Jack,

The teams are part of the school. The student athletes are part of the school . When you disrespect the efforts made by these student athletes, you are in essence disrespecting the schools.  Why not show a little respect for the efforts the student athletes make?

I hear what you are saying, but your choice of words lack, just like the level of competition you claim the SCIAC has.

Fair enough, obviously a poor choice of words on my part.  I was one of those student-athletes and believe me, I have been called much worse at certain SCIAC schools.  Thats all I have to say about it.  Moving on...

I want to see nobody with purple in their uniforms in the first round. Pat, while  CLUs  defense is struggling this year Whittier has some weapons.Mr. Fooks can play and their freshman qb throws a decent ball .

Rivera was Trib Player of the Year last year. CLU wanted him as a safety. Whittier guaranteed him to play QB.

I also read a coaches blog this morning where the coach totally blasts Whittier and their fans

Ben McEnroe comes off like a complete jerk in that blog of his. I can't believe CLU AD Dan Kuntz allows that drivel.

Oh, and Coach McEnroe, it's the University of La Verne, which is in the City of La Verne. Always has been. The Laverne De Fazio picture on your blog is really lame. La Verne. Laverne & Shirley. Get it? Gee, how original.

FWIW I found that blog you were talking about.

That is the CLU coach's blog. Great recruiting tool. Coach was complaining about drunken tailgaters and a lousy setting at Whittier. When we went to CIF playoffs there a couple of years ago, the stadium was even worse. It IS a lousy setting. I would avoid that stadium at all costs. And for a homecoming- embarrassing. . . . I dont think there was a single person there who was not in the "parade"

And then coach made some light hearted comments about La Verne. Says he knows the coach.

Sounds like you guys just don't like Coach MacEnroe. The only person here that I know of that ever took classes at La Verne was me and I am not offended at all.  So- dont worry about protecting my delicate feelings, Perhaps a little envy and a little bitterness about getting thumped/spanked  four years in a row is behind your rancor. A few shots of Russian Standard vodka can help you overcome these feelings. I would be happy to help

Ben Blog:
"We are all playing with some backups"
Hmmmmm... could that be why Whittier scored so much?
Hmmmmm... could Ben be trying to secret something away for a future match up in McMinnville?

Nope. He's got his hands full of with a quarterback controversy.

Fear the Poet

I've always been a huge Mac supporter but felt he stooped to the very level that he complains about. I don't doubt what he said. I'm sure some knuckleheads did that. I just think he is better than that and didn't need to go there.

Just my opinion. I was surprised and disappointed by his comments.

If the coach had a problem during the game he should have notified Rock, the basketball coach, who is on the visitor's sideline/end zone and is in charge of security/game mangement at the game. He could have addressed it immediately, as he is stationed on the visitor's sideline.
If he chose to wait to complain after the game, then he should notify WC administration/AD and/or the SCIAC administration.

The vast MAJORITY of the fans tailgating are very respectful and come to watch the game. There are 2 or 3 pickups loaded with students standing and drinking in the truck bed that are rowdy. I have met many people back in that tailgating area, including some very nice D3 posters. A few rotton apples spoil for everyone else.

WC is trying to manage the situation by checking id's and issuing wristbands to those over 21, but I guess that isn't working out so well.

While we are on this topic, I need to send a POSITIVE shout-out to the Oxy fans  at the last Chapman game, who told some rowdy Oxy fans using language in poor taste to "shut-up". It worked...immediately to say the least!

I was at the CLU-Linfield game. As the Wildcats were walking from the locker room to the field, a couple of McEnroe's ex-players were standing there with some other fans calling the Linfield players f*ggots and p*ssies. This was, as McEnroe puts it,"within earshot of large groups of families and young kids entering the game." I went over and asked them if that was how they were taught to greet their guests. Stunned at being challenged, they scattered like cockroaches. Put that in your blog, coach.

Watch your mouths this Saturday, La Verne fans. Rabbit Ears McEnroe will be listening.

Really guys, it's just a blog with alot of random thoughts and opinons. Fans will do what they will  do and coach Mac chose not to involve the school admin. He puts what he loves , likes and hates about each game. This must have stood out to him ,what's the big deal. This blog is probably read only by CLu fans and OB and the CLU faithful more than likely agree.

Gray fox, give him time, he is new to the board and will get the hang of it.It takes some time understand everybody on here.He will find out that most people on this board know their stuff, are sharp witted and mean no harm( except OB) ;D

Thats funny that when McEnroe gets challenged by a team he supposed to slaughter he has to blog about the rough conditions and the disrespect of the fans.  I cannot recall the countless number of times i was called a "white trash POS" by some faithful Lu alums (all over the age of 75). It what makes the atmosphere. Now im not promoting profanity amongst children or anything but heckling is what makes you hate or love to play people.  Nothing was worse than being backed up in the west endzone of the Runner with all the frat boys yelling racial slurs and profanity while you are trying to hear a cadence.  Anyways... bottom line is that is football.  If McEnroe is worried about drunk tailgaters and a 3 o'clock game time then he should not have any aspirations about coaching at the next level.  All in all it was great to see a game that was within 14 pts for a while from the poets.  Without the 2 turnovers on the first three drives that led to 21 Lu pts. Whittier is within a field goal of upsetting the 8th team in the nation.
Bringin' HOME the Shoes this week OB!!

WCAlum:
Interesting that you should mention Redlands. The couches are now gone and the fence has been moved further back.
But, the drunks, oops, I mean the "happy rooters", are still there but can't be heard as much. Hats off to the Redlands'
AD for finally making the change.
