So anybody watch the Oxy-Pacific game?  I'm curious how Pacific limited Oxy to 6 points.

Eyewitness report from Eagle Rock:

Pacific 27, Oxy 6

Dull, lethargic game. Nice crowd. Good support by the visitors.

Oxy had the ball inside the 10-yard line four times and only scored 6 points.

1st quarter, 3rd-and-1 at the 2 -- bad snap, fumble recovered, field goal missed.
3rd quarter, 3rd-and-goal at the 3 -- keeper by Tommy Edwards for TD, extra point missed.
4th quarter, 4th-and-goal at the 3 -- bad snap, fumble lost.
4th quarter, 2nd-and-2 at the 7 -- interception, touchback.

Oxy rushed the ball 21 times for -4 net yards. Edwards was 31-for-48 for 329 yards, 2 INTs. Sam Stekol had 10 cathces for 144 yds.

For Pacific, QB P.J. Minaya filled in nicely for injured T.C. Campbell. Minaya was 17-for-31 for 207 yards, a TD, and one INT. He also rushed for 10 yards.

Tons of penalties by both teams: 11 for 129 yds for Pacific, and 8 for 98 yds for Oxy.

Good win for Pacific. Very disappointing performance by Oxy.

Note to Oxy PA announcer: Just because the visiting team does something well, it doesn't mean you have to mumble into the mike. "First down for the Tigers!" vs. "First down for the Boxers" mumblemumblemumble.

P.S. Get well soon, Pacific WR Jordan Fukumoto, who left the game in the 2nd quarter in an ambulance with a leg injury.

Bad news for Pacific--he's a big part of their offense.  Thanks for report Bob--turnovers really killed Oxy.  And I'm absolutely shocked by the lack of a running game by Oxy against Pacific.

Fear the Poet

heres the report from Whittier. A defensive struggle :)

http://www.wcpoets.com/sports/fball/2012-13/releases/20120909o4k313

The Poets came out cold and fell behind early, but kept their composure and came all the way back. The game was in question until the very end. The Poet offense is solid with QB, Chris Lopez. Osby is a bruising RB and the recievers are solid with Fooks,Kimble and Vince Evans.

The defense has some work to do, but they played hard for 4 quarters. There are many things to be happy about and I think the Poets will be ok.

Great to be out there again.

On a side note, I ran into WCAlum17 after the game. Great to see him and his lovely bride. Also very glad to hear he is already teaching and coaching at the high school level.

Hi All,
Hope everyone had a weekend filled with love, prosperity and football.  Whittier still looks good.  Like FTP said came out cold.  Scored two TD's in the last 2 mins before half (shows you how potent the offense can be).  Other than that consistent play on both sides. Still have a positive outlook on the season.

Rest of SCIAC looks good as well.  OxyBob: Is Pacific that good or Oxy that bad? (2 questions in one)

Poets have a bye then off to the great northwest to handle the loggers and their signature cover three....
Good week to yall

Hmmm, how do I answer that? All I know about Pacific is that coming into the game they were 1-18 since they took up football in 2010. As for Oxy, the highlights of the game were two runs by Shay Mueller, the son of former Oxy and Oakland raiders RB Vance Mueller.

According to the stats, Mueller also led the team in tackles.

Rest of SCIAC looks good as well.

How does Redlands being dominated by NCC look good as well?

Yeah I thought the comment was a little odd, seeing as the SCIAC was 2-5 last weekend....

serious question, coming off the Poets loss to WW, I was wondering what the word of mouth was on WW coming in. Are they supposed to be strong team this year? Ive been away for a few years and dont yet have a grip on the lay of the land.

thanks

Whittier is a bad program, has been for a long time. Whitworth should have beat them, no surprise here. As far as Redlands goes, they got dominated by a top ten team. They split the series with NCC so to me if was a success in scheduling them.

I hope they renew with them as you need to play the best to elevate your program. One can only hope that Linfield appears on the schedule again but I won't hold my breath. Redlands should be okay, this week at home against PLU will say a lot about what type of team the Dawgs have this year. We'll see...

This was a Whitworth team that was supposed to be a year older, and therefore a little more consistent and a little less mistake prone. Over the last couple of years Whitworth has done a couple things well. Namely, a strong running game and a solid turnover margin. It keeps em in most games and besides the fact that they've always had the talent, it generally leads to a winning record and a finish at or near the top of the conference. The problems that they've had this year are ones that they've also struggled with the last few years and that's inconsistent QB play (basically ever since Joel Clark left the Pirates have been platooning QB's like an Urban Meyer fantasy) and an undersized defensive front 7. The latter, in my opinion, leads to real spotty D-line and linebacker play. They'll look great putting pressure on one play and then the next get 6 guys locked up by O-lineman and RB's, giving up a big gain.

Peterson has been banged up this year, which limited the playbook against Scholastica. I feel like since Tully doesn't have the option of waiting for Joel Clark's kids to join the team, he's doing everything he can to keep Peterson on the field. He's a very athletic kid, who brings with him the threat to run. Personally, I'm a McCune fan as long as Peterson's arm is limited. I think he lets the Pirates open up the playbook a little more and you saw that in the Whittier game.

I think the troubles on defense could be attributed to Whittier's talent at the skill positions. A good QB, and some talented RB's/WR's were a handful. Whittier's problem is that the rest of their team is pretty bad. But the offense should be good enough to win them more than a couple SCIAC games. Outside of CLU and Redlands, who will beat them? Unless La Verne has really improved under the 2nd year head coach...

thanks again and best of luck to WW the rest of the way.

whittiers d looks pretty bad, the o has some good skill players but they always seem to disappear against good defenses
