Fear the Poet

Offense is for real but just couldn't get past the penalties and turnovers. Cal Lu is a talented bunch and they tried to keep us in It with their own mistakes. Whittier did not quit. Baby steps

Ftp , this is by far the best whittier team in years . they never quit ,offense is good, this team has alot of upside and the new coach has them going in the right direction.(pass d by both teams needs a ton of work), a little zone for CLU may go along way.The offense looked a little sluggish today, but they do have a ton of weapons to use .

I agree. This is not the same Whittier of old. But, they need to be coached on self control as they lose too many big gaines due to penalties. I have watched the Poets in person and on the web. They are laying a good fountaition for the future.

As far as Cal Lu goes, they too need to be coached on self control. I would like to see them get past the first couple of rounds in the playoffs, but to do so, the penalties need to be minimized, as good teams will capitalize and hurt Cal Lu. They are a good team that only shoots themself in the foot with the meaningless penalties. The same can be said about Chapman....the penalties cost them the Whitworth game, and have kept their opponents in games that should have been blow-outs.

Oh well, I can dream, right?

If OxyBob (note spelling) says Chapman is not in the SCIAC, believe it...as OxyBob's word is the gospel!
I guess his word overrides the vote of the SCIAC Presidents whether Chapman will ever be accepted to
join the SCIAC. Something somewhere happened to turn him off regardiing Chapman. I can't figure it out, but in the meantime, to avoid his wrath, please do not refer to Chapman as a member of the SCIAC.

OxyBob won't read this board any more this year so I can spill the beans, to only you, dahlby, you gotta swear not to repeat, except to your bestest buddy.
OxyBob actually went to Chapman as a young lad because he wanted to see the world and the U.S. Navy was not not an option so the Floating Campus sounded great.  :)Alas, some minority of upperclassmen (you know how some always can ruin It for others) threw a blanket over him while in Algiers and placed him in a dingy tied to the Floating Campus by a mere piece of hemp rope left over from their foray into the marketplace.
Alack, OB was marooned.
His parents came to his rescue and enrolled him in Occidental where he was happily ever after.

Plus K.great read.

Not that I don't believe you, but I find it very hard to believe that OxyBob would let anyone speak on his behalf.
Also, only having communicated with OB a few times, I can still speculate that being tied up in an Algerian dingy that
OB would have only gotten stronger, and that was the foundation to his current disposition on these boards. I have always
respected (although not always agreeing) his factual based writings. Except, of course, his feelings about Chapman's Stadium.

If, on the other hand, you have been secretly communicated with OB, and that he has relayed on to you his retirement for this year, that is a  crying shame. But, on second review, I can't believe that he would retire with only 2 games left. It leads me to believe that Oxy's uncharacteristic losing record has put him in to a state of mourning. OB's a fighter, he would not leave the board over a simple few losses.

I do hope his absence is only temporary. I will continue to search for his writings as I read the posts on these boards.
Please give OB my regards, but don't tell him I miss him already. Also, tell him my wife said hello!

Oxy 31 Pomona 27

The Tigers prevailed in a very evenly-matched game. Oxy led 21-7 at halftime, and 24-14 after 3 quarters, but Pomona got 2 TD passes from Luke Ferguson to do-it-all Duncan Hussey, and the Sagehens led 27-24 with 2:40 to go. Tommy Edwards then led Oxy down the field for the winning score -- a 9-yard rush by Edwards, 2 completions to Sam Stekol, 2 completions to Matt Tuckness, a one-handed catch by Stekol, and a one-yard run by Kwame Do, his second rushing TD of the game.

For Oxy, Edwards was 33-for-48 for 372 yards and rushed for 2 TDs, Stekol had 12 catches for 176 yards, Tuckness had 9 catches for 83 yards.

For Pomona, Ferguson was 19-for-37 for 319 yards, 3 TDs, and one INT, Hussey caught 13 for 218 yards and 3 TDs, including a 78-yarder, and Brett Harper rushed 24 times for 136 yards, including a 42-yard TD run. Pomona's star RB Luke Sweeney DNP due to injury.

Total offense: Oxy 472, Pomona 454.

Not really. What cost Chapman against Whitworth is the Pirates have a winning record. Chapman is 5-2 and will complete its season 6-3, not having beaten one team with a winning record, a Chapman specialty. Too bad La Sierra doesn't field a football team, or Chapman would be there in 1 microsecond.

Welcome back OB...I still think you were never gone!

Congrads to your Tigers for their resounding victory ov La Sierra, oops I mean Pomona-Pitzer.
Can't argue that Chapman doesn't have a weak schedule, but I have to correct you regarding the Whitworth game.
We couldn't "finish" what we started. That has happened quite a bit this year, get big lead, then let up, and then struggle
to win. It has happened in most of our wins. But, the guys are trying and the coaches are giving it their all. As a person who
who has been involved with the program since its inception, that is all I can ask or hope for. Just like you with Oxy. We all can just play the hand we are dealt when it comes to scheduling.

Here is a little test for you. Get it right and I will throw a lunch in with your VIP tour. I will even get one of our coaches
to join us.

Q: Would you rather:
A- Have a weak schedule and a winning record.
B- Have a weak schedule and a losing record.

Cheers! Can't wait for Oxy vs. Chapman in basketball. I was sorry to see that your Women's coach has moved on. She was real impressive!

While I agree CLUs penalties are bad, the officiating in the sciac is terrible. Alot of the flags that the refs threw yesterday on both teams really didnt nee d to be tossed.I just seems like the sciac refs want to be way to much a part of the game.I just wish they would let the teams play and get out of the way, sometimes the best call is no call.

Especially that interception that was taken away :)

FtP,that flag was legit. It wasnt thrown on the covering db but on #9 who just flat out gave a wr on the opposite  side a huge cheap shot. That was a personel foul that needed to be called.

#3 may be coming back this week. . . . #7 has done a helluva job in relief. Those two senior QBs have done  tremendous jobs this year
