I 'm waiting for OxyBob's reply.

Not a surprise. Toto, I've a feeling we're not at Oaks Christian anymore.

The official Oxy announcement.

His time at and after Oxy, make him one of the school's most recognizable figures. When it comes to the Mount Rushmore of Occidental College football, Redell is next to the likes of Jack Kemp, Jim Mora, Vance Mueller and Andy Collins as one of Oxy's greatest and most prominent football people. In October, Redell was inducted into the Occidental College Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the inaugural class.

What a freaking slap in the face to Dale Widolff.  You know, the guy that actually made Oxy football relevant.  The S.I.D. can slobber all over the guy that quit on them after one season without running down the guy who gave 30 years of his life to that program. What a freaking joke.

Occidental should be embarrassed by that press release and the whole situation surrounding the departure of DW and the hiring of BR. What a joke indeed!

Yes, my school's Athletic dept. should be embrassed about this. I stopped donating and attending games (not just football) for their direction and choice of "trying" to take my program in a different direction. How in the world would one expect a 70 yr old former retiree to lead a fast pace college working environment (i.e recruiting, staying late hours for video review, setting a budegt, picking the proper staff, finding ways to better serve the student and then athlete second, find ways to meet the AD's needs and request, etc...). It has been fustrating to hear that an AD would have such disrespect and lack of understanding. Granted what was done by Coach W was wrong, but, how could this ultimately lead to a dismisal from a program in which you pumped your life, soul and full care about the student body and student athlete.

It is a crying shame what has happened to the Oxy football program. I had always looked at Oxy as one of the best blends of
academics and athletics in the SCIAC. It was always a fine example. It will probably take a new coach some time to bring the program back to what it was. Some other schools will use what has happened when recruiting to hype their own program.

I do wish the incoming coach the best of luck.

PS, as someone who appreciates the value of a good SID, that Oxy SID was probably told what to write in the "official release".

The official Oxy announcement.

QuoteOccidental College athletic director Jaime Hoffman and President Dr. Jonathan Veitch asked Redell to spearhead a committee that will devise a strategic plan for Occidental athletics.

If the strategic plan includes taking Oxy football back to the days of John Brooks Slaughter, then they are already well on their way.

Well, hold on here. Remember that they needed to make a hire in May, and at that point, options are few. The storied alumnus who lives in the area is a reasonable pick for one year.

Or they could have promoted the OC, who'd already twice served as interim HC, and who's a disciple of the winningest coach in Oxy history. Or they could have kept the winningest coach in Oxy history.
