From WC11's pick'em blog:

"Pacific over Occidental (at Pacific): Man, what a sad story this is.  In the not-so-distant past, Occidental was a premiere football program in the Western Region.  They won SCIAC title after SCIAC title, had the greatest NCAA playoff run in SCIAC history (West Regional Finalists in 2004), and were putting QB's into professional leagues.  They were legit.  Then new administration came in and didn't get along with the great Dale Widolff and canned him after 30 years of building a winner.  Two years later, and two head football coaching changes later, and Oxy football is a dumpster fire.  Pacific should slap and eat up the Tigers this weekend.  Just a reminder in how quickly it can all go away.

(509)Rat Says Pacific: If you can go on the road and beat a conference champion...you can beat Occidental. Oxybob has stopped posting, largely because Occidental's sports information dept doesn't give him anything to post. As long as the Pacific defense shows up again, the Boxers will win. "

Say it ain't so, Oxy Bob.

[/Quote] Cat, If you measure how committed LF is to football against any of the SCIAC teams it is not close. I agree more to it than just one game, plus don't you guys play some JV games, how many full time coaches ? , and facilities? I would say LF is more committed than any SCIAC school. Closest we have is CLU, then UR.

I agree that, on average, SCIAC teams aren't nearly committed as Linfield but I've been to the "Catdome" several times and the Cal Lu athletic facilities blow them away.
Cal Lu Class of '93 and season ticket holder for 40 years. My parents were class of '67 and '68 and I grew up on the campus. Go Kingsmen!!!

but facilities don't win championships, the players and coaches do.

What a valiant SCIAC effort up North today with CMS in overtime, and the CLU/PLU battle was 24-24 until late.

Congratulations to the new CLU backfield with Wayne Chapman rushing for 142 yards averaging 10.1 per carry.

CMS QB Sean McKaveney had 156 yards passing and 92 rushing out of their total 307 yards!

Now it's up to Oxy to provide SCIAC another "W" against NWC in Oregon.
Will be watching at Noon time here in Sydney – – – go Tigers!

Oxy "D" looking great----2 INT's in first 4 minutes!  8-)
Oxy leads 10-0.

Oxy was behind only eight points early in the 4th quarter, but then ran out of gas. All the same, they seem quite improved from last season.

Impressed with Soph. RB Kwame Do who racked up a total of 122 ground/air yards.

'Tis UR's turn to experience that good ole-fashioned NWC "hospitality" next week!

67 points and 598 yards allowed.

Next week Oxy plays Austin, which gave up 52 points and 611 yards to East Texas Baptist. Looks like an even match-up.

Spot on, OxyBob.

The Tigers and Austin racked up an equal number of 410 total yards last week:  Oxy had 295 yards passing and 115 yards rushing, while Austin had 344 and 66 respectively.

One of the most difficult games in this week's SCIAC Pick-em list, but I'm sticking with Oxy due to confidence (aka delusion?) that the Tigers' new coaching staff are going to have them well-prepared and highly-motivated for the first home game.

Cheers,

Hem

Any facility that has soccer lines on the field is automatically disqualified in blowing anyone out of the water.

From the new head coach:

Quote"The season's exciting. We have a new system on defense and kind of a new system on offense...To me the keys to victory are: win the turnover battle, win the kicking game and win the fourth quarter. So that's kind of how we're developing."

Oxy -- 3 INTs, 0 fumbles
Pacific -- 2 INTs, 0 fumbles

Oxy -- 1 for 2 FG, 3 for 4 extra points
Pacific -- 2 for 2 FG, 8 for 8 XPs

Fourth quarter -- Pacific 29, Oxy 7

In need of a locksmith and a new set of keys.
