You missed commenting on this:  "Redell, 71, was hired in May to replace Dave Widolff,"

After the accusations leveled at Oxy's former coach it was Dave, No Save.

Saturday's SCIAC schedule:
Oxy (1-4, 1-2 SCIAC) @ Cal Lutheran (4-1, 3-0) 1:00 p.m.
Whittier (2-3, 1-2) @ Claremont (0-5, 0-3) 1:00 p.m.
Pomona (0-5, 0-3) @ La Verne (2-3, 2-1) 1:00 p.m.

Nonconference:
Chapman (4-1) @ Redlands (2-3) 7:00 p.m.

Oxy is averaging only 29 yards rushing per game, which is 237th out of 239 D-III teams. On the other hand, the Tigers average 307 yards passing per game, which is 19th best in D-III. CLU is way too strong and too deep for Oxy. The Kingsmen will roll.

Whittier is averaging 523 yds total offense per game. The Poets have too much going for them on offense for Claremont. Win for WC.

La Verne will get the win at home against Pomona.

Chapman's 4 wins are against teams with a combined record of 3-17. The Panthers have played one team with a winning record -- Whitworth -- and lost. Redlands will win at home.

Oxy (1-4, 1-2 SCIAC) @ Cal Lutheran (4-1, 3-0) 1:00 p.m.

-Cal Lu by 30

Whittier (2-3, 1-2) @ Claremont (0-5, 0-3) 1:00 p.m.

-Poets never make things easy, but should have plenty to put the Stags away. By the way, Poets have lost to CMS 9 straight years.

Pomona (0-5, 0-3) @ La Verne (2-3, 2-1) 1:00 p.m.

-I think LaVerne will be too physical for Sagehens and win comfortably

Chapman (4-1) @ Redlands (2-3) 7:00 p.m.

-Chapman is better than Bob gives them credit for, but I have to agree with the prediction of a Redlands victory in what I think will be a tight one.

OxyBob:

PLEASE NOTE, UNDER FURTHER REVIEW...
One of Chapman's opponents three wins came from the WC/PSU contest (someone had to win), clouding the three wins even more.
Makes your case even stronger.

Good luck this weekend!

Cheers,

Let's all spread a little love.

Eyewitness report from Thousand Oaks:

Cal Lutheran 56 Oxy 7

Overcast day, comfortable weather, packed stadium on CLU homecoming.

Oxy played well for one quarter. It was 7-7 starting the second quarter, and then the Cal Lutheran onslaught began. Oxy could not get to Zach Shultis, they could not stop Daniel Azhocar and Romello Goodman, they could not contain Vincent Minor, and they could not cover Eric Rogers. It was 35-7 at the half, and CLU coasted home from there.

Note to Cal Lutheran: You have a really good team. There's really no need to get multiple stupid unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for ridiculous showboating like dunking the ball over the goal post after a score. Pretend like you've scored a touchdown before and hand the ball back to the ref. Act like a champ.

The first dunk was by our star receiver who screwed up the dunk on  a TD that was called back on a holding penalty. With the unsportsmanlike conduct it was suddenly 2nd & 41. The penalties were a bit extreme-and unusual. I believe that Coach is pretty upset.  9 minutes into the 3rd was mass substitution time. The kid got over a quarter of play in from the third quarter to the fourth. The last 5 minutes of the game was watching the bleachers emptying out.

Got a funny story- they were going to let the kid pass, figuring he would get a TD based on the look that the defense gave and the adjustment that he would make. He saw the look, got excited and called the wrong audible. So the pass fell INC with nobody within 10 yards. So he has his first college blown play!!!!!!

Fear the Poet

The Poets get back .500 against The Stags. The streak is over for LR when he was called for his first penalty this season. A personal foul unfortunately, but dude was going for the knees and LR decided to give him a love tap that was frowned upon by the officials. He prides himself in playing clean but I think ill give him a pass on this one :)

Huge gut check for the Poets against powerhouse Cal Lu on Saturday. Im hopeful it wont be the same ol against Cal Lu this time. I mentioned to LR some comments on this here board as it relates to Whittier quitting when it gets tough and how Cal Lu loves to drop 50 on the Poets.

Now is Whittier's time to start changing the culture of Poet football.

Im excited for Saturday

Go Poets!

As a former SID, I was amused by the headline about the CLU-Oxy game on the Occidental website: "Tigers hang with No. 8 Cal Lu in first quarter."

One more road game against the poets, eh? Then home for Chapman and La Verne. . .  One game at a time. Go Kingsmen!!!!!

One game at a time.

If the Kingsmen give 110%, come to play, bring their "A" game, and play within themselves, then they will be able to take it to the next level. Still, CLU must step it up, turn it up a notch, and stay focused, so they can show that they just want it more. So far this season CLU has made a statement and sent a message that they know how to win. Whittier is a must-win game because CLU controls its own destiny, and if the Kingsmen execute, demonstrate great athleticism, make game-saving tackles, and overcome adversity, then they won't beat themselves. After all, the final score is the only statistic that matters.
