powerhouse. It's good to have parity in the conference. It should be a lot of fun to see how everything shakes out over the next ten years. Go Dawgs!

I don't know if Oxy dominated the 00's.  The Bulldogs won 4 SCIAC titles, 2000, 2002, 2003.  CLU won a couple and so did Oxy.  Hopefully the 2007 playoff game at St John's was an anomaly for the Dawgs.  In 2002 and 2003 they had opportunities to win the playoff games.  Coach always seems to have them ready to play.

As I recall, Redlands played quite well at St. John's.

Speaking of D1, looking at a SI in a dentist office recently I looked through the preseason top 25 teams and only one, TCU, had purple in the uni color scheme.

A Random fact about TCU and purple uniforms,  Current TCU head coach Garry Pattterson was the defensive coordinator at Cal Lutheran under Head Coach Bob Shoup in the late 80's.

Third time should be a charm for the Kingsmen against Linfield.

Enjoy the games.

umhb2001

I believe I read correctly in the Killeen paper that one of the coaches for Redlands used to be the offensive coordinator at TLU. Is that correct?
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

RFB...a great deal of work went into that post. My eyebrows, too, went up when you actually called OXY the 2000 decade team. OxyBob will smile at that.
One minute detail you forgot (?) to put in your post is that all those SCIAC champs ended their season while visiting LINFIELD.
But, that's OK, UMHB has been there, done that, so it wasn't really relevant.   8-)

Stating the obvious. Not too many catches to be had when you run the ball 49 times for 300 yards and 4 touchdowns ... right?

I sense nervousness - All of the Linfielders are coming out of the woodworks and getting defensive ... RATTLED, party of 10, your table is ready!

He must have been dropping someone on the other side of the field when #4 was in the endzone 4 times in the last 2 games ...
So he was in the end zone 4 times in the last two games. If memory serves, CLU lost both of those games. In the 4 recent meetings, 3 Linfield wins. Solutes are 0 for Oregon. The one win for CLU, your #4 didn't score. Just the facts m'am.

Indeed DOC. The SCIAC has met an early death at the hands of Linfield for a long time. Linfield is the model program that all SCIAC schools should be trying to emulate. Having said that it is time for that streak to end this Saturday. Go Lu!

My biggest concern for Saturday's game in McMinnville is the weather. The forecast calls for a high of 4 and rain showers after rain and snow on Friday. Cal Lutheran were pretty good mudders against Oxy, but who knows?
