I haven't seen any evidence that there's a difference between nine and 10 games. For the SCIAC, it's a conference rule. They're the only one that still has one but when we started in the late '90s there were a few more conferences that played just nine games (CCIW, MIAA come to mind).

In the NWC, it's permitted to play 10 games but pretty expensive, so most schools don't.
The only thing I would say is that playing more games allows you, potentially to schedule more out of coference teams that could raise your SOS and chance of having more impressive wins against regionally ranked oponents which could give you an edge over a 9 game school.  As for the NWC--I notice Wesley has traveled to the West to play non-D3 schools (menlo, southern oregon...).  Would be great to see one of the more competitive NWC teams pick them up as a 10th game.....

edit:  I thought they played SOU a few years back but didn't find it in the past schedules....am I making this up or am I thinking of a different team?

answer to my own question:  Mary Hardin Baylor played SOU a few times.

Based on what I've heard from practice, Shultis is still the starting QB but Ramay is ready to go. No indications as to how much he'll play.

Was it his throwing thumb that was broken?

CLU's 4-year contract with Linfield ends in 2013 and the word is they're in talks with UW-Whitewater for a home and home 2-year deal beginning in 2014. Be interesting to see if they can make it happen.
Is this the payoff for the Danny Jones trade? :o

Glad to see Coach Mac's blog post made it the 100,000,000,000,000,000 most visited blog on the internet that week, and got everyone's turtlenecks ruffled. I am sure he hates every minute of writing that Blog. They would hire OB to write a blog for Oxy, but his short term memory only allows him to write about the early to mid 2000's.

Whittier is Whittier because they are Whittier.

Just got back from Rolland Stadium. I was as disappointed as you can be when scoring 59 points and winning by 25 points. Our interior defense continues to be a concern as we gave up 300+ yards to....a LAVERNE RUNNING BACK! We also had our fair share of personal fouls which continues to plague us.

Coach Ben complains about them every week but they continue to happen. As far as I'm concerned, it's on him. Zero consequences leads to zero accountability.

I know we were on cruise control after a 38-0 first half but just once I'd like to see 60 minutes of complete football.

I'm frustrated....

Comments on Matthew Biggers' performance vs. CLU: He's a fine back, but note that he carried the ball nine times for 50 yards in the first half when the Kingsmen built up a 31-0 lead, and had 25 carries for 254 in the second half when the coaches were substituting freely (if you don't believe that, check the tackling chart and the play-by-play).

This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

Whittier 61 Oxy 30

Whittier racked up 561 yards in total offense as the Poets rolled over the Tigers. Oxy got off to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter, but 5 miscues (3 fumbles, 1 INT, and a blocked punt) led to 4 Whittier scores. Congratulations to WC and especially No. 63 for winning back The Shoes. Enjoy looking at them in your display case while you can because they're coming back to Oxy next year.

For Whittier, Kimble Tillman was the star of the game with 8 catches for 142 yards and 3 TDs, a 96-yard kickoff return, and a 3-yard TD pass to Dameron Fooks. Steven Rivera was 31-for-45 for 380 yards passing and 6 TDs. Fooks caught 12 for 138 yards and 4 TDs. Rufus Osby rushed for 115 yards on 14 carries, including a 50-yard TD run.

For Oxy, Tommy Edwards was 33-for-50 for 444 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT.  Matt Tuckness caught 13 for 206 yards and a TD, and Kwame Do had 10 catches for 129 yards and 2 TDs.

Whittier is 4-4 and can achieve its first winning season since 1998 if the Poets beat Redlands at home next week. Note: Whittier is 0-4 at home this season. Oxy is 2-6 and concludes its disappointing season at La Verne.

Speaking of La Verne, the Leopards lost to Cal Lutheran 59-34. Matthew Biggers had a fantastic performance: 34 carries for 308 yards and 3 TDs, including a 63-yarder, and 3 catches for 18 yards. The CLU fans were effusive with their compliments:

The Top-25 wrap on the front page has Cal Lu clinching the SCIAC automatic bid. I'm pretty sure Chapman would vehemently disagree.

You're a piece of work, Bob  :). We're too busy trying to figure out how to be national contenders. We don't have time to gloat over a RB running up 2nd half stats.

I watched the Cal Lu game and will not make any excuse for the 300+ rushing yards by Biggers and say only one thing- that dude can flat out run.  I have no clue how big he is but he runs like he is 6'2" 220lbs.  The CLU defense didn't know what hit them and if that happens again next week they could be in real trouble.  On the flip-side, CLU's offense moved the ball without issue but there is no way they can afford to get in a shootout with Chapman (or Linfield in the first-round).
