olddog,
Many thanks for your UR training reports (I'm likely to be an even older Bulldog than you). Who's the frontrunner for
starting QB? I'd like to see Alex Bridgford, who had a ton of CIF Playoff experience at Mission Viejo High, given a shot. All the Best!

Hemmingway,

No problem, it is hard to tell because they are not in their uniform numbers..so I am going from memory on how they looked last year

Avila, had a good spring...in the mix, can run and throw...pleasant surprise...has skills to put pressure on D.
Bridgeford is coming off shoulder surgery, got better as spring went along, getting reps but not in the lead, strong arm, would be surprised it he starts early
PLU transfer, one of the new kids is supposed to be a transfer from PLU...not sure, too early to judge, has skills and learning UR offense
King, Sr, Coaches trust him...but with one year left in program tough to start if sophs are equal, will get game reps at some point
Samson, in the mix for sure, a gamer, scrapper, can run and throw...I think he will get game reps at some point. Type of guys that finds way to move the O

I could see two or maybe three kids getting game reps. In general they all look like they took their summer serious. It is still early in the process to even declare the first two from what I have seen.

olddog,
Appreciated your terrific report on our QB Dogs!
Too bad
Bridgeford had serious injury as he's got both the size and experience under high pressure.
If you hear the name and height of PLU transfer, please pass it along. Also, any clues for Crisanty's replacement----I'll miss his resolute play as much as Hurst's and Garcia's.

Hemingway,

Your welcome

If I hear more on the PLU kid I will let you know. The RB spot looks pretty good. The frosh Tanquery who ran pretty well last season looks tough and bigger. The other back ups look one year improved and Bobby Brown is back from a bad ankle, he is the forgotten one.... He will line up in the backfield and the slot spot as well. I think UR will be fine at RB and WR, not seeing the FB used much lately. Garcia (LB)  will be missed but they had four or five pretty good athletes at backer... and the d line is back along with a frosh d tackle played a lot until got hurt week 2. The two inside guys are around 260 and one DE is 235 and the other 225...They will cause issues for the other teams this year...
DB have some athletes, just need to put it together.

If the QB and OL come around this team will be better than last year....wish we played a cupcake first.. Mary Hardin, what a test

Great news that Bobby Brown is ready to go again and Tanquery looks promising. Obviously, replacing the firepower generated by the leadership of All-SCIAC's Peter Kinney and Chad Hurst is going to be a serious challenge. I'm a bit more confident that our D squad will be able to repeat their strong endeavors of recent years.

What a tough road the first month. Not only facing two pre-conference top 10 teams, but also much-improved Oxy led by All-SCIAC QB Tommy Edwards, so I hope the Bulldogs aren't too discombobulated when we battle the exceptionally formidable Kingsmen @ Thousand Oaks.

Muchas gracias, for another thorough report on UR's training and your observations about our prospects.

At least the heat of Thousand Oaks will not bother Redlands.
I wonder if the solutes have thought of night games like Redlands does now the new stadium was broken in by LINFIELD.

Hemingway13

 D O.C.,
By mid-October, Thousand Oaks might be quite pleasant if there's a breeze coming from the Pacific!   Seriously, all West region D3 colleges should be proud how the Lindfield/Cal Lutheran rivalry this decade has become one of the premier matchups in the country, thus enhancing respect for our region's football teams overall.
Your upcoming home game on September 21 should be another "must see" given that you're ranked the #4 and #18 teams, according to D3football.com, so good luck to your Wildcats.

Naturally, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that Redlands earns the privilege of a playoff game against Lindfield this season!
Cheers!

2 of our 4 home games this year are night games (7:00). The 2 day games are PLU (needs to be a day game so the Lutes can fly home on the same day) and our homecoming game (too many campus events going on before and after the game).

Made it by for today's scrimmage a little late but I liked what I saw. Today was more of figuring out who the reserves and d squad kids will be, but in general the O line  looked a little better than I thought they would. Still a ways to go but it looks like some kids put the work in this summer. The QB job looks like a battle between the PLU kid, Samson and Bridgford. It will be interesting, they all had some good moments, nothing special about my order. Another nice surprise. Lastly the TE is a monster, looks 10 pounds bigger and ran over a first team backer after a catch one time. In general it was a nice day for the dawgs and us old timers.

olddog,  You are doing us Oldtimers real proud,  braving the August heat to provide so much valuable intelligence!

I'm especially pleased to hear you reckon the O Line is in good shape. Obviously Daryl Anderson is going to be an important factor in the Dawgs' attack with both his pass catching and providing corner blocking for RB sweeps.

Looking forward to your next on the spot report heaps!

Eric Rogers (CLU '13) was released today during the first round of cuts at the Dallas Cowboys facility. Pretty bummed. We're really proud of Eric and he represented Cal Lu and D-III well. I hope he gets another chance with a different team but if not,  he has said he wants to be a police officer. I wish him all the luck in the world.

The best sports guy here in Dallas liked him a lot.  He thought he might get on the practice squad. :)
