The Cru can practice passing every day.
They can throw a bit to keep the patsies from stacking.
But they should keep that decent passing game for third round of the playoffs.
This could be the best running game the coach has had.

Wondering what folks here reckon about the wisdom of UR scheduling extremely tough teams only as the supposedly ideal preparation for conference games. Both of UR's radio commentators are strongly in support of this strategy, but I'm not so sure.

I like it.  As a SCIAC team you're gonna have to win the conference to make the playoffs in almost every year.  Might as well play against playoff caliber teams pre-conference because you aren't gonna see too many once you start in conference games.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see them gun slinging. I just want to see them through enough to keep other teams honest and to be sharp enough to make passes when they need to. Beyond that, I'm always in favor of the hosses up front opening it up for Elijah Hudson. Man's a beast.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I agree, they might as well. Even if Redlands goes 9-0, its playoff feat is sealed with having to play Linfield in the first round. 9-0 with a soft non-conference schedule or 7-2 with a strong non-conference schedule won't change their playoff matchup but it will affect their preparedness.

A) I asked a player yesterday how the injured WR was doing, he did not know but said he was talking on the stretcher and had feeling in all his extremities according to the trainer. So lets pray for him. I do not know if they are practicing due to the bye or just lifting.

B) Coach Maynard told me a couple reasons for scheduling tough non league games and UR will continue to do so. It is obvious to raise the program up you need to play the best, beating a national ranked team in the preseason makes an argument for a wild card birth. Two years ago the upset over NCC to them in the playoffs as a second place team. Last season if they beat PLC (and would have if Hurst plays) would have most likely gotten them in versus PLU as the wild card team. Lastly it helps his recruiting, telling kids to come here and we will play nationally ranked teams on the road is a nice story.
I can tell you the kids are all for it and coaches believe it makes them better than playing cup cake.

c) The game. MHB deserved to win, they out played UR. They are very good and will go deep in the playoff. . MHB is a well skilled team. A lot of their players have D1 skills. Hudson is a stud at RB, but more impressive is his ability to read and get into any hole. He is strong enough to make very hard cuts and runs like a truck. Joy to watch a football player.
I was disappointed in the UR defense. A couple D linemen struggled to get off one on one blocking and the linebackers we taking to long to make their read. This is not an excuse but this was the MLB first game and their stud Griffin Lord (all conference)  dislocated his elbow in practice. So not one returnee started. I agree the 40 front was more effective for UR and I am guessing we will see more of it.

The game, it went how I thought it would, except we gave up too much to the running game. UR could not makes mistakes. UR had a good chance to put 21 on MHB early  and did not get it done to pull off any chance of an upset, I thought the first 20 minutes was the turning point of the game. I think MHB had two other fumbles and MHB radio crew tended to agree. If UR scores early it changes the pressure of the game and forces MHB to throw more. UR did not get it done and MHB did to their credit. Once again MHB fans, you deserved to win, The Cru out played UR clearly. The Cru won the battles up front and had a very impressive linemen.

In conclusion this game was good for UR. The D line will get better getting off their blocks and the linebackers reads and getting off blockers will get better.
The offensive line did not play as well as I hoped. Run blocking was horrible and pass blocking was  so so. I think this was the best D line they will see, but they will get better but never overwhelm anyone. I think Samson look good and will only get better as his blocking improves. He threw some nice balls un extreme pressure and took to many hits.
I think they will play PLU very tough....and give CLU a very tough run for their money this year.

+K for the great post! Very desisive and telling comments.

As I said in a previous post, RU looked so much better than the first time we played. I think that the team is on the right track and hope the community supports them.

Good luck the rest of the way!
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Thanks MHB, I typed that one with out my cheaters on, wow...

Looking forward to following MHB this season as well. I really like the class your team displayed when the young man went down on your sidelines. We play another team that wears purple and they should watch how you guys win with class.

Great job, best of luck ....

Well Kingsman4?
Chiming in this year?

I have not been to Redlands since the solute game a couple of years ago where K4 almost got me jumped by a bunch of drunk dogs during the decisive missed field goal at the end of the game.
The ticket pricing structure is way confusing. Near as I can figure there is a game admission of $7 and then a $10 admission if you want to go party where they actually serve wine and beer on the field (absolutely ZERO Southern Baptist contributions coming in any more?) and 'gourmet' food trucks.
That grass surface is just immaculate.

Nothing to report here ... wasn't able to make it out to camp this year but in talking to Coach Mac, we should be good. Less hype and "big names" then we have had in the past. Hopefully that is a good thing. We will beat Linfield at Linfield this year. I don't have any stats, insight, or any real logic behind that prediction, but it has to happen. Sometime. Hopefully.
