Last year was actually kind of a suprising bracket.  I think they had to fly two teams (one to MHB last year and one to McMinnville).   Redlands was lower ranked than CLU so they shipped them to a #1 and rewarded CLU's higher ranking by sending them to a lesser ranked Linfield team ;)  (or the rewarded MHB with Redlands, actually).  This year, assuming things hold up AND PLU actually gets in, they'd be inclined to send a relatively low ranked team in PLU to a #1 team at Linfield and not have to pay for a plane flight.  They might not do that but that's the rationale for why they could and in the past have......

The second most obvious thing to with the Lutes (if they make the field), is send them to Thousand Oaks. Linfield should host a true 8th seed like Lake Forest or Northwestern (Minn.) and await the Kingsmen/Lutes winner.

But that possible CLU/PLU game is also a rematch from this season - so what have you really avoided there?  And it means that the NCAA is playing to fly someone else to Linfield and UMHB.

The NCAA did seem to open the purse strings a bit last year.  But if other years are an indication, CLU to UMHB (with PLU at Linfield) or CLU to Linfield for round one seems likely.

Just wanted to add: when I say 'what have you really avoided' - I'm talking about the NCAA avoiding first round rematches.  Lutes to CLU doesn't really do that (though better than a conference foe).

I understand the CLU/SCIAC perspective that a top-ten team deserves a home game.  Regardless of other 'travel island' teams and penny pinching, the Kingsmen should not be sent to a top-five team in round one.  That's what should be avoided.  That's weak.

I've got an idea! Why doesn't the Lutheran organization underwrite sending the solutes to UMHB and the nolutes to Oshkosh and incur NCAA favor?

Yeah, I'm well aware of what our existence has come down to the last few years...beat every SCIAC opponent and lose to Linfield twice a year.

Wah wah wah. In 2005, Oxy was 9-0. Sent to Linfield. In 2006, Oxy was 9-0. Sent to Whitworth. In 2008, Oxy was 9-0. Sent to Willamette.

These discussions have kept the D3 boards alive for years.

And yet no one ever seems to get it.

those silly "bean-counters"

Not the bean counters, the fans who think that being ranked in the Top 10 in the d3football.com poll entitles them to a home game, or that playing and losing to Linfield impresses the selection committee.

Well, i do have to give CLU some credit for answering the phone calls from the catdome..  :'( It can only help their SOS.. which looks like a good thing to do IF PLU get to go dancing this year? :-*

Hey OB, desertcat is right.CLU could play an easier pre-season schedule and go 9-0. THey like to play the best teams they can. While linfield owns us at this time ,the games are getting more competetive.Last year a strong argument could be made for a CLU home game and this season is yet to be seen,I dont feel entitled just a little slighted.( okay ALOT slighted)

hey LUTE,  last years home game was your own fault (lack of security  for the NCAA gate ) If i remember it right ? :' :-[
