For some fans, being pessimistic helps alleviate the stress after a close loss, many know that the game may wound up being close, but in the favor of Linfield. So, assuming the worst only makes it easier to vent later.

Recognizing youth versus veterans is not pessimism, it's being realistic.  Best case scenario was CLU losing by 3 TDs.  That didn't happen.  Now time to focus on the SCIAC

Oxy beat Austin 35-25. Tommy Edwards was 27-for-49 passing for 293 yards and 3 TDs. Sam Stekol caught 13 passes for 163 yards and 2 TDs, and Kwame Do rushed for 129 yards on 23 carries, including a 62-yard TD run. Austin helped out a lot. The Kangaroos fumbled 7 times and lost 4 of them.

New head coach Doug Semones earned his first victory at Oxy. With another win Semones will pass Bruce Allen and tie legendary head coach Bill Redell, who Semones replaced, for 10th on the Tigers' all-time coaching list.

The most exciting development in Cal Lu football this week... extending the visitor bleachers to be full length of the field.  Nice little upgrade.

"Will they be done for the Redlands game?"

Olddog,
Do you reckon UR would be able to fill the longer CLU stands?  We used to consider Whittier and Oxy prohibitively long treks! ;)

Btw, are you sticking with Sampson to QB Oxy game?

Cheers,

Just based on the pics I saw I'm guessing they'll be done unless of course it's one of those things where you build it in 4 days and then wait 4 weeks for an inspection.

They're temporary bleachers. We're not able to install permanent-type stands due to parking limitations.
Cal Lu Class of '93 and season ticket holder for 40 years. My parents were class of '67 and '68 and I grew up on the campus. Go Kingsmen!!!

CalLuforLife,

Why does CLU's new stadium need more temp bleachers? For opponents, or to provide more seats for the Kingsmen's ballooning numbers of supporters? UR's stands were, in days past, mostly required for  local high schools' large crowds.

Will Darity, La Verne's longtime sports information director, died of a heart attack. He was only 43.

Will was a really great guy. What a loss for ULV. My sincere condolences.

Hemi,

I do not know if the UR offense can turn it around. Against PLU they did not get a first down until the middle of the second quarter. When Bridgeford was in they went empty sets. When Samson was in they went to single back sets. If they go with Bridgeford next week it takes away the ability to run zone read,  he is not a runner and that is why I think they went Samson to start the season. So I do not know what they will do, but my guess is Bridgeford first Samson second at this point.

In summary the game was 14-0 in the fourth, one can not leave the defense with a dozen short fields to defend. I would be elated to still be in the game 14-0 in the fourth when the offense had only been inside the 50 twice. Then the offense gives up 6. If the defense can defend the post (same play MHB had success, set up or made three scores) they will be nails going forward. The real question is not the qb's it is the O line, I heard one tackle was hurt, but others have to step up. The O line has to get better real soon or it does not matter who is the QB or what plays are called. It does not matter how good the defense is getting.

My guess would be for visiting fans mostly. We had PLU fans sitting on the home side due to the construction and that's not real kosher. I will say that I attended the CLU/Linfield game on Saturday and it's whole different vibe there. A ton more fans in attendance and you could just feel the energy throughout the campus. I wish Cal Lu games were more like that.

Condolences.
A great, great win for the program and then a shocking damper.

You have to understand that besides Linfield football, the only other thing to do in McMinnville is to sit on your front porch on a hot summer day and watch the tar bubble in the street.

True.  Bluenote and I met the next day on Davis Street and watched a bubbler for a solid hour.
